In my opinion this is sadder then when Aries died as I child I never really knew who my father was he must have been a great man he left me too soon odd I too think cause i was 7 at the time,This scene always brings me too tears
I still get the chills :(, everytime i watch this, the story is so beautiful and the song fits perfectly to the moment. I'm so damn happy that my father bought me this game back when i was 7 years old and i still play it today as 21 year old
I understand it's a different company now, and majority of the personnel left after 9, but seriously, how can they go from making masterpieces to making literal shit? It makes no sense to me. People who claim video games can't be art have no fucking clue what they're on about. FF7 is the perfect example.
@Nadrim FF has been pretty bad since console had the capacity for complex graphics and voice actors.
What an amazing scene, I had forgotten it but this was really powerful. The little touches like the way Aeris turns back to Red for one more look up at him is remarkable. I wish sorely that they never make another FF VII and ruin it.
@tombobzine As soon as they added voiced dialogue and took away turn based combat, it ceased to be Final Fantasy any more. They should rename the new games, because they are not part of the same series that had VI, VII, VIII and IX. I think the three perfect scenes in FFVII, would be this, the flashback of Tifa and Cloud on Mount Nibel, when her mum dies, and obviously, Aerith's death. And I concur - I'd hate for a remake. I hate all the spin-offs, too. They ruin the original.
It's games like this that remind us that graphics are not the most important thing about a video game. Newer games with better graphics can't cause one to be moved and have watery eyes like this one can.
Im sick of people saying this game hasnt withstood the test of time, and that the graphics suck. im sorry but if a plot is good the graphics should be secondary. im replaying this game now for the 2nd time im a 27 year old woman, and i cried during this scene. beautiful scene, beautiful music. people can say what they want about this game, but to me the plot & characters touched my heart. amazing game. i also love many of the older ff games, even liked the new ff heroin, too many battles tho.
It's making me sad that younger players don't like games like final fantasy VII because the graphics 'suck'.
I first played it when I was 11 or 12, now I am 23 and it is still my favourite game and watching this scene now made me cry. it's just so... perfect. the whole game means so much to me. I grew up with it
I wish Final Fantasy would stop sucking and start being awesome again. I love these kinds of scenes from the old games. FF6/7 in particular were very moving, and I miss the stories oh so much.
Just thinking about the new generation of gamers that think Final Fantasy XIII is the greatest Final Fantasy ever, angers me. Knowing that they will likely never experience a moment in games as beautifully done as this. Video games shouldn't be all about graphics and voice acting.
@havenwood29 Then you have the RPG snobs. Final Fantasy 7 is the greatest FF. There's a lot of people who would argue that it isn't. Of the group who would argue that FF7 isnt the greatest in the series, or is overrated, I'd bet that only a handful are giving their honest opinion while the rest are making that claim because FF7 really is the greatest in the series, but they think it's "cool" to like one of the lesser played installments like Tactics or FF5.
@StuUngar FF5 has probably a much better and more creative battle system than the materia system where you can just grind with those materias and use em with your best characters. Least in ff5 you can drum up a strategy with the classes you selected.
@EPOCHdevelopment I think Gau's dad is a really sad story in FF6. As well as Locke and Rachel hidden story scenes. Shadow and Relm's dreams. I swear FF6 is by far the greatest story ever made. Cyan and the loss of his family, it really goes on and on. So many tragedies and hardships to experience. Anyone who hasn't played FF6 should really try it. But for all the sadness, there is also just great stories of triumph.
@NY1love It is amazing. I don't know about you, but once they started giving voices to the characters it became really difficult to invest in some of the more poignant moments. I mean, the sadest moment in FFX (for me at least) was the moment that Auron says "I changed nothing. That's my story." and then they don't speak. There's a long period of silence where you're allowed to imagine what the characters are thinking. The rest of the time you've got Tidus chatting whiny shit over everything.
FF 7 fanboys have such a narrow prspective. the turn base fights are boring and have no action in them. ff 7 looks like crap(even when it orginally realesed) cut scences are not the games graphics nor are the pre render background you cant even interact with that background cause its 2d. ff7s story and characters were compared to other games crap. so ff7 fanboys admit it, get, over it, that slap yourself 1 time for every ridiculous claim youve made about ff7 being 1 of the best games ever
Now I...want to see this all redone on the Crystal engine. What I liked about it was; that we had very cinematic camera angles on characters. Imagine this scene and Cid's past all run on Crystal!
@GodwinCarpenter The scene where he's finally going to fly to outer space, but ends up giving up the dream to save Shera. I guess I'm pretty much alone with this, but I feel horribly bad for Cid when he aborts the launch and pretty much crushes his dreams by his own hands. The music in that scene is amazing too.
That was the first time he called himself Nanaki...the first time he acknowledged himself as the son of Seto. One of the best scenes ever in Final Fantasy...the tears of Seto were indescribable =\
I'm liking this Bugenhagen. It's been so long since I last played, I forgot all about Grandpa! Sometimes I forget Red is only 16 in human age. hahahaha
What happend to Final Fantasy? since Squaresoft is working together with enix its not the same Final Fantasy anymore. i think this era ended with FF10. I like 12 and 13, but not compareble to the older ones! I love this scene, I love Final Fantasy 7. Best Game ever. Still makes me cry. Best Story ever. Bring it to PS3, it would be EPIC. Final Fantasy 7 rules. Forever!
Fuck the death of Aeries. (Seriously, you're only losing a healer with a personality of...wait, make that NO personality, that is easily replaced.) THIS scene is the games real tear-jerker.
Easily the most powerful, heart and soul touching moment I have experienced, besides bugenhagen's death speech, which isn't as powerful but most defintely deserves second place. Never have I played a game with such an amazing story, likable characters, epic music, and awesome gameplay. To all developers, MAKE GAMES IN WICH YOU FIND A MEANING AND DEEPER STORY! It would make the world so much more awesome.
Best FF game ever made all the characters stories are on the level of this one but this is by far the saddest one I cried for Seto he gave his life for the canyon and his son never got to meet him so when he sees him be proud of him he cries while in stone EPICNESS
@dogsbone07 Seriousy lads, it's grand reminiscing on how beautiful and emotional this and indeed much of ff7 was... but for the love of god, please stay away from the remake discussion. i just watched that tech demo again. sob sob waaaaaaahhhhh waaaaaaahhh such a sad scene it always makes me cry when setos tears drop and red howls there's no words for how beutiful this scene is 999999999999999999999999999999Stars this deserves a bafta award
@rak000 I agree, its moving what his father character did. Having thought his father was a coward, it is moving to hear that his father single handedly saved them all.
One of the best things about this scene was the fact that you couldn't really see it coming. When you go through the cave you're not expecting something this touching to happen. This was definitely Red XIII's finest moment. One of the most memorable and touching scenes from any game, or movie, to me.
This is such a strong scene, when his father cried and he howled, so many things triggered in my mind, it bought back so many memories and it just makes me think about the world.
Most don't understand how epic this game is, and like to call it overrated. But in the late 90's there was absolutely nothing like this, it blew our minds and I couldn't stop playing it. 1997, a memorable year.
Amazing scene, amazing game, legendary story. Like many others, this was my first introduction to the final fantasy series growing up. When I finished it, I felt like all of the characters were a part of me...and I still do... This will always be my favorite game of all time.
Honestly if you ask me, this part is more tear jerking then when Aeris (or Aerith, whichever you wanna call her) was stabbed by sephiroth cuz clearly she had it completely comming, this part was more of a surprise to me.

No (again)
I'm pretty damn sure he's 17 in human years....Red 13 tells bugenhagen that he's 48..... then Bugenhagen (god thats a retarded name) says that would be equivilent to a 14-16 year old in human years....it has to be that way because his natural life span is ridiculously long so if he's like 100 in his years he has to be 30-something in human years....
@XGiftedGamerX Correct, and it is further reinforced in the "500 years later" scene after the end credits... when Nanaki takes his cubs to see Midgar.
Gah...with his tail blazing and... gah... impossible to keep it together. Too powerful
One of the most memorable, and dramatic moments in FF7. You can't really feel the emotion from the scene unless you understand it though. Still, I felt it, and it's very moving.

and after this game square made a joke named ffVIIIthis game made me cry................MY MONEYYYYYYYYY STEALERRRRRRRRRRRR ffVIII was such a stupid game no story, no background just an ugly previsible love story like we see everyday on tv square made 10000000 steps backwards with ffVIII ouch I throwed all the cds by my windows and put ffVII in a solid box where it still right now
Waow easy boy! okay ffVIII is far beyond his predecessor but still i'd rather play it than lots of other games called "RPGs" it does have its part of magic and even if nearly all the characters are lame, it's telling us well the story of some hardcore sociopath dealing with obligations and feelings he can not bear.
I agree with both of you, 7 was by far the most intricate, and Hard hitting, But 8 Brings Reality (minus some finer points) And If I had the choice, I would play both at the same time. 8 was far better in alot of ways, But 7 tops the charts on everything else.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
FF VIII is far from being a joke. The game is awesome and its soundtrack beats VII's any day. It's true they made some stuff bit too complicated, but the story is fine. You probably just didn't get it the way it was meant.
Anyway, this scene is my favorite from FF VII, and the only one that actually moved me. Awesome.
i still get goosebumps when i here that music! so mnay years ago it was that i played that game! 1997! the years pass so quickly. those moments in the game were inspiring. ffvii shall always have a place in my memory.
I can always feel the tears starting to brew when the drums kick in ( 1:05 )

This is the best moment in any Final Fantasy ever.
Final Fantasy VII was really something special, it's a game of epic proportions. Square at it's finest.

i just got goosebumps when redXIII started howling.

@rak000 True that, man.
This scene is fucking nails! Absolutely love it. I'm auditioning for Nanaki for a fandub, and i'm using this scene!
IAmTheSecretOfMana 1 year ago
@rak000 I agree, its moving what his father character did. Having thought his father was a coward, it is moving to hear that his father single handedly saved them all.

RedXII rocks in FF7 lol I always use him in clouds party with Tifa xD
jaysds123 2 years ago 2
One of the best things about this scene was the fact that you couldn't really see it coming. When you go through the cave you're not expecting something this touching to happen. This was definitely Red XIII's finest moment. One of the most memorable and touching scenes from any game, or movie, to me.

if they made a game on red 13, this would be the equivalent to Aerith's theme. I wish they would have emphasized his story more.

sooo sad :(....a masterpiece
Exlemic 2 years ago 4
This probably one of the strongest scene in the game,a sinner facing a guilt.FF7 was much more than a game.
Wenneseph 2 years ago 5
This scene touched more alot. Aeris' death wasn't sad to me, though.

This is such a strong scene, when his father cried and he howled, so many things triggered in my mind, it bought back so many memories and it just makes me think about the world.

FINAL FANTASY MOTHERFUCKING VII!!!!!!
Most don't understand how epic this game is, and like to call it overrated. But in the late 90's there was absolutely nothing like this, it blew our minds and I couldn't stop playing it. 1997, a memorable year.
MaliceNMyHeart 2 years ago
To me, this was sadder than Aeris's death. Especialy seeing his father cry like that
HiralShah00 2 years ago 43
Amazing scene, amazing game, legendary story. Like many others, this was my first introduction to the final fantasy series growing up. When I finished it, I felt like all of the characters were a part of me...and I still do... This will always be my favorite game of all time.

Honestly if you ask me, this part is more tear jerking then when Aeris (or Aerith, whichever you wanna call her) was stabbed by sephiroth cuz clearly she had it completely comming, this part was more of a surprise to me.

and morons still ask why this is the best game of our time! Need you see more!?

One thing that confuses me is this question:
Is Nanaki a kid or adult?
Cause he's supposively 40 or so but in human years he's like 10.....In Advent Children he sounded way too weird than I expected.
I thought he would have...at least a 17 year old voice or something.... but I just don't know.
XGiftedGamerX 2 years ago
He's a kid.
He's like 30/40 or something in human years, but only 17 or whatever in his species' years.
Lydeck 2 years ago
Then you mean the other way around....
He's 17 in human years but 48 in his race years....
XGiftedGamerX 2 years ago
No.
In the game, Bugenhagen says that he's 30 or 40 (can't remember which) in human years, but only 17 by his species life span - still a child.
I just played through the game again this week, so it's fresh in my mind.
Lydeck 2 years ago

XGiftedGamerX 2 years ago
It amazes me people will continue to argue an incorrect point like this. Youre on the internet, google it yourself, you are wrong.
CTatties 2 years ago
@XGiftedGamerX Correct, and it is further reinforced in the "500 years later" scene after the end credits... when Nanaki takes his cubs to see Midgar.
Gah...with his tail blazing and... gah... impossible to keep it together. Too powerful

One of the most memorable, and dramatic moments in FF7. You can't really feel the emotion from the scene unless you understand it though. Still, I felt it, and it's very moving.

When I first played it, I didn't understand it really (ok, I was 9 years old...:D )

and after this game square made a joke named ffVIIIthis game made me cry................MY MONEYYYYYYYYY STEALERRRRRRRRRRRR ffVIII was such a stupid game no story, no background just an ugly previsible love story like we see everyday on tv square made 10000000 steps backwards with ffVIII ouch I throwed all the cds by my windows and put ffVII in a solid box where it still right now
thesniper321 3 years ago
Waow easy boy! okay ffVIII is far beyond his predecessor but still i'd rather play it than lots of other games called "RPGs" it does have its part of magic and even if nearly all the characters are lame, it's telling us well the story of some hardcore sociopath dealing with obligations and feelings he can not bear.
boulbiguts 3 years ago
I agree with both of you, 7 was by far the most intricate, and Hard hitting, But 8 Brings Reality (minus some finer points) And If I had the choice, I would play both at the same time. 8 was far better in alot of ways, But 7 tops the charts on everything else.
