This was a great series. The only thing I found disappointing at the time was that after the '08 Cup, Detroit's fans were super cool saying the Pens were a great young team, the team of the future, and that Pens fans should be proud and looking forward to upcoming seasons. I thought that was cool. But when the Pens won in '09 those same people were whining and badmouthing the Pens. I was very surprised and disappointed by that. It's important to be gracious in victory as well as defeat...IMO

I'm a Pens fan ... and hopefully Pens and Wings fans alike can agree on one thing if nothing else: the '08 and '09 Finals were two of the most entertaining playoff series to every occur in the history of the NHL. It's turned into a pretty awesome rivalry now because even their 1 or 2 regular season meetings are treated like a playoff game.

I don't understand why people pin the pushed up schedule on the Pens. That's on NBC because their contract has the league by the balls since they don't pay the NHL a broadcasting fee, and hockey is low on their scheduling priority. If the Wings had beaten the Hawks in 6 or the Pens had not swept Carolina, it would have been pushed back over a week, which was also pretty fucked up. NBC's coverage is terrible in the first place and I'm disappointed the NHL is extending their contract with them.

I think their reasoning was TV ratings and fear of losing public interest -- the NFL and the Superbowl can get away from a long layoff between games. Hockey, not as much. But I do agree with you, the league needing to grow some balls and not let executives dictate scheduling.

btw: I think both teams will do well in next years' playoffs, although them meeting in the final once again may be a bit of a long-shot. Still, this isn't the end of the rivalry, and it makes for some good hockey. ;)

Pittsburgh just wanted it more. It's just odd how they won on the road in game seven, like Detroit won on the road in game six a year ago. For both teams to make it back is a testament to just how great both are.
