  • Pocket-sized

  • who produced the tracks on the samples?

  • id love to buy that beat at 2:44

  • I've had mine for about 2months and i'm still learning lol.. but it's pretty cool it's my first drum machine.

  • @natedasaxman24: I hear you so it really depends on your needs. If you want a drum machine with some solid sounds in it already...I hear a lot of cats complaining about the stock MPC sounds, but a used MPC500 is a damn good second option.

  • does the mpc have in built drums? or do you have to sample the drums?

  • i was thinking about getting a refurbished one is tht a good idea?

  • The only reason to choose this unit over an MPC is the included sound set and price.

  • @griffinavid i know this sounds dumb but i forgot how to name the songs and patterns can you help me out?

  • @griffinavid But the MPC is better because you can sample and create your own sounds

  • would this be better than a mpc series for just laying out beats?

  • Does this beat pad work with pro tools and a Mac?

  • The ni maschine looks better...

  • 250 quid for a bunch of presets... buy an mpc 500 for like the same price

  • Seriously, best investment I've ever got. I play drums myself and let alone for the beats and different sounds, looping different audio samples under the "1 shot" category is awesome.

  • No. It has a set bank of very good quality sounds. You cannot add any more and it does not sample. There is no USB or SD or Smart Media Connection. You can MIDI dump using MIDI OX or something similar that will support SYS EX transmissions.

  • Can input my own sounds and make my own samples with the xr 20

  • Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong

  • Aside from the non-answer of "You can make anything with anything, if you process it right" If you can make patterns from scratch than anything will work. Electronic Dance music of all sorts= KORG electribes. Glitch and Stitch= Elektron Drum Machines. For the 'SOUND' of the different genres, I would consider processing the sounds with dirty effect boxes and guitar pedals.

  • what drum machine is linked with techno or industrial?

  • the machine does

  • @floridachris123 ya its pretty easy to use..... ull understand it in the first week

its good for hip hop music if thats wut ur doing... it has memory on it so it doesnt need software

  • Hoska? I thought you were for Numark

  • can u hook it up with fl studio or reason?

  • Drum Machines in 2010 are an antiquated technology, there is simply no reason to own one nowadays. Get a USB pad and sequence it with Reason; start sampling sounds from the internet and do all this for $100 cheap.

Akai has discontinued this product anyway...I presume-

  • @SixOneCynic - XR20 is more than meets the eye. Simple to use, has a steep learning curve to use it WELL. Anyone can just flip something on run through a few presets and make an opinion. XR20 is great for people who want to make beats and not worry about making/organizing samples.

RE: "antiquated technology", I use a Roland JD800 and '84 Sequential Drumtraks 8 bit drum machine along with an XR20 to make my beats. Alot of producers/DJs like Howie B still use drum machines live & in the studio.

  • @SixOneCynic

this has no been discontinued. i just bought one from akai a month ago.

  • cool

  • have i got this wrong, but are u unable to load some jazz samples or whatever in this XR20?

  • @MrBuddaha maybe. in akai site you can't read nothing about that... seems that you can't plug it to your pc to load some samples. but it has an aux input, so it might be able to link with a turntable.

  • the xr20 is pretty dope for composing beats, the drum kits are amazing especially the kicks. This would be a perect combonation with an mpc500,that way u have sick drum loops with whatever sample's ur working with

  • makes you wanna buy it U.U

  • can you use other samples with this mpc cause im thinking about buying one

  • would you get an alesis sr18 or the xr20??

  • hoska can just about sell anything!

  • Can i get my own samples and make them in this?

  • can we do rock beats?

  • jeeze once i get a good amount of money its hard to decide between akai products

  • i suggest buying 2 mpc/mpk's

    1. mpc 1000 (for your main production station

    2. xr20 (makes some dope ass drums, especially for only $300)

  • when i hook this up to a pa would i be able to play my own sound bytes

  • can u sample or make techno instead of hip hop

  • @dudemynameis wow what a stupid comment and fuck tech-no

  • @KanyeisBest815 why fuck techno? I listen to everything even if when I get to producing I'll focus more on a hiphop sound. It takes a lot of skill to make a good techno song.

  • you cant sample, but you can defintiely make techno, its somewhat limited as far as producing a whole song, you need to record it into a computer

  • can i plug that to my cd mixer?

  • how much is that thing?

  • around 300$

  • ok so wait, can i load my own sounds?

  • Hello People ,

Whats is a Good Beatmaking Software for the computer???

  • reason

  • IDIOT!

  • reason 4, fl studio 8., acid, grageband and more

  • fl studio 9.. ;-)

  • does it allow drum and snare loops?

  • you can loop anything you play for as many measures as you want... You can also plug MIDI into and even bend the pitches of the preset synth instruments.. By itself it is an ok station for beats but with a few more instruments(keyboard, guitar etc..) you can really come up with some good stuff.

  • useless compared to the 2000,60,500 & the1000.but it is very portable,

  • Most keyboards can do the same as this - and more. I know a keyboard may be off putting to someone looking to sequence, but it would be more cost effective.

I want the MPC 1000, but the price seems very high.

  • you can make beats on this while taking a dump with the 6 aa batteries..

can't do that with an mpc 1000...

i tried, power cord wouldn't reach

joking yal'l joking but 4 real you could lol

even though can't add more samples, the included kits are great and you can edit them

  • can do it with the mpc 500 though

  • Just like the BOSS DR!

  • i cant wait to get mine im getting it in a week or two

  • i want to buy this machine just for drums but im not sure if its good or not and how do i export the song or can i just loop the drums and put it on cubase or another senquencer to mix and add like vsti and stuff???

  • it has no usb out ... so youd have to solo and bounce each instrument to a track and then line them up with the preroll click. pretty annoying.. idk if I need the hassle.

  • Can i upload diff. Wav files on here

  • Anyone interested in this should probably buy a used mpc 1000 instead. It is just a lot more versatile. It's really easy to load premade samples, especially with a USB cable and you have the option of making your own samples, instead of being confined to presets. The XR20 is a good drum machine, but you can't really make a whole track on it like you can on an mpc.

  • who would want to make a whole track on it ? If i was to buy a drum machine it would be just for that,... drums.

  • @Dazbo10 try telling that to robert linn

  • if your poor like me you wanna do a whole track on that

  • Just orded mine.. can´t WAIT :D:D:D:D

  • m getting it 2morrow

  • Just hit the preset button again and youll be in user. You have to be in user to record

  • whenever i try to record it says record preset. can someone hook me up with a step by step?

  • Can this device make a full beat for a song? Or is it just for stage performance?

  • its made for a full song, not really for stage effects

  • i jus got one but i cant figure out how to hood it up

  • I have this..but I cant figure out how to record my sounds..when i press record it says can record preset...someone plz tell me how

  • U PRESS PLAY AND REC. AT THE SAME TIME..

  • i have the same problem.. did you figure it out?

  • thats it im getting the xr20

  • can i use it as a controller like the mpd24 or mpd32, when i use the midi-out port?

(sry for my english..i am german)

  • yeah you can.

  • does it cook my lunch

  • just wondering do u have to buy speakers for this or they built in?

  • they require speakers, but you can simply use headphones

  • you have to buy speakers

  • Does it have the same rock steady timing of the MPC?

  • I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of this? Why is Akai trying to make a stand alone drum machine? i mean... presets... gross.. my vote... Epic Fail on akai's part. Stick to the MPC line, you've let a lot go there already, you works' cut out to get it back to the good old days. :)

  • just cus you cant afford one

  • so is it royalty free?so im wondering if you would have to call it a mix-tape if you used the beats on it,or do you make your own beats

  • remind me of the DDR but on steroids.... Ill definitely get this!!!

  • reminds me of the XR10 + 20 years!

  • I don't know where everyone is getting their price conversions, but the US price for this thing will be under $300, it's going to be listed as $299-which IMO is a great price for what it does.

  • It kind of sucks that it can't import custom samples though... it's not a sampler, but a drum-machine.

  • how do u put instruments n soundz n shit onnit??

  • You can't. That's what I don't like about this machine. For the price range, buy a used MPC500.

  • "And you can customize your drum kit so you are not limited to what the preset sounds are" I'm pretty sure that means you can import sounds

  • Nah you can't import sounds. You can customize what's already in the machine. You know pan, volume, effects etc.

  • shouldnt this be called a BPC??

  • its 300

  • that guy is full of bull its 199 pounds so is gunna be like 150 usa dick he just want people to buy a esx the emx is better

  • It is $500.Usually US prices are double the price in sterling not less.I think it's on sale but still..

  • its 199$ us.

  • This is $500, you could buy a new kork ESX-1 for that, and not only change the preset sounds, but sample your own sounds into the box. You can even record real time knob movements, this is for someone who wants a mpc but cannot afford it. I would rather buy a roland sp-404 or boss sp-303.

  • 500USD? Seriously?

You could get a LOT of things on the used market that would smoke this thing for that kind of money, from a used MPC to a rack sampler+sequencer to workstation synths. Akai is nuts if this is priced 500USD street.

  • I was just at sweetwater, and it says there only $279? I still would rather buy a 303 though

  • This thing is $500 bucks, for that you could buy a Korg ESX-1 NEW and not only change the preset sounds, but sample your own sounds into the groovebox. You could also buy a boss sp-303 for $200 + on ebay and do the same things.

  • yes finally a vid on this

  • Cool. How much?

  • 279 on turntable lab
