FEA = finite element analysis. You can calculate the stresses in something if you break it up into "finite" elements, like structure lines. Each is assigned an equation to calculate the stress in it when a load is applied to the CAD model. The computer runs those little element calulations to arrive at a solution for the overall part.

It shows up in computer plots often with colors that indicate higher and lower stresses. Ie: red = higher, blue = lower.
