  • Excellent job!

  • my name is aodh irish 4 hugh

  • The filipinos are the irish of asia.

  • actually now it sounds dublin /american..

  • woah ur accent when you're speaking english sounds Northern irish/american...probably wrong tho. Nice irish btw

  • children of lir is a beautiful story

  • dude you are asian looking

  • That was a great reading! The Children of Lir is one of my favourites. My Irish Dance teacher had us perform it as a dance drama numerous times here in Canada. I've heard the version of Lir being a king as well but I have to agree I like the idea of them being gods instead :) Great Job and I look forward to your next post!

  • OMG im irish and i cant say dat dat was really gud

  • Have you read any of the American legends? Some of them are pretty good. I suggest checking them out. The other day, my civics teacher gave us a half-hour to forty-five minute lecture about Ireland. I hope your holiday goes well.

  • Would the lake not be called what ever town your were in then lake? or The Lough maybe

  • Who me? Why? Care to elaborate a bit, maybe try add some constructive criticism?

  • Great story man, awesome narrator voice.

  • Thanking you :-)

  • i couldnt find the comment damit

  • which comment would that be?

  • That was a good story.

  • Cheers dude

  • I got all pissed today because people were being so racist against irish today (and they especially were doing it when i was around because my heritage is irish). One idiot said "St. Patricks day is so stupid, its just an excuse for those stupid drunkies to go out to the bar just because its a holiday all about them." He was mexican so I said back to him "Dude shut the !@#$ up and climb the border back to the mudhole where you belong." After that everyone was like "EEEEEEE" and he finally stoped

  • To be fair though, there are a lot of people who do just use it as an excuse to drink... like with many special dates unfortunately the meaning has been lost by many... example, easter eggs? and Christmas becoming more about gifts and such.

Plus I think people without Irish heritage just find it odd/confusing how the world seems to celebrate St Patricks Day, but only their country celebrates their national day

  • Ya some do, but he was using it in a racist stereotypical way, and he was doing crap like that all day. It would be like making fun of an british people saying all they ever do is drink tea. Also for the last thing you said, they're just jealous XD

  • Awesome! Looking forward to kick your ass again on April 3. Take care, your loving friend, Gerry.

  • Again? I've been training my friend, I shall be the one doing the ass kicking this year, haha

  • fuckin korean

    ching chong ching STFU

  • nope not Korean, and the rest would be more if you were trying to insult a chinese person, are you trying to be clever or something?

  • i dont give 2 shits

  • Yet you gave enough shits to take the time to leave 2 comments, cheers

  • The only Irish I know would be Sionnach Aboo. At least, I think it's Irish.

  • Sceal capal means story horse in irish

  • where did the horse come from?

  • maybe it's the spelling, but i can't make that out, sorry

  • Yeah, it might not even be Irish. Probably Latin or something.

  • Sionnach is Irish for Fox and "Abú" is an Irish word which is similar to hooray.

  • Oh, well it's on my family crest. Glad to finally know what it means.

  • damn leprechauns they keep chasing me away from O"lacys pub here...May the "good" light always be at your back you tubers!!

  • haha, those leprechauns can be bloody annoying, getting in the way, haha

  • happy st pats

  • Cheers Kwai.

Does anything happen in London for this? Surely there's some Irish community there?

  • yeah. the london mayor controversially cut the budget this year by half though. There's a little party in Trafalgar square.

  • im gonna chase leprechauns with this ocasion!

    anyway..nice vid...the story was awesome

ohhhh...i didnt watched in HQ..so im waitin 4 your leprechaun :P:D

  • He's on his way be on the look out ;-)

  • ok...and what he'll do to me???

give me his pot of gold???

or give me the PC versions from GH???:D

  • Just wondering.... do you speak English most of the time or mostly Irish?

I am guessing your in NORTHERN IRELAND where they speak IRISH more than English...?

  • i think your getting mixed up, in northern ireland we speak english all the time. in the south they speak irish and english.

  • ohhh... TOP' O THE MORNIN' to ya hehehe I cant help it.... Its ST. Pattys day :P

What is south Ireland I just know them by

REPUBLIC of IRELAND and Northern Ireland

  • the south of ireland is the republic of ireland

  • It's St. Paddy not St. Patty. Nice video, Mokong.

  • haha, cheers dude... did ye have a good day up there in Belfast?

  • np. I didn't do anything as I go to Lanzarote on thursday morning and I'm still packing/finishing uni work...but uh, stupid people rioted so the police crawled the city.

  • Tensions up a bit again after the last weeks I suppose, bloody shame, yeah forgot you were going to Lanzarote, have a good holiday dude... what hotel you staying in... let me know how it was, i'm a Travel Agent so its good to get feedback on hotels from people, haha

  • Yeah people were drunk and excited and don't know how to control themselves. I'll PM you the hotel info.

  • Nah, Irish wouldn't be widely used by most. Generally, the West of Ireland is known for communities where Irish is spoken everyday.. places like Connemara

  • Beanachtai Na Feile Padraig From N.Y.C

  • Cheers... I assume NYC had a good celebration as normal

  • you couldnt be more right but I wasnt there, Thats the second parade I missed :( but not to worry I celabrated later with a few friends of mine.

  • i'm sure of it. but there isn't much were i live. because i'm not living in a big city or anything like that (i'm actually living on the place were you can say that our Saint Patric took his last stand to bring Christianity to norway). but i'm sure sombody celebrates this day here in norway too.

  • Great video man : )

     Happy Paddy's Day man

  • Cheers mate, hope you had a good day too

  • Nice video mate and great choice of footage to go with the story.

    Happy Saint Patrick's Day Franklin.

  • Cheers dude... by the way I got another MofM vid for ya... but will be awhile before I upload it, cuz it's also a 2nd part to a collab vid which is going up on another channel... should be before March ends anyway ;-)

  • I would never speak Irish in a vid without putting Subs so never worry... of course that also means I might only do a few such vids cuz adding subs to a whole video takes butt loads of time, haha

  • believe me mokz i feel asleep haha (joke only).

    happy st. patricks day mokz.

cool story and hey your a good story teller ah? 5*****

  • If only you know how many takes it took me before I settled with that recording, haha... maybe took me an hour or more constantly repeating it, haha

  • haha and i press the HQ thing, coz im affraid of the leprechaun..LOL.

hey dude i just noticed this, dont you think that the komikero virus is "ebriwer naw?" haha. rock on (mixed with headbangin' mode ala mokong).

  • haha, don't worry about the K-Virus.. I've got a video planned but prolly won't get round to it till the weekend

  • dope vid man cant wait to see your experience!

  • I'll try get it to ya as soon as I can ;-)

  • awesome!

  • Cheers

  • I've always loved that story, have such vivid memories of reading it through Irish in about 3rd class. Was really nice to hear it again.

  • Last time I read it or heard it was probably round 3rd class also

  • happy shamrock day frank.. :)

I would love to read that ancient Irish book...

oooops.. that was nice intro... That means you speak 4 + language

  • 4? No only 2 languages... English and Irish.... unfortunately no Tagalog... well I know a few words and such... can sing a few songs... but don't know what they mean :-P

  • Whooops... I thought you know like at least 2 other regional languages in the Philippines.

But it is good you can speak Irish..one of the oldest Goidelic languages... whew i think this language has similarities with latin and greek.. partly you can understand those other languages right?

  • Great story! Nice footage to go with it too!

  • Cheers dude, knew you'd like the swans.. help sooth that anger, haha

  • That was a truly compelling story, Franklin. Nice to learn a little something about Irish culture on this St. Patrick's Day.

Love you put this story to your footage of the lake. Very soothing.

  • Well it was only natural to use the lake footage, I recorded it back in December, waiting for this event, haha

  • Coooool

    Happy St. Patrick's Day!

And thanks for helping me out with the whole YOU-Tube It!

  • No problem dude... you can high five me on April 3rd ;-)

  • hmm...is cuchulainn in irish mythology? that name sounds gaelic...

wahahaha, can u tell im all for learning new cultures? HA! ^^

    -TheOJ

  • CúChulainn is Irish... my fav Irish Hero (will actually be my next story when I get round to it... would have done it here but had the footage of the swans ready).

CúChulainn would have been like the Irish version of Hercules, half man-half god. He was originally born Sentanta, but killed the guard dog of the leader Chulain and said he'd take the dogs place, CúChulainn means "The Hound of Chulainn"

  • wooow.

hehe Happy St. Pat's day to you too frank!!!

we'll miss you heaps in the gamee!!!

  • You'll do fine without me, just don't let Michael and Andrew run away with the votes, haha

  • This was terrific! Thank you so much for the Gaelic and for the tale. If you do more like this in the future, would you consider doing something about Fionn mac Cumhaill, such as him tasting the salmon of knowledge, or maybe the Cattle Raid of Cooley! Now that would be a video of epic inventiveness!

  • Fionn has many stories alright.. my fav of his was to do with teh creation of the Giants Causeway... I hope to go up there one day and I will make that video

  • Wow that was a wonderful story. I love that lake I would go there often and watch the swans. Cool Story

  • I like to stop at it for a few mins whenever I'm driving past on the way to or home from Cork if I ever have to go down, it's a relaxing place

  • I love mythology. :)

This story is something I would've wanted my Mom to read to me when I was a child.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! I'm going to go wear my leprechaun costume all day on the 17th. ;-)

  • Haha, you don't have to go that far... a bit of green would do fine

  • Aww.. it's wouldn't be as much fun. Besides, I'm staying home all day anyway. :)

  • Beautiful and interesting mix of ancient Irish lore and Christianity. You should teach us Gaelic! : )

  • Trust me if I tried to teach Irish, you wouldn't learn much ;-)

  • This Irish mythology got me so curious.

I'm going to look more into the rich legends of Ireland after this.

Do some old folk still believe in leprechaums, banshees, elves and the like until now?

Do you also have dragons in your mythology? Cause I love dragons.

Forgive me, Franklin. You have awakened the fantasy-loving child in me.

You know what, no need to answer all that. I'll just research on it.

    Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

    One question though.

Why do people wear GREEN on that day?

  • Dude, come April 3, I can answer anything for ya... maybe even some reading material ;-)

Somewould still believe in such creatures... Banshee is one of my favs cuz she's often misunderstood, some think she's evil cuz she cries before someone dies, but she is actually just mourning their death... it's said she only mourns for decendants of the "5 great Irish families" which I am (my grandmother was an O'Brien)

  • Green is cuz it's our national colour...Irelands nickname is "The Emerald Isle".... there's no place greener than Ireland, we got 40 shades of it we do, haha

Oh and I'm sure our legends/myths do contain a dragon or two...

    ;-)

  • ok, so how come whenever someone aint wearing green on that day, they get pinched? now thats juz mean...lol

    -TheOJ

  • I don't know about that... I think it was invented in America

  • Oh freak!! ur an o'brien!!

lol, i like banshees...the first i think of when i hear that word is that superhero from the x-men!! haha

    -TheOJ ^^

  • Well my grandmother on my fathers side was O'Brien... I'm actually Hughes... which filipinos never pronounce right, more of a welsh name but it's become an Irish name over time... the Irish translation for Hughes would be "ó Aodh" like Aodh in this story... the ó would me "of or from". There's some history for you

  • Cool gaelic speaking, Franklin. :-)

I have this fondness for mythology and I really appreciated the folklore of Lir's children. I felt like a little boy listening to a bedtime story again.

900 years living as a swan, only to wither & die in the end? Not the happy ending I was expecting.

Great to know the origin of Saint Patrick's day. Though we don't celebrate it in the Philippines, I'm very familiar with it because of my vacations in North America.

Thanks for this video, Franklin! :-)

  • Well not all stories have a happy ending unfortunately. Actually now that I think of it, I did forget at the end that the vision the monk saw in the sky of the children being happy was because they were then reunited with their father and mother...

But the story for the Children of Lir is known as "the 2nd of the three sorrows of Irish Storytelling"

The other two sorrows I'm not as familiar with, but they are in the book I showed, so I will have to read up, haha.

  • i like the scenes here very realxing! and yeah thats cool to hear you speak gaelic

  • haha, yeah the lake stuff looks like something that would fit into one of your "art type" vids (as I call them) like "Rewind"

  • woot!! FIRST!! wahahahahaha

very interesting hearing you speak in gaelic and i always love a great story especially mythologies!! ^^

    -TheOJ

  • Cheers OJ, good stories are awesome, Irish mythology and legend is full of them.. I wanna try do more of these in the future ;-)
