Correct. A USAAF raid took out 3 of the semi-elliptical trusses, and a Japanese engineering firm replaced them with the 2 larger squarish trusses after WW2 as reparations,according to the little plaque on one of them. Got a pic of it somewhere, hope this helps,REgards.
thereflector, Hi there, this may surprise you but it IS the original bridge. There were two, the timber trestle one was downstream, they were completed within about four months of each other. The timber one was removed after WW2 because it hampered river traffic. Regards.
I recall reading somewhere that this bridge was either bombed or sabotaged at one point and that the rectangular frames were built afterwards because the original bridge had all curved frames. Do you know if this is true?
