@stringscgda -- hi, we don't use a separate mic...all the videos have been recorded using a $79 casion digital camera in the video mode. whatever tiny mic is built into the camera is what we use :)
@justinj88j -- i've played on several gliga instruments, both violins and violas...i find them always well made, almost artistically made, and all have beautiful voices.
Wow. Working on this piece now on mandolin. Not easy. Working the fingering out is a pain in the ass! I don't have years of experience as you clearly do. Thanks for sharing. I can kind of get a sense of where your fingers are going. =)
well, it was over a year and a half since i played this violin. it was part of an estate very large collection of violins owned by a professional violinist. i got about five minutes to tune it up, pick a piece from from an equally large sheet music collection, and record the sound sample. all i remember is that it was labeled Christian Gliga. i've played a few gliga instruments, this one, a gama and two maestros; they're all really nice.
7 months ago I posed a comment about this violin. Now, I've ordered a Gliga Gama and can't wait until it arrives. This video helped me choose Gliga. Now it is helping me be patient.
hi, congrats on getting your gliga! i have played several gligas and a couple of gamas...i think they're really terrific violins. i hope you post something when you get it...if you do, let me know :D
this is definately a gliga. very nice violin and probably one of the last instruments added to this estate collection that i'm sampling for these videos :D
Wonderful. Which Gliga Model is this violin? I am considering getting a Gliga; their website offers some nice variety of violins for very appealing prices.
oh thanks! i have Infield reds made by tomastik on my pesonal violin...they last for awhile and are a little warmer than dominants, but similar. i'm not sure what the strings on this violin were.
hi. i'm not an expert on violins...i'm just a violin student, but i've played on several gliga violins. the maestro and gama are really excellent, nicely made violins. the models below the gama are also very nice, but the couple i've tried didn't have the volumn of the gama and maestro. and the only difference i could tell on the gama and maestro was in the finishing, but i didn't try them side by side so i might have missed something. good luck with it :D
Hey, if I remember correctly, you've played Bohm's Sarabande before, right? I just came back from a music camp, and the concert mistress and I performed it as a duet. It's on my page, if you might be interested in watching it. :D
Again, you are awesome! Such a young person with very great feeling and lovely playing. You do so well to bring such great music to YouTube! May I askm what is your favorite modern violin maker? and what is your second favorite? Thanks
wow, i'd have to think about that a bit...when you say modern, do you mean current makers? i played on a violin about a year ago by vandergriff that was amazing...also by a maker named Nute, excellent too. i played a Fink violin that was really special. and Bohmann! special sound, and maybe the most beautiful and different looking. i'll give it some thought :D
You are kind. Thanks for your reply. I am very interested in what your thoughts are, as you have much valid experience trying out various makers. Yes current makers, but recent ones as well. It is so awesome that a young woman is as hard working as you - since there are many distractions for all now. Keep up the great work.
If I may chime in and throw in another modern maker; Randy L. Steenburgen. He's a renown bow maker but does violins too on the side. His stuff is great and, though I may be biased since I know him, it's worth the price if you can afford a violin and bow. :D Sorry, didn't mean to cut in. *falls back to his corner*
I didn't mean professionally .. lol I was meaning just for fun or so.. I will keep listening and if someday you decide to do a cd, say something =P great playing
wow...ok, i'll definately say something. i'm really glad you'd even be interested--i'm just getting by here with a $79 casio digital camera. wish i knew more about recording :D
I would definitely buy a CD. You know you can go to a professional studio and for about $80 an hour you can do a professional recording. At least, those are the rates here in CA. If you do it I'd buy two copies; one for me and one for a friend of mine for sure. Think about it; even if you record only like 5 pieces I'd pay $10-$15 for it. :D
Haha, wow. I don't know what to say to that...hm...let me think about it. Don't want to be so nonchalant. :D Maybe it just means I have to record first. @_@
simply beautiful, stunning, I just lost words.. that must be a pure combination of talent, passion and work, or at least seems that way.. You made me want to improve my musical skills .. excellent playing !!
What microphone do you use to record all of these violas & violins?

Hi! What's your personal opinion on Gliga violins for and intermediate student that might be about to enter an orchestra.
I was offered one. I don't know what type yet, but I think it's a Gama...
Thanks
