@Mormonhunk: I totally agree....it makes me feel so good to see good things happen to everyday people just needing one big break in life. Makes my heart full of joy...and that is why this game show will always be my favorite. The way this show was designed you can see that a win is obtainable and not so far out of reach.
Notice at :40 you can see Dick Clark on the left, in the shot, cueing the audience to hush (holding up one hand toward the audience and shushing with the index finger of his other hand) because of how critical it was that they not eat up the remaining time in such an important winner's circle round. Cool!
I love Mary's reaction at 1:23. It seems as though she "get's" what this $100,000 means to these folks and how it can change their lives. I love watching this one.
One of the things that was so great about this show was the genuine excitement from the celebrities as well. A lot of them took the game very seriously and you can tell when Mary screams like she did
I'm actually glad that the audience didn't storm the stage. I see them doing that as stomping on this person's amazing moment just to get on TV and trying to steal the limelight.
Thanks for stating who the celebrity was; I didn't recognize her. I've heard the name, but I don't know what she's done. Movies? TV? Anyway, she's a babe, no question about it. That has to be the best celebrity reaction in Pyramid history. Great clip. Dick Clark is to be commended, too. He's old school, letting the excitement of the moment speak for itself without blather like an idiot. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Mary Cadorette from Three's a Crowd was EXCELLENT.
I wonder did John Ritter give her a few pointers since he did Pyramid w/Bill Cullen? But also, Mary was on Super Password and on Body Language, and BTW, she has helped a female contestant win $10,000 on Body Language and she was GREAT on BL and on Pyramid, she was also excellent, God Bless Mary C. and BTW, the other celeb was the late David Graf from Police Academy Movies and Hail to the Chief, R.I.P. David Graf you are truly missed.
Right? That's why if I was a famous person, I would definitely do game shows, because I love to help people succeed and win and be happy. To me, there really is nothing better than to help make people happy. :)
I love this stuff. I hate how easy it is for some dumb, greedy person to win far more money by just picking the right briefcase. Back in the old days (and still, on a show like Jeopardy), you have to be good as SOMETHING to win a lot of money.
No, they're not. Things can be precious that aren't rare at all. Husbands, for instance. There's literally billions on this earth. Or ten-carat diamonds (they're expensive, yes -- but hardly rare).
There are "husbands" but only a few can really be called "precious". The rest are assholes. And diamonds are rare, that's why they're so expensive. It takes a lot of work to find QUALITY diamonds, since most are worthless, and have other elements mixed in with them.
Think of it from a celebrity's point of view. Whenever a team goes to the Winner's Circle, and they sit down for $100,000, think of the responsibility the celebrity withholds. They literally have the power to help change somebody's life. It's no wonder the stars are just as excited (if not more) as the contestant who won it all; the star is thinking "My God, I just totally came through for this person! This person's life will now change because of me! This is cool!!"
If you saw the whole episode, Mary mentioned that it was her birthday that day. What an AWESOME birthday gift that must have been, for both Mary AND ESPECIALLY PATTY!! :D
Me too, man. I had a dream a week ago where I was a Pyramid contestant, and I WON the $100,000!! My partner, Vicki Lawrence, gave me the biggest hug, Dick Clark patted me on the back and said a hearty "congratulations!", all my family and friends came screaming up from the audience, my mom and grandma were crying, and I was just beside myself with elation. (Sigh) if only it were real... :)
God I just LOVED it when they would win 100,000 thousand dollars...I have a clip (I can't find it) of someone who tried like three or four times in the winner's circle and FINALLY won and I was cheering along with her! It can be nerve-racking!
The woman giving was '80s actress Mary Cadorette. She played Vicky on Three's A Crowd (final spin-off of Three's Company) and was in the movie Stewardess School.:) I love her hair in this clip! That crimped perm, major '80s!
I think that's part of what made this show great was that even the celebrities were so excited after the big wins. Stuart Damon was the same way after being so serious leading up to it
When you think about it, as long as you give the right clue, some categories are more accessible than others. "A defective liver" was a brilliant clue for "Things You Transplant." I bet most celebrities would never have that come to mind.
Love this clip!!! It was so exciting for the lady to win the $100,000, but the strange thing is that the audience didn't come up to congratulate her like in the other $100,000 wins. If there are any more video clips of contestants winning the $100,000 on this show, please notify me. Keep them coming!!!
This is one of my favorite episodes of The $100,000 Pyramid! WAY TO GO, PATTY!!! (I know, I know, it happened 20 years ago) Mary Cadorette's hair is one of the reasons i wish the '80s would come back. Gotta love the perm!!

Which version of Pyramid did you like in the 80s $25,000 or $100,000?
nextbarker 3 years ago 2
I liked them both, but I'd have to say the $100,000 version. More money, more tension, it was awesome.

$25,000 version. Prefer seeing the celebrities and contestants play the game the normal way.
That said, I liked both versions.

what's better winning 425,000 or the $25,000 Pyramid or winning $100,000?
nextbarker 5 years ago
The reason for $100,000 Pyramid in 1985, which probably due to the big Press Your Luck winner 1984 who won $110,237.

The reason for $100,000 Pyramid in 1985, was because of Michael Larson's big win on Press Your Luck in 1984.
