  • Anne didn't leave Christ - she just left the Church as she found so much of it not aligning with her own personal relationship with God. I completely agree with her (even though I don't follow Christ) and admire her publicly saying she doesn't want to be apart of that dreadful institution.

  • wanna prevent abortion make getting birth control easier.

  • She didn't quit "Christianity" she quit organized religion. Having a gay son opened her eyes to the double standards of the 'church' and their hypocritical stand of do as I say....I mean Jesus.....not as I do.

  • /rxv1xU1ZOdM Fr. Barron comments on Anne Rice leaving Christianity. Exactly my point.

  • Anne Rice was never a christian, you cannot simply abandon christianity (because if you do, it means you never really believed at first place)... To believe in Christ and not at Christianity is to believe him as a man, and not as son of God. Religion is not a change of political party. God bless you.

  • @rafastv I beg to differ. Even the Bible states that in the end times Satan will deceive many even of the believers in Christ. Also to take a more general approach to the question back in the 17th century the vast majority of the world believed that the Earth was the center of the solar system then one man Galileo Galilei proved that in fact the sun was the center of the solar system. This changed what he and later what many others believed to be the true nature of he solar system.

  • Just because you believe in one thing one day doesn't mean that you have to believe it the next day. Your life molds your beliefs over time. You didn't just immediately come to believe in Christ did you? If you did then what is the point of conversion? If people couldn't change beliefs then conversion wouldn't even be possible.

  • @rafastv

You have absolutely no right to make that statement. You have no insight into what others believe in their own minds and hearts, how their beliefs shift and change in relation to differing circumstances. It's an idiotic apologism designed to absolve yourself of responsibility for considering that yes: people's beliefs, no matter how heartfelt they might be, can and do change, regardless of what they relate to.

  • @rafastv oh yes you can abandon your religion, especially when the heads of these so called religions are preaching hate and division... so yes you can.... it doesn't mean you were a fake christian, just means you have your own mind and moral views...

  • Anne Rice is my hero. I'm no atheist though, just a non-practicing Catholic. I really admire her for taking a stand in society and standing up for the oppressed.

  • @nagales I believe that Anne Rice is fully aware of any inconsistencies there might be in the bible, and she has studied it, and other related texts, more than most anyone who has ever read it. I believe she also draws her opinions from what she feels, from the evidence she has found from studying religion since she was in college. I don't find it strange at all, and I think she may have just felt out of place after her husband passed away and turned to the "church" for comfort and fellowship.

  • Anne Rice is a very intelligent woman. I respect her immensely for being able to gracefully take the public scrutiny and not come off sound like she's bitter. She has very reasonable concerns that everyone should take the time to reflect on. Don't write her off just because her views have changed more than once or because her views are different from yours. I can't tell you how many times I've changed what I believe in spiritually and I cannot begin to guess how many more times it will change.

  • Let's face it. She hates the church because her own son is gay. In the bad tradition of pompous writers, she's now looking for a epic looking bang by posting such crap as "I quit being a Christian".

In the end, she's a person who lives from making up things. See her story in that light.

  • It matters because you are making a straw man argument. I agree with you 100%

    Your dogma is inconsistent. Whatever.

  • @nagales The Bible doesn't state God is a "he" alone. The Bible says God created man in His own image, male and female He created them.

It doesn't say He created man in his own image, and then He created women as a lesser being. They are both equally in God's image.

It sounds like it is your dogmas that are inconsistent, not the Bible's.

  • @caveatemp I don't think God is either sex. I think when the bible says in his own "image" it means mind-able to think, reason, and create. body- able to hold life, do, and react, and soul- able to commune with Him, love, and be loved. I don't think God has a body form at all, but that He is light or energy.like what holds atoms and particles together. I think the only reason "He" is used is to help identify Christ as One with God.

  • @shortyj74 I agree, except for the part about God being light. If God authored the manifest universe then "he" can't be a substance or energy within it. Last time I checked light and energy was part of the universe.

  • I agree with Anne wholeheartedly. She is being honest and loving and not condemming anything..she is just following what she believes.
