Long live rock roll, southern rock, and of course, the blues where it all began. sure takes me back........so nice so nice so much talent to much loss. They had heart!
This Band was kick ass! I am proud to say I got to see them when I was about twelve years old at a fairgrounds in Ohio, It changed my life. The next day I had a harmonica and was driving my parents crazy doing the Blind Owl thing, Forty something years has gone by and still play it all the time. THANKS!!
Hy hyp hyp hypnotic piece. Sounds sitar to me. I checked over the insight statistics and the map on there.. India was pretty pale whereas Germany was dark green... So the sitar must be the national instrument for Germans 8D
@HAAKIE48 Ok, let the Tambora be Germans' national instrument. It's kinda loud thing, especially the old ones - perhaps 'twas a Teuton who played it in the region which is nowadays Indonesia on April 5th, 1815.. even Phil Spector could had been envious of the sound wall of that Tambora.
BTW, I found a couple of German connections on your vid, at 2:02 there's a bike powered by 6-cyl. air cooled boxer from Porsche, furthermore there was VW's "Kleinbuss" too 8D
When my friends and I first heard this back in the 60's we laughed because it was so different especially the vocals. It sounded like he was singing out of tune, like they picked somebody off the street to sing this song. It sounded great! I always picture a train engine when I hear the beginning and the end of the song, that drone sound. When I hear this tune now I'm amazed at how good it is.
Thanks Haake for posting the whole song, the extended solo is oft left out. This version if you know nothing of Alan is the epitome of blues harp. Yes they had to double, triple etc. the harpsichord sound but the harp is so rich. And his vocals live on in commercials, on the radio an in our heads still to this day. The real deal!
VERY PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF A GENERATION THAT GAVE A MEANING FOR LIVING ! Unlike now which is so f**king boring that it's not age that's going to eventually do me in but the simple fact that it's already dead. Feels like the walking dead when you look around you these days. Man how low can humanity go ? Never thought it would get this bad. It's simply amazing !
i know what you mean my friend we live in a shit stained generation our lives are stuck in this era and we cant do nothing about it atleast you lived those great times but i ( of fucking course ) was born too late : (
@lifeguard this is a reworking of a Floyd Jones song. this version IS one of the most bad ass songs ever recorded (to Me) or any blind owl fan !! the song just oozes into your soul and won't let go !!!
@zelenious - Alan took many of the Lyrics from "DARK ROAD" by Floyd Jones Recorded in 1953 at CHESS Records Chicago and that is why Alan credited Floyd on the Record Jones/Wilson - The Music is Pure Alan "The Blind Owl" Christie Wilson & CANNED HEAT.
@HAAKIE48 I mean no disrespect my explanation was not as concise as it could have been. Alan is an inspiration to me nobody has / had what Alan HAD !!!!!
@zelenious But the tembura was totally Alan`s idea.Floyd`s version had no tembura.A lot of `60`s artists played around with Eastern music....but not at this level.Wilson`s combination of this Chicago-Delta blues classic with the mystical tembura was peeerless-beyond belief. An everlasting work of genius.
This song is Alan Wilson at his best- a few years before madness planted its flag in Wilson`s great mind.
As Hooker said, Wilson was one of the great harp players-right there with Little Walter. The tembura-with its mysticism-was Alan`s idea. And the vocals-pure Skip James.
Hite, Vestine, Taylor and Fito were talented .But Wilson was in a class of his own-an example of Schopenhauer`s dictum: "Genius and madness are sure near allied-and thin is the partition that between them does divide."
@jazmaan Canned Heat Never depended on Alan to write hits - They never set out to have hits just to play the Country Blues - Alan - Bob - Henry - Larry - Fito - were pushed by Record companies and Management to have hits.
@HAAKIE48 Have you read Fito's book? He says they went to Wilson when they needed a hit and he didn't disappoint. As I recall Fito was talking about "Going Up the Country".
@jazmaan Of Course Ive read it !! but your taking that quote and commenting without the full story about how The Record Company & management & even the Fans to a Degree it says wanted new Hits and Alan of Course did'nt dissapoint !
I can't understand WHY we would need permission from EMI to see this? Surely those media bastards havent already got eternal copyright? This is FORTY YEARS OLD for fack sake.
Its clear those greed fucks want perpetual copyright so they can constantly re-release stuff and make money with no work FOREVER - and dont forget, with Wii's GUITAR HEROES & etc their market is EVERY YOUNG PERSON IN THE WORLD - FOREVER.
yes, thanks for that, i do understand the concept of copyright
Intended, of course, to protect the ARTISTS who CREATED the music, but, as every fool know, Musicians sign away their soul as soon as they sign a 'contract' with a media company, so it is the massive corporations who gain the most .
It doesn't change the fact that they are seeking to capture a market that is potentially EVERY CHILD in the world, FOREVER, if they can.
After all if you were a greedy corporate giant, wouldn't you?
@macthefork you are so right. So many of my favorites are being removed lately. Just let us old timers enjoy our beloved music without trying to shake us down - we've paid our dues, you greedy fucks.
@lifereguard CANNED HEAT are one of those Artists who sold away their rights & so we Play ON THE ROAD AGAIN for 42 Years with only payment coming from Live Gigs.
OMG i have been looking for this song for years and here it is :D
