  • I lost all of my files and everything saved in my external HDD. I was doing everything as a practice but i didn't realized that it would wipe my external data completely.. Is there any way i can get my data back? like system restore... Please help

  • @bunjimboy36 Depends on what happened, unless you used a 3rd party secure erase program to do it, you should be able to use data recovery software to get it back. Do a quick google search for free data recovery software. ive been checking out partitionwizard. com and i like it so far.

  • THIS THING WORK ON PC TOO?

  • not working, it boots up but then it says no drivers found after you get past the "install now" help

  • @raylovesmetal agree, same problem

  • @raylovesmetal that has to do with the windows 7 install cd you might have to create another iso file of the windows 7 cd

  • Thanks for making this tutorial! It was exactly what I needed for my netbook.

  • too late i destroyed erything and now im reformatting as i write this comment :( sux gonad juice oh well lesson learned

  • so ok b4 i continue and destroy everything i have on my external (possibly even the 7 disc) id like to know a few things..... like if i partitioned my external already, can i use either part of the external? and how do i select said partition? my drives r split like so: i got c drive, d drive and e drive....but e is split into e and g drives and d is split into d and f drives... what do i do?

  • perfect, exactly what i needed!

  • Thank you so much. I built a new computer and the power supply I bought only has one SATA power cable (Enough for EITHER the disk drive or the hard drive). With this, I was able to boot from my flash drive to install Windows on my hard drive, bypassing the disk drive altogether. You saved my sanity.

  • after i add

    z: cd boot

    cd boot

it says it cannot find the path specified :(

  • @terminator499 its

    d: cd boot

    cd boot

    (whatever else here)

  • @DareonNXbox my drive letter was Z

It does not matter now , i used a program called win2flash ,worked like a charm.

  • @terminator499 ohh i forgot the DVD drives could also be diff... and i just uswed it for my usb... (win2flash) hopping it will work :D

  • hi i forgot to command to assign and now my pc cant see my external hard disk plz can some one tell how to fix this problem???? plz :(

  • @webuman

Right Click on Computer and Click on Manage .

    Select their Disk Management .

In Disk Find your Disk or Drive which forgot to Assign .

Right Click on that you will find option Change Drive letter path . Click on that . after that you will find a popup box and Click add on that .

  • bro,it worked like a charm, you're the man. Thx a lot!!!

  • Why is it when I do the bootsect:exe/nt60 e: it doesnt work, it just goes to the next command line? i need an answer quick!

  • Someone please help me.I have made a second partition on my 1TB HDD Drive

and put the windows instalation in there and made it an active partition

now i am trying to install windows on my laptop like this

i have set the boot device priority to External device in the bios but when i try to boot off the HDD the _ just keep flashing forever and never stop or does anything i dont know what to do anymore please help me

  • @VICTORIAVIIA Did you use a cracked/burnned copy of it? If so, get a better .iso (:

  • i did this, but inseady of a windows 7 CD, i had to on another USB, and when it asks were i want to install it, it says i cannot install through a USB cable, any help?

  • Thanks, this helped me a bunch. Was very very helpful.

(P.S. not 100% sure its worked yet, still copying the files from the cd to the external drive)

But sense mine matched yours, i'm going to assume this worked.

  • why i type cd boot, the system cant find specific path?

  • thanks a lot man.

  • A key note to add is that in order for this to be run correctly you have to run CMD as administrator, or it will deny you access when it comes time to send the bootable file to the external device.

  • kiitos sinulle huomaan nimimerkistä että oot suomalainen oli todella paljon apua toi windowsin tekemä apuohjelma ei toimi win 8 kanssa kiitos ;)

  • thank you very much bro, i managed after failing 100 times myself to use my seagate 1tb hard drive to create windows 7 64bit bootable on it by following your tutorial, i cannot thank you enough, THIS WORKS PERFECT GUYS DO IT xD

  • Question : I Have Windows XP Setup Disc And A 100GB HDD , How Can I Install It On The HDD With Windows 7 Home 64bit? or Is That Not Possible?

  • Thanks for your help bro!!!!!

  • Thank you!

  • i have Many Things in my flash disk So i cant format it , it is Posibble to Install with out formating my flash ?

  • But it must Format my flash drive Before install the windows But why ???

  • hey greate video, But I was wondering if after you make the device bootable such as an external hard drive can you still keep using it normally after you make it bootable.?

  • I have a question what if I downloaded the windows 7 from utorrent? would I still have to do this?

  • @raiders2007 just burn it onto a disc?

  • @yeason2010 I already did it. this way didn't even work for me. and i didn't have to go through too much crap lol

  • what about format fs=fat32 quick whats the difference

  • @pookieslim its just a different partition but usually flash drives under 2gb are fat32 and windows 7 cant fit on a 2gb flah drive. and im starting to find that ntfs is allot faster anyways

  • @pookieslim forget FAT32, it's as old as Windows 95. NTFS is currently the best file system for Windows. Even Linux can read it.

  • is there a way to install win 7 to the drive its self so i can just plug it in to a PC and boot right on to windows 7 kinda a portable win 7

  • This version of E:\boot\bootsect.exe is not compatible with the version of Windo

  • hey guys im stuck u know when uu copy the file from cd to the hhd it gets stuck and it wont let it send the install.wim for some reason any help plzzzzzzzzzzz ?

  • @MrLe0x no .it use your usb/hdd as a window 7 installation

  • Everything seems to have gone perfectly ........except............

I re-booted and went into the setup utility in order to see if it would boot from the external (My Book Essential backup drive I transferred to system and boot files to)......and in BIOS, my setup utility lists an option to boot from a USB -CD Drive....but not a USB external HD..........I tried booting from that...the only USB option available....but this did not work...................seems I'm stuck......

    any suggestions??

  • Great video but I am catching hell trying to find out how to replace my crashed internal HDD with a bootable partition (360GB) that I created on my External HDD. Do you know how this might be possible? I have critical data on the other partition which I can not format or dump. I have been trying with Acronis Disk Director 11 and searching like crazy but everyone is stuck on boot from a USB while using their working internal HDD to run the machine. Let me know thanks again.

  • Thnx bro..u r the man....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • tnx you very much!!

  • it doesnt install it right it on the computer? it only runs of the external drive right? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HELPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @robert36338 when it ask to install make shure you pick the right drive to install it in

  • @robert36338 no. its for using your usb as an installation of windows 7

  • once i do this am i still going to have to get drivers for it such as audio, video, graphic etc.?

  • @robert36338 yes it acts like an installation just like the cd. i recommend to just make windows 7 update your computer like 4 to 5 time . it works for me most of the time and if it cant find it i just download the drivers for it

  • @homo1225 sup can i do this without having a w7 disk? by mounting a w7iso file? i wonder cuz i just bought a brand new computer (parts) (which i put together) and i am so stupid i didnt count the OS in my budget so it is OS less. and need to get a os on it (w7). so if i do all this but with a mounted w7 iso it will work?

  • What shall i do if i have windows 7 setup disc on usb? Do i have to change the letters for the drive? Or shall i make a new CD

  • @Ajirthan you would have to do the same process but use a program to extract the contents if its a image file

  • @homo1225 Can't install windows 7 onto an external USB hard drive which model is Buffalo and it is 500GB. Need Help!

  • thank you bro.. worked perfect!!

  • bro, when i got to "get the bootsect on the cd". it prompted that 'the file path cannot be found'...can you help me with this? thanks in advance...

  • subbed like favorite what else can i do? you the fuckin man! thank you so much dood!

  • Dude you're a life saver. This video helped me make my computer see my external HDD. I loaded a firmware that pretty much messed up my Buffalo HDD. I was able to format it to fat32 but couldn't get it to format to NTFS. Once I followed your steps to format the drive to NTFS my computer could see my drive again. Thanks

  • @moorebounce

your welcome. glad to help ! ! !

  • Thanks man! It help'd for me! Good Job!

  • @aivasport thanks

  • thanks this helped alot

  • Hi dude!

    Thanx for a great video!

I use Win7 in my computer right now but i thought i already have a External HD which i want to install Win XP Home edition, so my question is, do i do the same steps that you did in this tut? Cuz i tried to follow all the steps but in the last step when i typed CD BOOT in the CMD it sayd "no shuch file found" .... why is that?

    Thanx Again!

  • Btw, i got an error when i restarted my system:

    Couldnt find file: \Boot\BCD\

  • @ferduos2008 it might be that your cd drive haS a different letter other then [D:]

  • um.... instead of doing this in the command promt, you can just format your external hard drive or usb, then go into computer management and go down to disk management and make a partition from there and make it active.

  • @Sahota018 also forgot, this way is also good.

  • Wallpaper!?!?

  • Can I use the recovery disc instead of 'installation disc'?

  • @kwonbbl yes you can just make shure your partition is active and then just pull the iso files out and put them in your usb

  • thanks dude.. excellent tut

  • great vid, awesome instructions, but i had the installation files on my desktop, so i used a diffrent directory, but other than that i hope it works and thank you

  • great vid very straight forward but i have a question

I don't have a windows 7 disc but I do have a 5 set system recovery DVD +R that i just recently created. I'm actually confused, does windows 7 come on one disc when u buy the retail copy? And do i just need to copy all 5 discs to the usb hdd?

  • @basit124 windows 7 is on one cd only. thats how i made this methos of putting windows 7 on a usb . you probably just made a entire backup on those cd

  • HOW DO U FORMAT WITH XP?

  • @SyncedProductions insert ur drive, go to my computer, right click on ur drive, select format

  • @basit124 i found out when I did it =p

  • do an image of my windows and burn it ? then boot up with it ?

  • how do i boot from harddisk ? using windows xp ?

  • @abadiqaisy123 press f10 rapidly at beginning

  • @SyncedProductions i know how to choose that in bios but once i boot from usb! it will load and be blue screen

  • @abadiqaisy123 burn it on DVD+R discs and with 2x speed

  • Hey, I have two partitions of my ext. HDD, one for my mac, and one for windows, If I choose the disk 1, I hope both partitions will get erased, please tell what will happen?

  • Just so you guys all know, booting from a USB drive will be very slow. You are limited to a max of 480mb/s when running off of a USB drive. An internal SATA drive can get anywhere from 1.5 to 6 gb/s read/write.

  • Super job, Just one (or two) questions. Can this be done with other versions of windows.. if so what would be the commands. for ex: would (format fs=ntfs quick) be (format fs=fat32 quick) for say Windows Me or 98SE etc.. Aslo what about Linux OS is that posible. Id like to do this with Slax Linux also.. Or is that a whole different process? Thanks

  • @jfa2001 with slax and other linux its a completely different process but its super duper easyer then this with windows xp i dont think but using (format fs=fat32 quick) or (format fs=fat32 quick) wont relly make a difference if you going to put windows xp unless you going lower the that os like win 95 or win2000. id doesent hurt to try it out thow

  • ok so i have a seagate 1 tb external hdd can i partition it so like 100 gb if for the computer and have the rest of the memory as a usb drive? and if i do that can i use it so when it boots is auto detects the rest of the hdd like a usb drive?

  • well if your gonna install a operating system on it then yea you can partition it but im not 100% about using the rest of your memory being used as a usb but to be honest i think that's a bad idea if it an external you could go through alot of problems in the future . . .hope this answers your question

  • @homo1225 so there might be problems, it being a external hdd, i have seen how if you use an internal drive say 100gb you put 45 bg ntfs 45gb fat32 and then 10gb fat 32 for file sharing between the os

  • @1zacster yea but that's internal if you do it in a external is what can give you problems. if you decide to keep running the os on different computers you can get driver problems for one. two you cant trust usb to run an os for too long not all usb are strong enough to run three there a chip that's turns your hdd into a usb which makes it really slow if your os to run in you external ....hope this helps

  • @homo1225 yeah, the hdd i think is broken cam in a fujitsu pentium 4 and it has a weird conector with a bunch of pins organized in 2 rows

  • @1zacster if your hdd has a bunch of pins organized in 2 rows then you hdd is a IDE HARD DRIVE those are old versions of hard drive there are newer one called SATA and ATA. if your planing to put the hdd in your computer your going to have to get a ide cable and also make sure you have a ide port that has bunch of pins organized in 2 rows on your motherboard.if it does then plug it in to the one that has a different color from the rest of the ide port and you ready to put your os in

  • @homo1225 so i need a converter for sata or ata to ide?

  • i would recommend a 4 gb but if you have a windows xp thats lower then 600mb then im sure you will be fine with a 2gb flash

  • thanx bru... it worked ...

  • Damn i love the vid and it help's but i kinda Destroyed my Cd thing -.- 5/5 From Me!

  • help?! my USB will not show up when i enter "list disk" part... how can i get it to show up..??

  • Thanks buddy, your video was the only one to show me what I actually needed to do.
