RAILTECHCHASER, what organization do you volunteer with? From the sounds of your name, nowhere. You'd rather chase then get dirty. Steamtown is more than willing to take volunteers on to restore whatever you want in their collection. It's really not a bad place to volunteer once you figure everybody out so either put your money where your mouth is or shut the hell up. 759 is overkill for their needs. You don't need a fast freight engine to pull a 26 mile trip once or twice a month.
It just bothers me to no end to see these railfan kids tell the people actually doing these projects how to do it. Now do you see why I can't stand railfans?
That could be helpful because many railfans are calling Steamtown a railroad junkyard. Most of the outside exhibits are in poor condition now. The NPS should evaluate their locomotives well for them to operate. 2317 needs new tires a nd steam pipes, that's why it's in the shop constantly. With Baldwin 26 still in the shop, it leaves CN Mikado 3254 operational. Also many people are calling Steamtown Dieseltown because over the past couple years we've been seeing mooew diesels pop up in this yard.
By the same token, Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 #2317 was put back into sevice 2 years ago. Now they want to take it out of service again for the next 2 years for inspection. The morons at the NPS say that they're rushing to get Baldwin 0-6-0 #26 done to power the Scranton Limited yard train. That engine has not been seen on the rails since 2001.
759 is one big ass engine, it looks powerful enough to do the Moscow and Tobyhanna excursions. Plus it looks like it is in good shape for restoration. But, the National Park Service being the dickheads that they are don't want to spend the money to put it back in operation again.

Is 565 being restored to operated or just having a makeover to look new again?
RAILTECHCHASER 2 years ago
Ther's talk that we might restore it to operate, but more then likely it's onlt a cosmo.

Well at least there will be a brand new looking locomotive in the yard to look at.
RAILTECHCHASER 2 years ago
No. it will be stored in doors in the 1902 roundhouse next to the cut out loco.
Conrail6370 2 years ago
At least it will be safe in there.
RAILTECHCHASER 2 years ago
