Regarding the opinion of the kiss not looking natural and just looking like she pressed her face to his and all, I believe that to be the point. Ada, was a very modest woman and in those times a ''wholesome girl'' was never overtly sexual in any way. Just read up about the restraints women went through during those times. Chaperones were always a must. So, I believe the kiss is perfect in this scene to relate to the time.

Throughout the movie you see how war has effected not just the men who are first excited about it but women/babes. The torture Edmund went through to get back to his love is so touching especially since if he hadn't returned they would all be dead. Their love making produced a child and although not married by any religious institution I told my daughter that love seals their hearts more then some religious leader speaking words over them. Love and commitment, devotion this country needs it..
