  • "You got to have smelt a lot of mule manure before you can sing like a hillbilly."

    - Hank Williams Sr

  • This is the greatest county and western song of all time. Absolute perfection.

  • Hank, thank you! List to him "coo".

Oh, if he'd only lived a long life! He gave us so much in

such a short time. He died 60 years ago today at 29.

He was compassionate and cared about those without work,

    poor and lonely.

  • I'm going in three times, but I'm only coming up twice...

  • 18 people disliked this? WOW 18 people dont know real music!

  • Hank Williams was,is,and always will be the BEST singer in country music history.

  • Sounds like the song Sandy sang on spongebob.

  • @polopstereo

    We feel sorry for you.

  • @polopstereo haha it does :) great song hank, i love ya

  • great music !!!

  • why isn't this in fallout

  • @sarabower1 This IS country music.

  • @shallowford I have to agree with you, this is good country. they just don't make country music like they use too..

  • @shallowford and his grandson

  • 17 folks are longone

  • I hate modern country music, but love this old stuff.

  • @PumpkinPuffer Check out his grandson. Best modern country singer.

  • I love Hank Williams Sr

  • I'm going down in it 3 times and Lord I'm only comin up twice. Class.

  • all round best artist of 20th century... and 21st - and thats comin from a 16 yr old!!!

  • i hate country but i dig this song

  • great song

  • Happy birthday Hank!

  • if you love hank sr then you should listen to his grandson hank 3 he sounds almost exactly like him and also looks like him, it skipped a generation.

  • @sharon32652 his looks did but Sr.'s son is just as good as he is

  • who would ever dislike hank

  • This song expresses a place I've been to many times--"da blues in da night"

  • I read a review , believe it was from The Rolling stone Magazine who had Hank rated as one of the top 100 singers of all time. The article went on to say while many may find this strange to rate hank so high, Hank had such a pure voice it could cut through wood. After listing to this song I can see what they mean. What a beautiful unvarnished voice.

  • why can't music be like this now days

  • Pure. Music with dignity. You couldn't have paid this man a cent to sing a song about something he didn't yearn for in his heart and live through. No auto tune, no special effects, no big time producer on a huge budget, no million dollar music video, chances are some of these tracks were done in one take, and there's not a single mistake nor flaw found.

Real music made by a real man. No modern day corporate "cowboy" copycat, they don't get the saying "your born original, don't die a copy".

  • Although Hank Sr.passed away before I was even born,My dad kept his albums on the record player and the songs on his lips.Somehow I can't imagine growing up without Hank and Ernest and,and,and....

  • If you play this on a jukebox it will save you from fights/make friends in most midwestern bars.

  • at 2:03 is that ernest tubb????

  • Love the big wide front door. You could carry a Super Jumbo 200 and a suit case and not bang anything

  • God bless hank. may he rest in peace

  • Hank had the best voice i have ever heard. Man that yodel to Long Gone Lonesome Blues WOW.

  • george jones PLEASE HANK IS THE BEST THAT EVERY WAS Thomas HAVERSTOCK

  • Great song! They defenitely modelled the Texas song on Spongebob off of this!

  • @RingoGeorgeJohnPaul2 definitely! It's almost exact in the beginning! I love Hank and Texas.

  • this is real country im the only person that will play hank sr in my garage both doors open whit the speakers all the way up

  • chilling...

  • Welcome to country!

  • Well, if you ever need to go out, Hank told ye how to do it. Just find that river as cold as ice. Much like the woman's heart that'll drive ye to it.

  • I think Rufus Payne's ghost is carrying the rhythm in this song. That steady swing beat and subtle guitar accompany the beautiful swooning of the student come master.

  • Say what you will Hank was a genius

  • Any aspiring songwriter should study this man. His songs have everything down - the lyrics, story, hooks, melody, arrangement. Wish there was more actual video footage of him.

  • @fieldfullofthistles Bob Dylan studied him

  • George Jones... give hank his props but Mr Jones is #1...

  • @celestinoesquibel no,hank is an will always be the best country singer there ever was and will be

  • @kalob35 I'm only 38 years old and I agree with you 100% on that !!!

  • @celestinoesquibel

jones was good but hank is the best ask mr jones himself

  • This really takes the cake. :)

  • that cop in the video was Bull Conner best cop that ever lived, he had it all right and no one listened now look at the shit you are all in.

  • I love this man. ♥

  • MAKES ME REMEMBER MY GRANDPA AWESOME

  • lol tell me this guy didnt kik azz best song writer ever country or anything else r i p hank we still love you

  • Best Hank tune, ever! Had the pleasure to go to Hank's museum in Montgomery, AL a few years back. Sat in Caddy he died in. Saw lots of hand written letters (chicken scratch with pencil) to Audrey, his mom and even to infant Jr. Was cool how simple and real he wrote. Eerie part was that he died at 28 but looked 58 in lots of the pics. $7 was bit pricey (it's a tiny museum), but paid it. Was only one there on a Saturday so I bribed them with an extra 10 to sit in the Caddy. Didn't allow pictures!

  • Just think how about the music that would have been made if him and Johnny Horton wouldnt have passed away at such a young age.

  • love this song!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cant stand these poeple that say ohh saw this on family guy or a vidio game.dont you idiots know this has been around hitting the charts poeple loving it all around the world befor that crap was even around

  • better singer song writer then lennon anyone

  • Thank God for all you folks that still post and listen to this old music. It was young once & still is, if you bellieve.

  • real country music

  • Really an amazing musician! Such a tragedy that he was gone so soon.

  • Listen to Hank Williams, Jimmy Rogers, and to this day, even Leon Redbone wail some of these greats. What a legacy to leave!

  • greatest blues man ever sorry he left this world so soon amagine the potential

  • The great Hank Williams, it doesn't get any better than this.

  • HES THE BEST!!!

  • I cant explain how much I wanted to meet Hank Williams....

  • @paleboy1231 i cant explain how much i woulda loved 2 have a beer with him and jam with him

  • @all Everyone that posted about Hank hit the nail on the head. Damn, y`all are smart, sophisticatedand have good taste !!!!

  • Hank Sr. is the greatest. It's amazing how he had so much creativity in such a short career.

  • I don't understand how anyone could dislike this... They must be people who have never felt the love of a women, the burn of whiskey, or felt the strings of a good ol' folk insturment.

  • well this man and his son was who i was named for,,,, and if you didn't catch that my name is HANK... NOT HENRY

  • @owen42081 And not owen?

  • What's amazing is how many songs he wrote that we not recorded. He the oldest looking boy in his twenties I've ever seen. He was the original self destruction, before Hendrix, Morrison or Joplin. Sad!

  • @trappchevrolet

Johnny Cash wasn't far behind at all though ;)

  • this song is beyond everything. simply amazing

  • Not only the greatest country singer/songwriter ever, but one of the greatest of any kind of music. His influence on country, blues and rock & roll artists is unequaled.

One of the very few in the Rock & Roll, Country Music, and Songwriters Halls of Fame. And he died well before reaching his peak...much like Buddy Holly.

  • greetings from peru, I just wanna say Hank Sr. is the greatest

  • THUMBS UP FOR HANK WILLIAMS SR.

  • 15 people are long gone and blue.

  • him with Ernest Tubb @2:04

  • No one can wail the way Hank did! Love it! Thanks for posting! ;)

  • HAPPY NEW YEARS 2011

  • God Bless and Merry Christmas, Mr. Williams

  • Yup ,

Wish I was born some 30 years earlier in that respect ;-) by the time I got delivered two of the most iconic C&W folks had already crossed the other side , Patsy Cline and Hank Williams Sr. Happy to see they're kept alive this way , one might hope folks start to get back to the "roots" sometime .

    regards from snowy Belgium

  • Hank is rollin in his grave about the sad shape country music is in today

  • My very favorite Hank tune--thanks for posting. His yodeling on this tune sounds just like a dobro guitar! And as on most of Hank's records, some fine steel playing by Don Helms.

  • MR. WILLIAMS DRANK BEER - I MUST NOT WATCH OR LISTEN TO SOMEONE WHO DRANK ALCOHOL!

THUS, I MUST LEAVE THIS VIDEO AND FIND A GOOD SONG BY REV. GEORGE JONES, A FINE UPSTANDING, NON-DRINKING SORT!

I AM GLAD HANK, JR. DID NOT DRINK ALCOHOL, LIKE HIS POOR DAD DID, MAYBE I SHALL LISTEN TO "WATER BENT AND HEAVEN BOUND" - YES, THAT IS WHAT I SHALL DO!

    ROFL!

  • @jehovahuponyou i dont get it hank jr drank and did drugs so did george jones

  • @BeardofNorris They're trying to be funny.

  • thank you for this!

  • it dont get any better than this!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! :)

  • I listened to Jr. first and then Sr. Both good versions but I'm old school. So many of his(Sr's) songs were just gut-wrenching broken heart moments of his life put to music. This song was used in the baseball film "Long Gone" with William Peterson and Virginia Madsen ( Miss Dixie Lee Boxx!)

  • This song actually wasn't written by Hank Sr.

  • @buminacan14 alot of songs by artists arent written by them they are written by other people and the artist sings it their way thats why there are mulriple songs in country that are the same as a song in RnB and/or pop

  • do you think that policeman knew how close to GREATNESS he really was..

  • Absolutely Amazing...he had such a presence about him.

  • This man is not just a Genius.. he is THE GENIUS.. anyone who sings country bases their experience of of this man... and respectfully.. they should

  • first time hank williams listener....love it.

  • Dang! Best Yoddler of his time.

  • if this isn't raw then somebody tell me what raw is....the feeling

  • How can anyone not love Hank's music ??? Simply the best and this is one of his best.

  • CLASSIC....

  • Hank Williams Senior, enough said. There will never be another like him.

  • Anyone know any info about the home video here? Where is he at in some of these shots, like that house?? thanks, Kyle

  • @Kyle1084 He had a house on Franklin Rd. in Nashville and another house near Demonbreun St. and 16th Ave. which was a Hank Tourist site back in the 80's (I got to go through it in '86 or so) but I think its been either torn down now or was sold - not sure. The home vids appear to have been at the Franklin Road home.

  • Hank was the greatest country C.

  • Hank, Kitty and Patsy ----- The best country singers of all time

  • elvis was a good singer BUT HANK IS A GENIUS A GREAT SINGER SONGWRITER THOMAS HAVERSTOCK

  • @asktunes They don't know what they're missing haha

  • This is where great country orginated. Ur a legend Hank Sr.

  • This song inspired Bruce Springsteen's song The River.

  • My candle burns at both ends; It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends It gives a lovely light! That poem describes Hank's career perfectly to me, he was the best that ever lived ... he just couldn't stay so long.

  • when i was 30 my grand mother died i found her 8 track player and i found hank 20 min later i was hooked and crying my ass off and that was in 1975

  • I remember hearin' this song the first time and right away I was thinkin' that this fella has some real crappy luck.Being older now and gettin older everyday makes me realize that this fella definately had an incredible insight on how a woman can rip a man in pieces

  • the poor white mans blues.....

  • Hang is still the best in m childhood. My daddy loves him well...

  • Name all the great country singers/writers...and I mean ALL OF THEM. Then put them in line behind this man 'cause he is the greatest that ever lived my friends.

  • @basenjib123 if that aint true i dont wanna know what is

  • @basenjib123 .. I deff. agree to that HE IS THE BEST!, came up listening to Hank Williams Sr. each time i'd be at my grandparents house,I think Hank and Johnny Cash are still the only country singers my grandfather listens to today

  • @basenjib123 all in line for the river!

  • i wanna go home to Texas

  • @BoomBoxJakey Come on plenty of room

  • This is great great great music=) why cant anybody make this kind of music today=(

  • hank never gets old

  • Where did you get all of this video footage of hank? This is my favorite video on youtube because of the video. Although my favorite song is Lost Highway, but this is also a great song don't get me wrong.

  • My first record I bought was Hank Sr and I still love his music 60 years later. Love ya Hank.

  • this is a great song by one of the greatest singers to ever live

  • Im 19 and Hank is probably the greatest music figure to ever live.

  • I was so sick of today's music rap and all and really feeling down and this older man, a total stranger looked at me and said Hank Williams Sr. To be born again thorugh music

  • @hsad1234 Rap is what it is. Music is art and is only representave of the people and the times they live in.

  • I play this song at most every gig I do because it never fails to move me & hit me right through the heart. Such a gem from a god among men. No country artist of any era will ever touch him. Here's to you Hiram!

  • @jamesabilly If you play and sing this song congratuations. You play and sing well. I listened to this and I think it would be incrediably hard to sing and hit any of the notes.

  • Gosh dang this sure is good music. Grew up listen'n and learn'n to play hank sr. ; Lefty; and Merle and Jones.

  • the video is bone chilling he will always be the god of country music

  • Best song Hank did in my opinion, rip Hank we loved your music and still do.

  • "I'm going down in it three times, but Lord I'm only coming up twice."

I love it. Been there before, dude. Nothing better than Hank when you're brokenhearted. Mealy-mouthed, feel-good bullcrap will only make you more depressed.

  • one of the greatest hank williams songs :)

  • hank williams sr. is the greatest singer of all time

  • What can one say that hasn't been said already! He's still the greatest country singer of them all. Viva Hank

  • They say this guy was the greatest american songwriter since stephen foster. I believe it.

  • Hank Williams makes me want to drink more then anyother artist

  • Yep

  • i love this song! Hank was the man

  • His woman scene spelled it all. No disrepect for Hank Jr. His momma was an opportunist. As a Southern boy and the fact she has passed I will say more ill will of her.

  • i grew up listenening to hank and his boy me and him have a few things in common ilove any damn hank song

  • Hank was a cool cat.

  • Hank III is awesome too!!

  • The greatest of them all. When it comes to ranking the greats of country music, there's Hank...then there's everyone else.

  • Silly suit and stetson? Ignorance is the night of the mind, void of the moon and stars.

Hank will always be remembered as one of the all time greats of country.

  • Love hank, classic song. Hank wrote about real things you feel in your soul.

  • My dad will be 81 on the 21st of this month,God willing.,..and he's not fieeling so good now but when it comes to Hank Sr he still gets a twinkle in his eye.

  • aaww this song is so cute!! i love it, it makes me laugh

  • I think if he were alive to see what's become of country music, he'd rather be dead.

  • @yermomsboxx exactly. His grandson is about all that's left. Willie is still around and Shooter Jennings is teetering on being a sellout. RIP Hank Sr. Johnny and waylon

  • @yermomsboxx hey man i couldnt have said it better!!!!

  • @yermomsboxx Amen

  • hanks awesome, his music will live on forever

  • Hank was the greatest that ever lived. He had alot of problems some of his own doing and some not, and he probably died early because of them. Hank was the best ever despite his flaws!

  • You can take those modern day frosted haired , manicured finger nailed , earring wearing , sleeveless t-shirted Nashville cookie cutter wanna be country music artists and put them where they belong , on the pop rock charts . THIS IS , AND WILL ALWAYS BE , WHAT COUNTRY MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT !

Now that Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash are with Hank Sr. , dead and gone , there is NO such thing as country music anymore .

  • @Phillipm39 Amen to that brother

  • what is jsut so sad is that if he were just getting started today he would fail as an artist.... we have all lost our way with music.... rip hank you represent a better time for us all
