Amazing, how some of these singers everyone is praising maybe be rapist, murders or even sold drugs to your friends or even family members back then and that's why they were in jail!!!
I would assume that if they are being praised as singers, not as rapists, murderers or even drug dealers. This is a program that existed in the penal in an attempt to ease recidivism in some manner. It may or may not have contributed to a solution. Other programs exist in correctional facilities for this purpose. I am sure that their are differing opinions on the effectiveness and/or merit of such programs. I myself continue to hope and work toward some improvement in our society.
This was shot around 1986 when I was music program director. I have not heard anything relating to these individuals for many years. Glad you enjoyed it.

FYI: The major source of "recidivism" is the parole system, not the "criminals."
The major "crime" that leads to recidivism is "parole violation," NOT NEW CRIMES.
The system is rigged to destroy lives, a person being released from prison has a 95% chance that a parole officer will send him or her back.
When the Giddion laws passed "You have the right to ...", Florida had to instantly release huge numbers w/ no parole, etc.
With no government interference, there was 5% recidivism.
