I can't agree with you fully, but artists like this and George Clinton herded the funk movement so it's a good point. I just think a lot of other cultures contribute to this sort of music and though many funk musicians are American themselves - they bring in other cultural elements to the compositions.

I always associate different songs with different places usally with artists from that particular region, this the song that always pops in my mind when I visit or think about New Orleans, moreso than any other song.

I was thinking the same thing. Nice bass, I'm a bass player and that was of course the first thing I noticed. I bet there are many songs like this one out there and we just don't know about.
