Government programs tend to help people in poverty, but non-government organizations are more able/willing to help get people out of poverty, because politicians stand to benefit by having people dependent on the government.
For every one of the problems you listed, there's non-government organizations that are run (per statistics) in large part by conservatives who see helping neighbors as a personal responsibility, not something to be outsourced to the government and paid for by taxes collected by threatening people with jail if they don't pay them.
Conservatives pay their taxes that pay for government programs that fail at pulling people out of poverty, AND also give their time and money to causes that succeed.

Here in Colorado, Buck's state, we're adopting kids out of foster care (the kids you think should have been killed to alleviate possible increases in prison budgets) - we're adopting them so fast there's less than 1/2 now waiting to be adopted than there were 4 years ago.

@bibleword where are the bible thumpers when it comes to educating the child? clothing the child,feeding the child.they sure as a whole dont want to pay taxes to do so.they dont want to help with sex education .what oh what do bible nuts to to prevent or help with the so called pro life issue? for one they cry cry cry about health care costs for the mom or child.is that willfull neglect on bible thumpers part?neglect on educating,feeding,clothing society bible or otherwise runs away , abuse huh

We're volunteering at inner-city after-school tutoring programs like Crossroads of the Rockies in Denver.

Conservatives and the religious give far more money to help in these things voluntarily as compared to liberals and non-religious. You need taxes to force the money out of your hands, we give it freely.

@Unhindered i apreciate the educating you do.but what of helping people and the children that live below the poverty line.what of military famalies that are serving,many qualfy for food stamps.what of returning vets that are jobless,what of senior citizens that cant afford medicine and heat at the same time.what of schools that have text books 30 years old .conservatives and bible thumpers do this and more ? yet there are far more things that need your time and money.are u wearing blinders??

@jmrail Back to my educating: You do not understand what "liberal" means, or "conservative."
Conservative values are those of limits on the government and emphasis on the importance of the individual Liberal values are those of limits on individuals and the importance of the government.
If you read the Declaration of Independence from King George, you'll see it is the basis of conservatism today, not liberalism.
A greater percent of Republicans voted for civil rights than Democrats...

The civil rights act had around 15-20% more support among Republicans, and moreover the Dems were the party of Southern slavery. They still are in a way, trying to condition blacks into thinking that they can't stand on their own two feet...like Chris Matthews: "I can't believe he's BLACK!"

@jmrail He's going to get us there if we let him. What about those banks bailouts (yes, with strings)... Tim Geithner recently suggested that the administration might not allow the banks to pay back the money, forcing them to keep it. But of course, you don't belie that there is any hint of nationalization because you are so in the dark that you don't know about the strings...
People are fed up with Obama's actions and those who blindly blame the right for what he does, like Obama himself.

@jmrail As conservatives stand for individual rights, anyone who marked with MLK fighting for individual's rights was a conservative.
Others who marched may have been marching for rights of others to be taken away. These would be liberal reasons.
A fundamental lack of knowledge about what conservatism is will lead to fundamental misunderstandings and misinterpretations of history.

@jmrail It seems you define "liberal" as "everything good" and "conservative" as "everything bad."
When you see the world that way, of course you think conservatives have never done any good. By your own definitions, it's impossible.
In reality, however, conservatives stand for individual rights and responsibilities that should not be infringed on by any government or other individuals. Conservative ideology is what led to the revolutionary war, civil rights, and the rights we enjoy today.
