  • i'm surprised harper hasn't hired bettman

  • phoenix is gone, jordin sparks is more popular than the coyotes

  • Gary Bettman has the typical American attitude on hockey as they have on everything. If it's American it's instantly better even if it loses money and no one wants it, and if something is from anywhere other then America it's inferior evil and worthless. Just look at their tv shows and movies anywhere outside of America looks like it's set in the 1940s, Americans truly believe in stereotypes. They rather have a American failure then a success foreignly.

  • This is so funny!

  • hocky is like watching paint dry

  • exactly what happened

  • Quebec city needs to have a team too.

  • Montreal was where Hockey was created

  • @TheMatlemon hockey wasnt created in montreal you tard, the french arent that smart

  • @daviewillieross Hockey was created in Montreal by a Haligonian from Nova Scotia and a bunch of his English pals...check it out on wikipedia or any other site...it checks out :)

  • @gudskyld you believe wiki, it can be edited by anyone

  • Gary Sucks... Put a Canadian in charge!!!

  • @warsilver99 Fire Gary! Hire Daly! Bettman gotta go! Bill Daly needs to step up. Or someone else that has played the game of hockey and not from some other professional sports league like the NBA. :P

  • I"m from Raleigh, North Carolina and hockey is actually gigantic here.

  • Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver make more money combined that all other teams in the NHL what does that say you so called numbers whiz gary buttman.

  • Does anyone think Rick is funny. I can watch CBC in America and I don't think he's funny

  • @de132 He's not immediately and universally hilarious, but his humour is rather cathartic as he mischeviously expresses the political and cultural frustrations of a large number of Canadians. We don't have alot of Jon Stewarts up here. I suppose he's the closest we've got.

  • In 1917, there were 4 teams in the NHL. Rick Mercer's an idiot.

  • @felixlpilon was actually going to post something on this but you beat me to it. Ottawa, Montreal (Wanderers), Montreal (Canadiens) and Quebec (who promptly moved to Toronto). Love Rick Mercer but sometimes he needs to get his facts right.

  • @felixlpilon was actually going to post something on this but you beat me to it. Ottawa, Montreal (Wanderers), Montreal (Canadiens) and Quebec (who promptly moved to Toronto). Love Rick Mercer but sometimes he needs to get his facts right.

  • I love hockey, but the NHL is kind of crooked. So, when I say I love hockey, I mean I love playing hockey with random people in a neighborhood rink in the middle of the night in Toronto. Good times, eh.

  • @insaneapples how does shootouts ruin the game did u enjoy watching 15 ties a season I didn't I love the fact there's a winner, I wouldn't mind seeing 10 min of 3on3 though

  • like 8 teams in the nhl are the only ones that make money

  • Shootouts ruined hockey for me. It's a fucking disgrace to the game.

  • So who's psyched that Winnipeg might actually get its team back?

  • @crazydavedc i was looking for that comment... Go Jets Go?

  • @crazydavedc Whos psyched that they are back :P

  • @crazydavedc ring ring .. they did get there team back :P

  • @vistasstoned Man, I was so excited when word finally got out. Before that point, I was basically resigned to the idea that we were going to lose all our teams to the U.S. if we weren't careful.

  • bring em back fuck bring em all back wait for a matter of fact take every tam in south of the U.S and bring em up to canada theyd atleast fill the arenas fuck put a team in a small place like sudbury ontario with a 15t thousand population we would still fill the house better than atlanta or pheonix

  • @hanmerboys maybe your right about atlanta and pheonix ( Americans don't really like hockey ) but taking all hockey teams out of America, you'll just have more lockouts and you will lose all you talents

    - canada would start a CHL, with far less revenue

    - America would have more money and restart the NHL in northern cities ( paying more money )

    - all your good players will be upset while comparing paychecks and leave for the NHL

    - CHL vs NHL will be like NFL vs CFL

  • Winnipeg Jets... we're coming hooommmmmeeeeeee

  • Canada needs to get out of the NHL and take our cup with us

  • @officetrax Totally agree. We should start a league that is more like soccer in Europe operating on a system of promotion and regulation. That way, if the Leafs continue to suck, they're out of the premier hockey league and then perhaps a team from a place like Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec might be in if they're good enough and take the cup. We can even have the equivalent of a 'World Series' with the US champions if they still wanna do their thing.

  • @officetrax Don't you think you should at win it again before you start talking about leaving?

  • i laughed so hard

  • Sometimes I think TV live audiences don't really get/miss a lot of jokes. I guess that is why they have laugh tracks half the time.

  • I love how hockey is something that really brings people together in. Total strangers shared a beer at the local pubs in Vancouver to watch the 2010 Olympics hockey final and people get together in arenas every week to watch the Leafs. I took a train home from Toronto once and a bunch of hockey fans that had just watched the Leafs were going crazy, and they didn't even know each other. THAT is why I love it. So get some wings and beer and watch some ESPN w/ your friends.. but don't invite Gary!

  • lol "They'd rather shoot rats at the dump" priceless

  • I like how the Maple Leafs are consistently near the bottom of the standings, yet they're able to put a good majority of asses in seats. Yet Atlanta and Phoenix are having a half-decent season this year, while only bringing inno more than 3000 fans per night. Clearly success in hockey for a team does not equal fan attraction.

  • @DecapitatedDoctor

The Maple Leafs are majority-owned by the Toronto Teachers Union. That is where they have a huge amount of their retirement fund tired up. The other major area is Toronto-based real estate.

Anyway, if the players win a lot they get paid bonuses. The Teachers Union does not want that; therefore they make sure to get idiot coaches and idiot players, who don't really give a crap about winning because they are all making millions just for showing up. Only the fans suffer.

  • @BearBoi69 Fail 1 - Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the holding company that owns the Toronto Maple Leafs is majority-owned (66%) by The Ontario Teachers Pension Fund, not the Toronto Teachers Union (which doesn't exist),

    Fail 2 - MLSE represents <1% of OTPF's 100+ billion in assets,

Fail 3 - the second largest investor (20.5%) is Larry Tanenbaum, through his company Kilmer Sports Inc. Tanenbaum WAS CEO of Kilmer Van Nostrand Co. Ltd. a very large construction company.

    Fail 4 - You suck

  • @BearBoi69 Fail 5 - OTPF is the largest pension fund in Canada. It is administered by professional money managers who are very good at what they do, not by teachers with an axe to grind. If OTPF is dissatisfied with MLSE it is likely that the latter's growth potential going forward doesn't match the objectives of the former. OTPF is not interested in running MLSE, a job for which Mr. Tanenbaum is paid (he is Chairman of MLSE).

Fail 6 - veins popping on your forehead and drool on your chin.

  • "Rather shoot rats at the dump" LOL <|~D

  • Edmonton is threatening to relocate. A million dollars that Gary Bettman allows Edmonton to relocate to Houston before he lets Phoenix relocate to Winnipeg. The Oilers just need a new arena. Phoenix just needs 20,000 fans. That's what's wrong with hockey. The business side. The game itself is o.k. until the Fox Trax puck and widened nets comes into play.

  • @JAyala9703 i think the oilers are fine. we are not going anywhere soon. could i see a reference of this.? this issue with Houston is long gone now. (thank god)... bettman has nothing to do with the oilers arena. its our fucked up city. and they want to put 18 000 seats in that arena... WHAT THE HELL. 20 000 is what edmonton needs. maybe edmonton should think about the future of the city not just the next 10 years.

  • AMERICA! Y U NO LET HOCKEY COME HOME?

  • @Unstbecsta or sunthin.

  • 4 people are fans of the phoenix coyotes

  • GARY BETTMAN IS A DISGRACE TO THE USA. Seriously guys, Im sorry he was ever born and completely destroyed what was building into an amazing league (HOW DO YOU MESS IT UP AFTER NEW YORK WINS THE CUP?! NO LEAGUE LOSES MONEY WHEN NEW YORK WINS ANYTHING!). Its coming back though, and hopefully someone puts a team in the MTS Centre. Rick forgot Hartford though, I mean come on BRASS BONANZA IS A CATCHY TUNE!

  • The NHL should drop Nashville, Pheonix, Columbus, Florida, Caralina, dallas, and Atlanta and put teams in Winipeg, Quebec city, and Hamilton fuckin bettmans just too sturbon to admit he was wrong how do Florida and California have more teams than Quebec

  • Teams in Nashville, Phoneix and Tampa not getting any attendance and not making any money. Yet Bettman denies Jim Ballsille purchasing a team and moving it to a more profitable area like Hamilton. It's just outrageous!

  • @notredale123 I never understood why Hamilton was denied an NHL team. Bettman needs to wake up and realize that having a team in Phoenix won't make the league as much money than if the team was in Hamilton. I know it's in very close proximity to Toronto and Buffalo, but who cares! Goodness knows that the people of Toronto need another (hopefully better) team to cheer for. I live near the ACC, but I would attend a game in Hamilton over a Leafs game any day.

  • canada debt clock....thats the answer.

  • ugh i hate gary betman so much. he is the reason the NHL is failing, and hes too ignorant and stupid to let someone who actually know something about hockey to take his job.

  • i think their might be a new wha because of the ownership/attendance issues

  • @pspboy7 you forgot one Denver Colorado cant forget Joe sakic

  • @lolz758 Doh, sorry man, Colorado too...

  • Lol. I love this guy!

  • Oh yeah, and Detroit, my bad hehe. I knew I forgot one. Can't forget Detroit.

  • I live in Nashville and I find this amusing.

  • We lost control of the game when Bettman and the rest of the NHL brass allowed Anaheim to call their team the Mighty Ducks. It made o mockery of the history of the greatest sport on earth. Can you imagine Major League Baseball allowing a Canadian team to call itself the Bad News Bears? Shortening to The Ducks, doesn't help. It's still ridiculous.

  • Dude, those Southern American teams can get way more money by setting up shop in Regina, Winnipeg, Québec, Halifax and St. John. And they're all smaller cities too, talk about FAIL on Gary's part.

  • @Darcksaac so true and so sad

  • lol he's right on the money! who in Phoenix would watch hockey?

  • @FreshZerglings Cold State immigrants. At a Coyotes game you may have more Bruins, Rangers, Red Wings, Blackhawks et al fans there than those pulling for the home team.

  • @tucsonia

Yeah but in Montreal... Wow... If they catch anyone from another city they will be beaten and murdered

  • @FreshZerglings It is worst than that: L.A is not that far away from Phoenix... It only 6 hours in a car. But, they got at least 2 teams for that small niche when one (and a half) would do the jobs.

Now, look at the market at 6 hours of Montréal:Sudbury in Ontario, Chicoutimi, Quebec, Fort Kent ,Maine and New-York. You could probably run 1 teams in that circle, it will be a dilute market but still people would still watch it.

I will even consider Regina before thinking about 2 teams near L.A

  • I hope that prick Bettman gets impeached. I have no clue how someone get elected/appointed/hired whatever the fuck for NHL Comissionor, but I just hope he loses his job or gets run over by a train or something. 3 teams in California gimme a fucking break

  • i love this commercial thing it is so true and we need a team in hamilton because leafs fans need to find a team that can actually make it to the stanley cup finals

  • I hope Garry Buttman looses his job or something. We need a Canadian doing his job!

  • I am american, and I HATE GARY BETTMAN!

oh... and GO SHARKS! (we at least live by where it snows, and pack our arena every night)

  • i'm afraid it's all true

  • They need to put more teams where the fans are, places like, Hamilton, Regina, Halifax, Winnipeg, Quebec, Seattle, Minneapolis, you know, like northern places...

  • @pspboy7

Minnesota has a team again (it's just... in St. Paul - next door to Minnesota)

Portland should have a team. They have a great arena for it. if Winnepeg either expands, or builds a new arena, they should too for sure, and if Quebec builds one, they will get a neew team. Halifax and Regina? probably too small to get arenas... halifax has less than 150k people... and Regina isnt much bigger. Saskatoon barely would qualify. Hamilton though? Definitely should...

  • @Rabiddingo66 Just so you know, Minnesota is a state, not a city. The city across the river from St. Paul is Minneapolis. The Wild represents the state, not a city. Like the Carolina Hurricanes which actually represent two states. Or like the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL.

  • @Rabiddingo66 Halifax hasover 200k there's also all the surrounding areas. You can't just base it IN the city. You have to base it on stuff AROUND the city to.

    Sorta like Perimeter and Area.

  • Gary Bettman, don't care if I spelt your name right, you have ruined hockey for the most loyal fans.Shame on you, shame on Bill Daley and shame on your entire upper management staff. You have brought shame to the game that every north american loves, because of the all mighty dollar. With you at the helm, there is sure to be more strife ahead.Resign now, give us back the game we loved.

  • Gary is a douche bag can't stand that screw up..

  • wayyy to ture

  • this clip is great i think they need some teams back in canada

  • Amen!

...its scary how things have not changed alot after 6 years. The game has improved, seen changes, but there is still no interest. IT AINT WORKING! Give us back our sport Gary... you pompous, overbearing, stubbord twat...

I know he aint readin this...just venting

  • @sweiland75 Actually, Rick is homosexual and he is one of the celebrities who don't use their sexuality as a fame finder.

  • He isn't gay, he's just a noufie. Noufies and gays are very different

  • no, hes a newfie and gay. hes married to a guy . his producer or director and long time friend is his spouse

  • lol, he is actually both

  • it's a disgrace to our sport and our nation when you watch Atlanta, Nashville, Florida, and other struggling teams barely able to fill half their respective arenas (especially Atlanta, its pathetic there) and Gary just no matter what will not bring one of these teams to a Canadian market that could actually make some money. Who's idea was it to have an American Lawyer the commissioner for the NHL

  • @ConfettiKing: I'm American but I agree with you. There should be no team south of the Mason-Dixon line and the only west coast team should be San Jose because they seem to have a passionate fanbase.

  • @ConfettiKing fuckin right!

  • @ConfettiKing Thats weird considering american teams have more canadians on them then most canadian teams. Atlanta? really? They may not sell out seats but hockey is becoming huge in the south. Do you not want our sport to expand rather than just remain in canada? We are still the best, what are you worried about?

  • @ConfettiKing The second they allowed the name The Mighty Ducks for an NHL team, that was it. The NHL was no longer ours. This little Napoleon running it, we can look forward to teams in Dubai or Qatar.

  • @ConfettiKing *ahembringphoenixbacktowinnipegahem*

  • @ConfettiKing Fuck you. Nashville is doing fine.

  • @ConfettiKing haha, Atlanta is coming north of the border!

  • @ConfettiKing atlanta is now in winnipeg, of coarse yo probably already knew that though

  • @wildcat12000 Well His post was a Year ago, But We still have to get teams for Quebec City, Hamilton and Halifax. (to give us 10 and the States 20)

  • @ConfettiKing

    Revise that. ATLANTA TO WINNIPEG!

Nashville is currently owned by a local group that is committed to keeping the preds in NSH, and the crowds have been steadier.

Florida is already ahead of Winnipeg's capacity in attendance average. And their now majority-owner Vinik has his sights set on putting the Panthers in the playoffs since their cup run in 96.

Detroit Red Wings fan here, and I HATE GARY. FIRE GARY.

  • lol remeber kids dnt invite Gary :P

  • Also how many teams do you really need in California?

  • Yeah I doubt in America they can sell out every game, every season. You know like they do in Montreal and Toronto and probably others. Its funny to watch away games where there are more fans of the Canadian teams than the home team...

  • @ryfin2000 so true its not even funny

  • its fun to shoot rats at the dump

  • lol

  • America hockey isn't hockey :( it's insulting

  • put hockey in a COOL place instead of a cold place like Tampa bay LMAO

  • Halifax, Hamilton, Winnipeg, and Quebec City could really use a team. Maybe they could also have a Saskatchewan team to comprise the small population. (Like the BC Lions (CFL), or Minnesota Wild)

  • Has a game of pond hockey ever even been played in Arizona? I understood the reason for putting a team in Minnesota, but a fucking desert?

  • Bring back more Canadian team.

  • WHEN will someone do the right thing by the sport and get rid of Gary!

  • Gary Bettman, NHL Commissioner

  • hockey is ruined, get rid of 12 teams and kill gary

  • Rick ur great Gary ur not.

  • Rick Mercer is awesome. He has to be the only gay guy on TV that doesn't use his sexuality to make people laugh. He's just a funny guy--which is more than i can say for people like Richard Simmons... man they just creap me the hell out.

  • He's gay?

  • So true! i never even knew that he was gay when the Rick Mercer report came out. But when i did, it didn't change my opinion of him one bit.

  • @TheDeaditeSlayer really rick is gay?? Weird I thought he is married.. or maybe he was and had kids.. but thats cool

  • @walkertexasranger33 Yep. All true.

  • @TheDeaditeSlayer Rick Mercer's gay? Wow!

  • @TheDeaditeSlayer he's gay?

  • @xLeafs2012x Yeah apparently. I could care less though.

  • Gary WHO!!

  • Gary Who!!

  • HI GARY!

  • I've never understood why people who live in the desert wouldn't want to sit around a big chunk of ice.

  • Montreal Vs Toronto, as a kid I didn't know there were any other teams ( my big bro MADE me side for Toronto so his team would win ;) ahhh good times eh !

  • lol XD

  • Brilliant. Thanks for posting :)

  • Yet there's still hockey in Phoenix. Bettman seems to think it'll work. Maybe one day they'll realize what a blackhole that place is.

  • Ah, I love Rick Mercer.

  • great absolutely great

  • Comment removed

  • crickets a great time eh

    all civilized and what not,,,,,,

  • Boy, I bet you are the most fun person EVER to hang out with ,,, an absolute laugh a minute. Wow, you are so smart and wonderful and better than everyone else. How do you cope with being so fabulous?

  • lol

  • Crap vid quality. good fun tho

  • quebec went to Colorado though

  • WE WANT THE JETS!!!

  • lol we always lose our teams to the united states and they end up suckin for a long time

  • and the funny thing is that we pwned them at international hockey for several years now. Makes you think.....

  • LOL - Couldn't agree with the analysis more but ol' Gary had some big name supporters! It wasn't just anybody who invested heavily and also "prowls" the bench as coach for the doomed Phoenix franchise!!!

  • i hate gary

  • i <3 Rick Mercer.

Some American places make sense. Chicago, Boston, Detroit, New York, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Colorado all are perfect. Even St. Louis could be justified. But there should be NO reason that California and Florida get one team, let alone a combined five.

  • Buffalo is perfect too.

  • @Buffalosabskis Absolutely mate. Really the only American teams that qualify as hockey towns, are in no particular order... Philidelphia, Chicago, New York, Buffalo, Minneapolis, Pittsburg, Boston, and maybe even Washington. Everyone else is strictly NFL, NBA, or MLB sports cities.

  • We went to visit family in Tampa Bay. And they brought out a puck and wanted us to verify that it was indeed a hockey puck because they had gotten it as a gift and weren't convinced but none of their friends in Tampa knew for sure either. And THEY get a hockey team but Winnipeg (for example) doesn't. That seems wrong. At least in Canada the fans would be devoted as opposed to alot of Americans who like hockey but love other sports more.

Hockey you're #1 in our hearts! LOL

  • At the first ever Lightning game in Tampa Bay, a guy got a hat trick. Only one guy in the crowd knew to throw his hat on the ice and security came and kicked him out.

  • Are you kidding me?

    That is so absurd!

  • roflol! OMG, that's hilarious (in a very depressing way of course).

  • hahaha - yeah, that was chris kontos (I think he had 4 that game).

  • i cant watch this video

i cant watch this video HO

  • Hockey teams should be brought to, let's say: Back to Winnipeg AND Quebec; and give one to somewhere in Saskatchewan; maybe Victoria or Kaamloops; Thunder Bay or N. Ontario region; Halifax; maybe even Hamilton. I'm sure all those places could attract hockey fans.

  • Out of all the areas you mentioned the most likely is Hamilton first and you list it as a maybe. I think Canadians everywhere get robbed if a big league cannot be within 0-4 hours max of them. And this is from all parts of Canada!

  • THATS FUCKIN FUNNY!!!

    RMR RULES!!!:D

  • i just saw this on tv right now haha i had to find it to send my friend. so funny. lol. its true about tampa and florida lmao...ohhh Garry u suck hehe

  • Kind of pointless to have teams in Nashville, Carolina, oh and TWO teams in Florida. Plus, San Hose, that place just sounds tropical. Who would watch hockey there? My cousin from Ohio didn't even know Columbous had a team.

Hockey teams should be brought to, let's say: Back to Winnipeg AND Quebec; and give one to somewhere in Saskatchewan; maybe Victoria or Kaamloops; Thunder Bay or N. Ontario region; Halifax; maybe even Hamilton. I'm sure all those places could attract hockey fans.

  • Awesome...... Just Don't Invite Gary!

  • great vid eh well comment back on this comment if you think so

  • And thats what happens when you hire an American who knows nothing about the sport he is the commissioner for. Ruin an exciting game, and while trying to make it more exciting again, ruins it even more. Way to be Gary! Go back to basketball and leave hockey to the real MEN.

  • I agree that hockey is not as popular in some parts of the states as it is in Canada but if you look at markets such as Anaheim and Carolina, they certainly have a growing fan base. I'm assuming its the same in Colorado, maybe even more so with the successes of their team in the past ten years or so but I really miss that sense of good ol' Canadian hockey.

  • LOL i love rmr your right we need hockey back i mean desert people would rather act like hil bilys than watch hockey so bring it back and dont tell gary! PS washington and pittsburgh can stay othrewise we want hockey back!
