  • FUCK OFF STUPID KOREAN BITCH!

  • Some information here is partially erroneous IMHO. Double clutching the whole idea is NOT to rev match but to spin the Gearbox up so the syncro rings need to work less under heavy gear changes in competition. As for the so called jerky motion from single clutch application @ 6.23 You NEVER take your foot completely off the throttle but roll off the revs as you re-engage the clutch gradually, no match no jerk. Knowing your vehicle helps

  • I love the supercharger sound!

  • the clutch is there for a reason. rev matching to often will rune your syncros. downshifting is hell on your clutch plate brake pads are easier and cheaper the change then a clutch plate. so i do not do these driving my truck and i put 200,000 miles on my clutch before i had to change it mostly due to the flywheel going bad.

  • does this mini have a clutch delay valve?

  • thank you so much!! The hard launch part and the link to mod. launch helped me a LOT!

  • Great video...thanks.

  • Do yhu HAVE to downshift wen yhu double clutch?

  • he shift´s fast

  • So wait, the heel & toe goes both ways. lol.

  • do you know what years they started making synchronizers for vehicles?

  • @Foursterrr 80s

  • Is it ok to use rev match in everyday driving? It doesn't affect the car driveline? Thank you very much!

  • thank you so much

  • is it supercharged? i thought i heard it when you did the launch

  • @ChiTownBullzzz21 2005 Mini Cooper S 7:1.6L 1600CC L4 FI Supercharged stock. \m/ good ear.

  • @ChiTownBullzzz21 Yeah the cooper S is supercharged, guess what the S stands for :P

  • This guy really should make a class about this..

  • Obviously clutch drops puts a lot of stress and wear on the clutch and drivetrain as well. Maybe the person meant that whatever technique you're using to launch hard can damage the trans of a higher powered car? Either way, my point is that you can launch any car hard and to say that "you shouldn't do that on high horsepower cars because you'll ruin the transmission" is ridiculous and false.

  • Whoever told you that launching hard in a high horsepower car damages the transmission is an idiot. You can launch hard in ANY car, but the technique will be different. You can also "ruin the transmission" launching hard in ANY car. For example, when I launch my Prelude hard, I slip the shit out of the clutch, this jack rabbit leaps the car out of the hole, but obviously puts more wear on the clutch than normal starts. When I launch my STi, I just drop the clutch and let the AWD sort it out.

  • hey man, vids are helpful thanks! i recently bought a 93 f250 (diesel) na, i usualy shift at 1500 and sometimes its smooth sometimes its kind of jerky, before i watched your vids i used to just let of throttle clutch shift then let off clutch and give throttle (not simutaneously) so i think my old bad way of shifting may be the reason why sometimes i cant shift smoothly, but anyway i noticed when you let clutch off you only give a little bit of throttle and hold it (no 50/50) is that how itsdone

  • For some strange reason i like these videos, they're just interesting I suppose because i have a cressida that happily dies whenever I do anything mildly adventurous, like you know, the speed limit...

  • lol - its a mini :)

  • your wrong about double clutching its to stop the mainshaft and counter shaft not get them the same speed as the engine

  • @nuklhed074 he said to get the engine speed to match the speed of the transmission.. what did you hear?? O_o

  • it really annoys me when your stationary you have your foot on the brake, nothing wrong with that but use the handbrake

  • @LHB2311 you guys are gonna get rear ended.

  • @Spiegel420 nice one

  • Are you supposed to floor the gas when heel toeing?

  • @ramentasty8 Umh, no. The point of heel n toe is to brake while shifting down, mainly used in racing for obvious reasons. You slightly tap the gas and rev it just a little bit so the revs match the gear you're shifting down to.

  • a racing technique but also can be used for regular driving (or running from the cops) lol

  • Try doing it that fast with a diesel... That's what you call impossible :p

  • @MG2R I can shift that fast with my 4x4 97 Ram 3500, with my NV4500. Not that hard.

  • @acb4thelksqt I'm driving a Focus 1.8TDI and that engine is so slow that it takes about 2-3 seconds to drop to the right RPM -_-

  • @MG2R drop or climb*

  • i am trying to learn how to drive stick. do you have to do this while down shifting in normal conditions or is this only for racing. also why do you have to heel to toe cant you just down shit normally? and how do you know when you have to heel to toe is it when the car reaches a certain rpm? what happens if i dont heel to toe?

  • @dominicancheif117 the only one you really need for ordinary driving is rev matching the other 2 are mainly just for racing but they can help to make your driving smoother if you want to learn them. Heel toe downshifting is used for racing so that they can quickly change into a lower gear right before they get to a corner so they have the extra power as soon as they exit the corner to get back up to speed and also so they don't have to change while they are making the turn

  • hi can you double clutch going up a gear

    thanks

  • @Matek0012 i dont think theres a point of double clutching when going up because the point of this is when you shift down..engine power is still high..something like that..

  • how long has it been since your last stall?

  • im lazy so i always do the single clutch...

  • NOOB QUESTION: whats the point of double clutching ?

  • @ThatsTheAznWay i think its a way to maintain high engine power for easier exit..its done when you enter a corner..shift down but you rev the engine to match your speed then when you exit..you still have high engine power..im no sure though..but thats the idea behind it :)

  • @ThatsTheAznWay he explained it... some (older cars) dont have syncro rings on the tranny gears, so u need to revmatch to be able to downshift, so thats why u need doubleclutch... or single clutching if ur lazy :P

  • Dude, use the clutch to adjust the amount of power that is being delivered from your reved engine to the wheels. If approaching a turn, disengage (clutch down), place in lower - turn exit gear - and treacle the power from the high torque lower gear to the wheels by partially lifting the clutch when needed.

That's why they placed the clutch disks there in the first place. It also saves your gearbox.

  • Practiced with Seat Leon 2002...learned most of the techniques....but fucked the gearbox up with heel and toe; that shit is not easy. I tried doing it like you, heel on the brakes and toe on the gas, but it comes more natural doing it vice-versa in my car.

Thanks for showing us, Master Yoda.

  • Is it me or does the passenger have really big feet?

  • @spokanedaddy HAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Just a slight tip, try not to go through all the gears, it's really unnecessary and uses up a lot of fuel. Say you want to reach 30 mph, don't go through all the gears up to the desired one. Instead: launch with first gear for a few metres, go into second gear and accelerate quite hard but steady to 30 mph and put it on the highest gear possible for that speed, lets say 4th/5th. Also do the same if you want to reach 50, 1st -> 2nd -> 3rd -> highest gear.

  • yes older transmissions didn't have syncros but the purpose for a double clutch is to not upset your suspension or line in a corner when GP/road racing

  • the driver is what? 13 years old?

  • @MexEvoIX

    LOOL

  • wow you r an idiot

  • how much do i have to rev when going into the next lower gear?

  • @jdmguy11 it depends on your gear ratios, roughly 1000 rpms on short gears, a couple thousand rpms on longer gears probably. My car is from 2000 in 4th to 3000 in 3rd, but would be a bit more at higher rpms.

  • ADVANCED DRIVING...... in a Mini.... this is the cancer killing youtube

  • you could uh well you could spin out

  • Your passenger has really big feet :P

  • so, double clutching is useless for newer cars? hah. fast and the furious lied to me,

  • @wrxFTWdey stfu beeetch

  • woah woah woah, clutches aren't more than tires. haha clutches are like 500-600. tires are 250 each for me... i'd rather burn clutch rather than ruin a transmission!

  • @wrxFTWdey damn wrong channel....

  • dude, when i do that in my car, the transmission gets destroyed and a lot of pressure is put on my axles. haha.

i have to let my clutch slip cuz my symmetrical AWD.

  • @wrxFTWdey cause youuuu suck haha

  • I drive mostly automatic and tried learning to drive a manual not too long ago. Heel and toeing was almost impossible for me. You made it look so simple.

  • @MultiChill13 Your problem might be that you have cerebral palsy

  • "A clutch is more expensive than tires" wut?

  • can you make a video for cars with high performence, a fast start for cars with high performce and drifting how do you that?

  • Comment removed

  • which is better car M or A

  • Comment removed

  • Oh wow that's cool! Before, I would just downshift without rev matching, and my car would jump. I can see that this is a lot better than what I'm doing. Thanks for the tutorial!

  • HOLY FUCK , things are bad when there are yanks showing other yanks how to drive ,a stick shift as they call them ,what next .... teaching them left from right :(

  • @kevrs2 He isn't american. He's Filipino

  • @o2fst4uo "He isn't american. He's Filipino"

    rofl are you dumb

  • @o2fst4uo hes filipino ...THATS WORSE HAHAHA !

  • Dude, double clutching endlessly will ultimately damage something in your car, could be a variety thing. i.e gears, clutch blah blah

  • @Knottyboyayb lol if you shift with the wrong revs you will damage your gears because it will grind. you need a lot of experience with cars before you start to use double clutching.

  • can a stick shift car be converted to automatic car ? please reply

  • @anyiman1 anything is possible, but do you have the money?

  • @anyiman1 It can, with lots of money.

  • Yeah. Don't try this with corvettes. I've driven a lot a corvettes from the early 60's up to brand new and every launch is really nice... and the transmitions are over $15,000 so it's best not to mess them up.

  • 2:50 ....... i love it!

  • How in the hell can people rotate their ankle like that?!?

  • Another application for double clutch downshifting is when the car/gearbox is cold. My 21 year old Honda CRX was a bit balky during downshifts when cold even when new. It's even worse now!

  • I find that when downshifting with a double clutch, the gear lever goes into the next lower gear much easier. If the match is perfect, there's no resistance at all. I can downshift faster with a double clutch, especially at high rpm or when skipping gears, because of that. But maybe it's also because I don't feel bad about slamming the lever down a gear when double clutching. ;)

  • Also, double clutching, whether shifting up or down, although unnecessary in a modern car, will remove the burden of matching the gearbox input shaft and engine speeds from the synchronizers in the gearbox. The only benefit is longer gearbox synchronizer life. For most people, that benefit is outweighed by the hassle of double clutching. I only do it when downshifting at high rpm which creates a greater mismatch between gears (and more wear).

  • When you rev match, is it ok to over-rev just a little bit?

  • Hey, how do you park the car and leave it in gear. Doesnt it like torque out if i let out the clutch while its stationary to park?

  • @element509 you just park it and stop the car while its in the gear, when you're going the start the car you just hold down the clutch and start the car, if you dont hold down the clutch the car will like push itself, if you have a wall in front of your car, the car will just crash in the wall if you dont hold down the clutch ;)

  • @ibokarabulut Do I let the clutch go AFTER the car is turned off in 1st or whatever?

  • Double clutch...wats the point?

  • Theres no reason to ever do this.

  • i wanna practice the heel-toe as soon as i get a car :D

    well...

thats 5 more years to go XD

  • WTF at 3:42 Mini Tank!??!

  • @Bojanpzs1 That's the base to a basketball goal

  • "well its just a jerking motion!" bahahaha

  • I like your sweet Mini :P buhaha

  • Hey man, I really appreciate the video. I drive an auto 1993 Camry and planning on getting a 2001 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro that's a stick but the thing is... I can't always get the car started from a stop without it rocking back and forth.. Does that come with time or is there any specific way of doing it?

I'm sorry about all the people who are dumb and harassing you about this but for someone like me, I really appreciate your videos. Thank you :)

  • or instead of revving the balls off it in nutural going 30-35 to change to 3rd, why dont u just lift your clutch up to a dipped biteing point and slowly let it in and teh engine brake will slow it down

  • @boltonmonty because your engine is takign to long to engage with the gearbox and you will have clutch wear , i would rather use some cash on fuel than by a new clutch plate , your really shouldnt use 'engine braking' , you could buy a LOT more brake pads and shoes rather than clutch components

  • I don't get rev matching? Someone explain to me please without yelling

  • @link182ava44 The idea of rev matching is that when you depress the clutch the engine and transmission are seperated but you want them to be travling as close to the same speed as possible. Your transmission is travling at a speed proportional to your wheels, and your engine is spinning at whatever speed your tach reads. in order to mach revs, when you shift up, you let the engine speed fall and while you down shift you give the vehicle gas to raise engine speed before you shift.

  • is rev matching bad for a car?

  • @camcuber Nope -And he's basically right. Race car drivers use heal & toe entering turns at high speed without jolting the car when tires are at the limit of adhesion. It's not just about being in a lower gear while exiting a turn though -especially if it's a long sweeper or compound curve when you want to be on the gas and 'up on the cam' (or high in the torque curve) DURING the turn. It also 'saves' the synchros & is good 4 your transmission. (I'm1 of your subscribers Cam)

  • @1BK530 wow what a coincidence and thanks!

  • @camcuber No. its better for a car than not using any gas when you downshift, if your not rev matching already its going to be jerky. Rev match downshifting is how you should be downshifting.

  • Cool vid bro!

  • At what hp should you not hard launch like that?

  • buddy, calm down. he showed us how to double clutch, and he said afterwords u didnt have to do it. idiot.

  • Hey man, I've had my MT mazda3 for about 2.5 months now and it's my first stick. Thing is, every time I upshift while already moving I let go of the gas, clutch in, move into the next gear, take the clutch out to the engage point, and then the rest of the way. Do I just need to learn the appropriate RPMs at which I should be engaging the clutch (rev matching) and dump the clutch right as they're about to get to that point? I feel like I'm not doing it right..

  • Is this guy for real??????

You dont have to double clutch, In old race cars you had to but not now days. Go get a life and stop posting shit vids mate

  • can some one els explain the no no's for hard shifting a high hp car cause i did not understand one thing

  • Really great video, very informative. Love how show the split camera's! Been practicing heel-toe this past week and have been referencing this vid for help.

  • GREAT JOB, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.

  • you deserve a better car for those shifts

  • necesitas amigos.

  • 2:50 - 3:00 thats pretty fast shifting. Good work

  • In the Mini Cooper S, during hard acceleration, when you push in the clutch, the revs stay up in the power band longer than your average car. Mini coopers are sweet. Not particularly powerful, but it feels like your driving a race car. I haven't yet driven one of the newer turbocharged models, but I bet they have quite a bit more pep to them.

  • btw guys, This is all easier when your driving, it becomes habit.

  • woops almost ran over a chipmunk!!

  • so in my 01 eclipse i don't have to double clutch? just single clutch.

  • your car sounds mean

  • get a automatic put a shift kit in it and get a ratchet shifter.

  • I get why you'd want to properly heel-toe and perform rev matching during downshifts, but you have a modern car with a synchronized gearbox. Why would you ever need to double clutch?

  • @doglessliberal Less wear on the synchronizers.

  • @doglessliberal its so that you dont have a super jerky motion. Although modern cars are equipped with synchronizers, they are there mostly so that the transmission is ruined not for rider comfort. In this case, we double clutch and single clutch in order to prevent the jerky motion.

  • for the most part you will break traction before you ruin your tranny when takin of hard like that unless you have somethin wrong inside before hand your trans will be fine you might blow a driveline out but tranny would be fine

  • @s0ggyrice i have a question for single clutch rev match, about how much do you rev match? like 1000 rpms so from 2000 revved to 3000 before you left off the clutch or how much?

  • @2conRazor just give it ago, find the perfect amount of gas for your car

  • lol. Initial D!

  • you no alot about how to drive <<<<< sarcasm

  • @TheOggielad You know a lot about how to spell <<<<<Sarcasm

  • i keep doing burnout when im trying to start moving, howw do i stop this?

  • hey can you use the single clutch or w/e to shift up? like rev your motor higher to push it a little more? likeeee uhm, just not let of the gas? you know what im sayin? like, quick shift without lettin off the gas?

  • Chill out dudes..

I'm sure he's just double clutching for knowledge's sake..

I still have to double clutch in our Landcruiser coz the syncros have died :P

  • you also ned to double clutch with a double disk clutch, mccloud truck pulling/ sand drags clutch.

  • @redracer450r and by the way yes i know, yes i drive them

  • pal, your clutch and engine mounts are going to be fucked driving like that, you seem like a spack as well

  • You are going to destroy your clutch slamming into 1st gear like that. I drove a stick for many years and could pull off from a standstill at a high rate of acceleration without slamming into first gear.

  • Wat the fuck are you on about you tool!! You dont have a notion wat double clutching is!!haha

  • @williamharrigan Yes he does. You're the idiot.

  • I just wasted 3 minutes of my life

  • there is absolutely no reason to double clutch in a modern car.

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk Double clutching will save some wear on your synchros compared to single clutch rev matching.

From professional racing driver Gary Sheehan:

    Is double-clutching necessary? No.

Can double-clutching eliminate gear clash due to sychros wearing out before you are ready to get rid of your car? Yes.

  • @sigigle if a person drives in a way that damages his synchronizers, he should not drive a manual.

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk well I guess you should start to double clutch then aye? ;)

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk There is a point to double clutching, it makes your downshifts a lot smoother.

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk This is not right. Try to drive fast without double clutching, or try to downshift from second to first gear when in movement. It helps a lot, and you are able to downshift fastly.

You also help the engine to stay exactly to the right rpms during the downshifting, so when you'll take away the foot from the clutch, your car will easily reach the right coupling between engine's rpms and wheels' rpm. This is important if you are at the limits: your braking will be more regular.

  • @zerotheking1993 why the hell would you shift down into first gear? thats the worst argument i've ever heard. i'll assume you meant 4th to 3rd, or something. even so, if you don't completely suck at using your throttle, you can rev match with a single clutching.

look, clutching in is essentially like being in neutral. all you're doing when you double clutch is making neutral last longer while wearing out your clutch twice as fast. now leave me alone.

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk I would shift down into first gear because I live in a place where streets are narrow and uphill, so if you want turn and go up without stopping your car in the middle of a bend, you have to downshift in first gear.

Clutching is not like being in neutral. I watched all day long videos and schematics of shifting systems yesterday and double clutching allows you to make your gears rotate at the correct speed faster than waiting the synchronizer.

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk not if you're granny shifting

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk but its good to know just encase

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk i had an argument with my friends about it, i said there is no point all of them said there is and i was stupid. So i just said w/e. Only one of them has ever owned a manual car.

  • @GrizNews I agree, and I've only ever owned manual transmissions. I think I'm up to 5 now.

The best part about having a top comment, I'm discovering, is that you get tons of people replying and telling you why you're an idiot. Thanks for not being one of them.

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk he did say that in the video didn't he?

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk if a synchronizer goes out, you have to double clutch. I have seen it happen on everything from Dodges to Audis

  • @ZeCockOfTheWalk It saves the syncros. Especially helpfull if they dont make parts for your transmission anymore and extra transmissions are few and far between.

  • everytiime i try to heel and toe i end up pressing the brake pedal harder when i go to blip the gas hahaha

  • It sounds like a turbo whistle. Cool. !

  • this is so sexy

  • you're very good at it! Congrats. who taught you? I am from Romania so, for us, the manual is usual. But there in the US who learned you?

  • Thanks for the informative video. :0)

  • You're very good! Nice job!

  • Well done; you're a good instructor. I self taught (is there anyother way?) to heel and toe. Dont feel comfortable clutchless shifting so hope never have to do it. Cell phone should solve situation if ever stranded. Maybe will fool around a bit with double clutching for fun. My cars...My baby (bought new) my faithful 1991 Mazda Protege, (180,000 miles on it), 2001 Mustang Bullitt 24,000 mi) and 2006 Mazdaspeed 6, (14,000mi).

  • nice one bro!

wanna learn that heel and toe:D

  • Hahah i like how you said "i am filipino". I feel for you though man i hate these haole's saying islanders are mexicans and shit...

  • why do the clutch in clutch out lol, just hit the gas same time ur switching gears with your foot on the clutch lol.

  • @codeyp52

Coz that's a single clutch not a double clutch (Which is what I assume you are talking about)

  • @ibepirateowl yes, it is. but theres no point in double clutching in a modern car. the rev's go up fast enough anyway.
