Looks like a nice place to work. I think you have to see through all the social engineering though - as I learnt in my engineering degree when you have many intelligent, bright individuals in a confined space the temperature rises (ideal gas law); this is the key to Google's success!!!

They're an amazing place to work if you have the right mindset (Very excited about computers and advancing them) and really love solving difficult problems. If you're not too keen on those, perhaps CS isn't your field in the first place...

I'm not sure but its seems like the google office is like a campus in a way, big enough for people to live in and around if they want. So technically yes, they DO spend all their time AT work, but not DOING work. They probably have goals they have to reach within a certain timeperiod and they get flexible hours probably. They many might have 9 to 5 jobs like everyone else.

@manns101101 I went to the office in NY, it was awesome. They used scooters to travel around the hallways and had an xbox set up and massage chairs. Basically from what I understand, they don't have real hours, just final deadlines for things. But seriously why would you not be motivated by the amount of effort they put into keeping you happy? How come yahoo mail is so much cleaner and

friendly than gmail? For instance, Gmail has no notepad, which is a nice, simple 2-level set of folders and notes on yahoo. And gmail has no easy set of folders to organize your mail messages, as yahoo does. (I do like the "back to inbox" which is instantaneous on gmail, though.)

You have a good point, Yahoo has made incredible progress on their email over the last few years, I think as a result of the added pressure from Gmail. Also, gmail has Labels rather than folder, but they essentially work the same way. You create and apply a label to your email, then hit the archive button. You can later find those emails by clicking on its label in the sidebar.
