Critical Mass is a celebration for cyclists. Minneapolis, and Minnesota in general, is a very bike friendly state, but that hasn't stopped 2 cars from disobeying basic traffic laws and hitting me. I cycle for recreation and was hit on two separate times by cars before I turned age 20. Critical Mass raises attention to cyclists (not all the attention is good as you can tell), but before you judge ask yourself how you'd feel if your son or daughter was hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver.
They are not "your streets" like you are chanting. Share the road and maybe cyclists will stop getting a bad name and there wont be so many smeared all over the road.
@capturetheory I ride a motorcycle without a helmet, that makes you another spandex-wearing anal re-tententive show-off who likes to ride on dangerous roads just so people will have to swerve to not run over you endangering tens of lives so you can feel the control you were never able to relinquish at potty time...yes, we see your bright, shiny ass..
What pricks. Do they think they own the road? Is this really supposed to make people use bikes because it's making me want to fucking kick bikers over when I see them.
watch sometime there is going to be a pregnant lady or injured person trying to get to the hospital but wont be able to because of these stupid ass bikers
2 years ago....you same MPLS bike fucks with nothing better to do had your little "ride down hennepin blocking all traffic", which ended up blocking traffic far down the road.....which then prevented a FUCKING AMBULANCE from getting to whatever poor dude was in trouble.
irony is car drivers pay for the streets through gas taxes. blocking cars when they have a green light to allow the rest of the riders through is also illegal. it's not the car drivers problem if your little mafia gets split up. i've had friends follow me places in cars and they get cut off by lights and other drivers.. it's the reality of being on the road. bikes don't have more rights than drivers.
If they want to share the road.. why do they chant "our streets'... .they do not want to share the road they want to force cars off the roads they were meant for.
I figured you're from the suburbs. You don't HAVE to live so far. Maybe you should use public transit--make use of those tax dollars! Why wouldn't someone drive if they could afford it, like me? Because I care about the environment, the well being of the city, community, and aesthetics. I get to be outdoors, avoid traffic, and save money. I drive quite often, but whenever possible, I will try to find alternative modes of transportation. You must be a selfish conservative, right? Right.
Haha. I almost ran a bunch of these idiots over one night. They came flying in front of me like they owned the street. Should have a national run over cyclists day. Hate bikers!
The point of this might not be to make more paths, but to make people realize they shouldn't be driving everywhere and perhaps biking is a smarter option that promotes a better city, environment, and community.
Not true. That wasn't the case in this fight. They were upset because they dont have sidewalks to ride on. Only the street. The cyclist are a bunch of idiots and feel as if they own the road. Should run them over or atleast open your door and slam it into them as u drive by. =) Only kidding of course
So it's the motorist fault when they hit a cyclist? Why don't they license and get "bike" insurance so they are legal on the road? I mean. If they dont, why should I have to pay for car insurance and drive on the road?In my eyes. It is very unsafe for cyclist to be on public roadways. Think about it. You have x man lbs of car weight. Compare the difference and tell me if it is safe.
Not only am I looking out for my own ass but I am looking out for cyclist. I wouldn't appreciate driving to work and hurting/killing a cylist just because he thinks he should have the right away to me. Take this into consideration you self centered prick! =) cheers
Yeah bike 50 miles. Intelligent. If people can afford to drive why wouldn't they? Our taxes go into the roads so why not get something out of it? Phillip. Not to be a prick. But your comment is absolutely outrageous!
I figured you're from the suburbs. Why do you have to live so far from work? Maybe you should consider public transit--might as well make use of those tax dollars. If people (like me) can afford to drive, why wouldn't they? Because they care about the environment, the well being of the city, communities, and aesthetics. They care about saving some extra money, being in the outdoors, and avoiding traffic. I drive quite often, but whenever I can, I will find alternative modes of transportation.
You are getting away from the point of this video. The people here are doing something illegal. Don't you understand that? They are in the middle of a street saying, "Whos street...OUR STREET". Now, think about what they are saying and tell me if that is correct. Public roadways set up from automobiles isn't a public roadway for bikes.......Bikes have paths..Correct?? The point of my comments is that bikes can find an alternative way to get around. Not down busy roads putin them at risk...
Juliougo69: NO, NO, NO, you totalitarian, faschistic simpleton racist! Birmingham, AL police academy, class of 66' would have loved to have had you guy.
Randle I suggest that you and your fellow bike travellors try this kind of behavior in a real dictatorship. Try Egypt, Libya, N Korea or Burma. Let us know how it turns out.
MPD rock they take way too much shit. they are some the easiest going cops i ever met.some people just think that cops are only good if they are stopping something like a murder. bottom line police have job and its to keep things in order clogging streets is not orderly and if they ask you to move and you don't then they can arrest you.
WTF is the point? Minneapolis is one of the most bicycle friendly cities in the entire country. I am a cyclist and I ride all over Minneapolis and am speechless when I see this kind of asinine behavior. You want more bike trails? Good luck trying to convince the state to open more parks and build more trails. Stupid shit like this just dooms the whole process.
You know how long it took to open Theo Park?? You think this helps??

Normally I'm not very pro-cop but in cases like this I'd like to see them bust up some shit - not the riders, but their toys.

Okay, maybe there's only one tent in anal-retentive, but you don't have to be living in one to clearly hear they are shouting "OHIO STATE !"
