I like the sound of the Hydraulic Pump. :) I'm taking AC 761 this august (YUL-SFO); Airbus 319. Should be great, but I much prefer the A320! Great video!
@1982FMJ Air Canada's A320s use either the CFM56-5A1 or the CFM56-5B4. Though they are very similar, the 5B4's are newer than the 5A1's. The 5A1's tend to produce more grinding noise than the 5B4's. That could be the difference that you are hearing.
I've been on quite a few of these and a lot of them make that noise while taxiing. I'm not sure why....???? It always makes me a little nervous when I hear that stuff before takeoff...
@Robsaints Nothing is wrong with it. It's making that noise because we were taxiing on one engine which doesn't produce sufficient pressure in the haudraulic system. The PTU is therefore constantly turning on and off to top off the hudraulic pressure.
@YULspotter Sorry to correct you, but this info isn't really correct. I am a pilot and there is really never a set take off speed. Take off speeds have many variables such as the take off weight of the aircraft, pressure altitude, dry/wet runway, temperature, wind, runway slope etc. An A320 has a rotation speed (Vr) anywhere between 110-162 KIAS which is in knots indicated airspeed. On average, you'd see closer to 120-140 knots at rotation so that's about 138-161 mph.
im a bit nervouse at takeoff , once in the air im fine, but like 10 seconds after takeoff in air i feel like im falling. why is this? can annyone help me?
I would like to be a pilot when I get out of highschool . Was it hard to aquire your aviation license . What were the requirements for being a pilot ?

I just love the lifestyle of being a pilot . Getting to get paid for traveling . I've always wanted to travel and now I will get that chance .
I flew on a BMI A319 a few weeks ago and we also taxied to the runway on one engine and the noise from the hydraulic pump could be heard. Why would they use only one engine to taxi to the runway and start the other up when they reach the threshold..? Seems a bit strange but I'm sue there is a logical reason for doing it...
It's the Power Tranfer Unit (PTU). We were taxiing on 1 engine and since 1 engine isn't enough to keep the haudraulic system at full pressure, the PTU comes on to top up the system.
I had a flight from Manchester NH to Las Vegas, NV, and that little irritating noise continued for the entire flight - I was ready to find whatever it was and rip it out of the plane LOL - man was it annoying!
Oooh don't lke the sound of that very much.....having said that when on a flight recently, we hit turbelence and the engine made this strange loud roar. Shit me up, but maybe it was just he aircraft flying higher to avoid it....not sure.
Nothing is wrong with it. This is how it actually sounds. Normally you don't hear it as it only comes on when there is low pressure in the hydraulic system. There is low pressure here as the plane is taxiing on only one engine. This is a fuel saving measure. If both engines where running, this unit would not be operating during the taxi.
I hate flying because my ears pop. I have a hole in my eardrum and I know everyones ears pop but mine are really really bad. It is really so so painfull is there anyway to stop this? Please can someone help! Thanks!

Flying is the safest form of transport in the world, there have been fewer plane crashes in aviations history than there are car crashes in one day. Boeing statistics say your chances of being in a commercial aircraft accident with fatalities are around 1 in 3 million which in perspective is flying once a day for 8200 years. Per mile basis it is 22 times safer to fly than drive. All the cars in the world and all the aircraft in the world per year would total probably around the same number of
I think people are scare of flying because they don't know nothing about flying a plane. When you learn to fly one you can see that its fun and not so dangerous
miles or kilometres, give or take a factor of 2-5, yet fatalities are 200 times higher for cars. Flying is safe as, it's more dodgey crossing the road!
If your scared of planes don't be i no people are but its like driving put your million up in the air if you get scared don't think about the air or anything dint look outside just relaxing listen to music watch a movie if you can txt if you can and just enjoy it dont be scared
does the plane produce much g force when your taking off? im most scared of not being able to get off if it becomes to much lol. what would you compare the take off to?
You can't feel g force really. The take off...you can feel the plane rising as you leave the ground but otherwise it doesn't feel like much. You look outside and it's amazing to be "floating" in such a large, heavy object.
It's sort of like going up in a lift, but not exactly the same. When your taking off you can feel a sinking feeling in you stomach from the rising plane, and a sensation in your ears due to the decreasing atmospheric pressure (the best thing to help this is tho basically chew some gum)
im like so scared of planes now. I have to go to new jersey from florida. and I have no choice I HAVE to go. and I try so hard to calm myself and not think about it but I cant help but feel really scared and nervous :(
Like others have said, thanks for posting this video. I have been on many a flight before and am going to be on another one in less than two weeks (to YYZ, as a matter of fact!) and I am always nervous as hell before I get on a plane. It's nice to be able to watch the takeoff in full, as that's the part that makes me the most anxious. Thanks again~!
Thanks for posting this, im flying for the first time next week and wanted to see what its like, im really nervous! I am also 25 btw haha I live a sheltered life with this being my first time!
I don't really understand the question but you don't have to fly in and out of where you were hired, it's just where you live or where you are based out of, hope that helped.
It doesn't even look to be that high. I'm scared of heights, but when you're in a plane, you don't really feel the heights. It's very interesting and I even feel relaxed when on planes.
i was just on a plane and i can still feel the turbulance..... aaugh. i HATEE planes.... i have a severe case of airophobiea. take off is the worst 4 me.
IS there the chance everybody is running on exhaust fumes when onbaord these aircraft. IS there a chance

@caboy69 V1 => Critical engine failure recognition speed
V2 => Takeoff safety speed. The speed at which the aircraft may safely become airborne with one engine inoperative
Rotate is when the aircaft has reached sufficient speed to take-off. It's when the pilot pulls back on the stick.

I think people are scare of flying because they don't know nothing about flying a plane. When you learn to fly one you can see that its fun and not so dangerous
Coolboez305 2 years ago 5
miles or kilometres, give or take a factor of 2-5, yet fatalities are 200 times higher for cars. Flying is safe as, it's more dodgey crossing the road!
ca11um15 2 years ago 2
dont be scared! Did you know that you are more likely to get into an accident going to the airport then being in the plane!!
doomangel444 2 years ago

maryrocks2008 2 years ago
does the plane produce much g force when your taking off? im most scared of not being able to get off if it becomes to much lol. what would you compare the take off to?
holdenls1ssz 2 years ago
You can't feel g force really. The take off...you can feel the plane rising as you leave the ground but otherwise it doesn't feel like much. You look outside and it's amazing to be "floating" in such a large, heavy object.
lvp038 2 years ago
ah ok thanks. more like a lift then?
holdenls1ssz 2 years ago
it basicall feels as if you were going up a rollercoaster hill at a somewhat high speed. some, but very little pressure.
cpoll94 2 years ago
It's sort of like going up in a lift, but not exactly the same. When your taking off you can feel a sinking feeling in you stomach from the rising plane, and a sensation in your ears due to the decreasing atmospheric pressure (the best thing to help this is tho basically chew some gum)

I f a pilot is hired in montreal does that mean he will alway send up flying out of and into montreal?
MrCars 2 years ago
I don't really understand the question but you don't have to fly in and out of where you were hired, it's just where you live or where you are based out of, hope that helped.
frequentairbusflyer8 2 years ago
That's great. thank you
MrCars 2 years ago
It doesn't even look to be that high. I'm scared of heights, but when you're in a plane, you don't really feel the heights. It's very interesting and I even feel relaxed when on planes.
