  • this song is the reason why elbow is always my favorite.

  • ah powder blue! i remember signing this to my girl, and she fell in love with me. i told her, thank elbow, for being the greatest band in the world.

i have only these guys to thank for helping me fall in love, and i plan on shaking guy garveys hand for it. : )

  • i hear you pal.

  • I fell in love with my husband when he played me this on the guitar, it was our wedding song!

  • I think it's the song called Grounds for Divorce

  • Grounds for Divorce

  • one day like this maybe

  • mmmmmmm very good . . . . . . .yes?

  • very yes.

  • it looks like the man on top of the pole is the smae actor who is sitting at the bar in the video of Grounds for Divorce

  • Can somebody explain to me how that guy got tangled up in a power line? So they crashed into the power line and somehow got tangled up in it.

  • not everything has to have a rational explanation

  • definitly the best band on earth

  • I think the man on the ground and the man on the pole are supposed to be the same people. As he walks away from the wreck, each pole is a future relationship.

  • Still one of the most fantastic videos ever made. Still not quite certain what's going on but it doesn't matter. If you'll notice at 3:55, there's a couple on every pole....

  • Does any one know what this is about?

  • Here's my latest interpretation of this video:

    "We are fuckin wrecked!"

"Yeah... you wanna get high anyway?"

    "Way ahead of you"

  • Achingly beautiful, astonishingly simple, awesomely melancholic and just bloody stupendous!!

  • you can hurt me if this seems n00by, but are they using the same people in there videos?

  • Comment removed

  • these comments are all reely long XD

  • great band. great song. good arrangement.

    good video....

    a bit like the thindersticks..

  • Fasntastic! I got into the seldom seen kid and fell in love with it, Its funny because to me the whole album is about falling in love! and you wonder why didnt I see it before??

Great music! and Guy has one of the most honest voices I have ever heard.

  • i love elbow, have met them after the shows a few times :) top guys.

love this song, yes i like the new album but it wont beat combo of alseep in the back and obv the leaders of the free world

  • Best Elbow songs i think were off their more recent albums like the seldom seen Kid my favourite song of elbows is audience with the pope

  • The Fix is the tune that really got my attention for some reason

  • I like only "Grounds for Divorce"

its the best Elbow song in my opinion.

  • Elbow have been around since the mid 90's but were just releasing EPs but their first Album release was in 2001 (Asleep in the Back) Guy's voice is truly amazing and unique! When a vocalist can make the listener really believe what they are saying? that is true talent!! and Guys got bucket loads!!

  • Yo, how long has this band been out, they are definitely official.

  • Elbow is the perfect band for people like me who love Radiohead but hate Thom Yorke's voice.

  • Well, I love Radiohead and Thom's voice, and I love Elbow. :)

  • I respect that, to each his own. It's like, Rush would be my favorite band in the world if I liked Geddy Lee's voice, which I don't. So I just "really like" Rush rather than love them.

  • Yes I understand, good singers have an instant connection with some people but even the best rub others the wrong way, its simply taste which is really uncontrollable.

Elbow's singer sings a real catchy, emotional style, and I hear the same in Thom just with a different voice and motivation, if that makes sense at all.

  • No, that actually makes perfect sense. When I was in college, I used to listen and buy music according to what critics and others thought. Now I just listen to what feels right to me. I'll listen to a top-40 song if there is really soulful singing.

  • I'm in college now but same here. Though I tend to discover a lot more music that I like anywhere else but the top-40 heheh. For example I saw in DJ Shadow's The Private Press album a lot of the emotion, disparity, and catchiness that I like in many Radiohead tunes.

But yeah, critics tend to ignore the fact that everybody has different taste, and friends are always in a rush to force me their music because they want someone else to love what they love.

  • Sometimes though albums can be growers I think, there's bands I originally hated cos of the hype surrounding them and I found trying to understand where an artist is coming from can make you see their music from another perspective.

  • well Charlieattic my fave bands are Rush and Radiohead, and I couldn't imagine them without Geddy or Thom. I guess u just dont like higher voices maybe. I never thought I would see both bands mentioned in the same statement though lol. If you dont like the voices though, what exactly do u like about each band?

  • Well, I love their music and musicianship. But voice is very important to me, and it either hits my on a basic gut level or not.

  • I only have one problem with this, why the hell haven't I heard of this band before? They're incredible.

  • Oh Lordy do I feel stupid. It isnt Powder blue it's 'Bisbee Blue'

  • Calexico have a song called Powder Blue as well. I'm pretty sure they do anyway.

  • I can't believe it took me so long to discover this band. I can't wait to see them in March...

  • Aw, I love Elbow. ^^ I need to save up to get some more of their albums.

  • I love this song. It helps me to relax! :D

  • Another great band, might not get the recognition they deserve now, but believe me in years to come people will look back and realise how good they are.

  • without a doubt..time will tell!!!

  • i fuckin love this band. they r instant legends. a band like this reminds me y i hate the arctic monkeys so much. brilliant elbow

  • This is that kind of band that comes along every once in a thousand years.

  • yet they are only just barely getting appreciation. its so wrong. they have been amazing for years.

  • thank god.

  • if anyone doesn't like elbow don't take them seriously. they obv don't know anything. friend of ours is genious

  • Correct more shame them...Dam the Pop Idol crap polluting young minds. This is music for connoisseurs. Like fine wine gets better the longer you you give it air

  • one of my favorite bands of all time.

a band that can relax you to sleep and on other songs blow your fuckin head off.

  • The sax at 3:39 is the single most amazing note I've ever heard

  • Guy Garvey just writes the most heartfelt lyrics. I adore the man. Gorgeous stuff.

There seems to be a song on all of their albums that brings me to tears.

  • This is the sort of band critics love but the public take years to appreciate.

  • when i first saw the left4dead commerical, i was like oh shit, its that song! that song that burns in my heart like a thousand suns! its grounds for divorce!

  • Yes, im one of the many that started because of the L4D commercial...personally after listening to this and The Bones of You, i compare them to Queens of the Stone Age. They just kinda give me that feel. I dunno if its just because i just spent the last month or so listening to QOTSA exclusively (if it is please tell me, if not yay), but yea...(btw i don't kno sht about pink floyd, nor do i feel like finding out)

  • One day my friend you will hear Pink floyd and you will be hooked, its happened to millions on every continent on the planet, you may need to grow up a bit though, its maybe still a bit above you yet.

Im sure you will get it someday, they are quite simply the biggest and best band the planet has ever seen and heard and darkside of the moon is a masterpiece which will be listened to long after the supposed supergroups have dissapeared into the mists of time.

  • Wise words! Happened to me last year. Phenomenal. Ever heard of Doves?

  • I have no idea what any of that was about. Well nothing cohesive i could put into words haha.

  • Ive been listening to Elbow for a while now and they are really growing on me, i think comparing them to radiohead is a mistake and comparing anyone at all to Pink Floyd is just being silly.

Self indulgent ,of course they are , they are Pink Floyd for fuck sake.............

  • Elbow: Music for the head and heart.

    Love it. me too :)

  • damn thats a good song! After listening to radiohead mainly for well over a year, every other band just seemed soo shitty and dull by comparison. I learned about this band after they recently won the Mercury prize, and I really am starting to like them :)

  • My favourite ever song. Great video too.

  • make that masterpiece

  • What a mesmerising, shimmering, ethereal masterpeice...... my heart is going to explode...

  • In despair or incoherent nothing in between, what a powerful lyric

  • Elbow: Music for the head and heart.

    Love it.

  • always liked elbow--even moreso after hearing them do a cover of black sabbath's wizard on radio one's live lounge for mark radcliffe.

  • They played this Monday night in Cambridge. YES!! The first gig of the tour post-Mercury award and they're still the same sweet, humble bunch of lads. Guy Garvey even stopped a song at one point to check someone in the crowd was ok-'Are you alright kid?'. I just adore them!

  • I was there as well !! What a night ........when he said " we know we are amongst friends"

  • very jealous they played this for you. We went to the gig last night in Wolverhampton which was great but they didn't play this or my other favourite Red. Never mind :)

  • Elbow and Radiohead both make beautiful music, but I feel the motivation behind what they both do is their main difference. Thom Yorke's more of your experimental, skinny, slightly weird student emo type who ventures into musical extremes which can people uncomfortable. Garvey's more of your solid, chunky, reliable, smoke and a pint down the pub man whose music and lyrics mostly lament over lost love and friendship. I suppose Elbow come across as more down to earth with their approach really.

  • well-put pollypet, thankyou!, i was trying to get that across the other week but had a momentary lapse and suffered a blockage of articulation..hehe!

  • Watch 'Scotch Mist' it is Radiohead playing all of 'In Rainbows' live on New Years Eve, it is simply mindblowing

  • I love both Elbow and Radiohead but please stop comparing them. It's futile, because they both have such different approaches and ambitions.

I would have been happy had either of them won the Mercury, but to be honest SSC is the album I've listened to more.

  • I love elbow, but the people saying 'way better than radiohead', elbow would laugh at that, so why you should believe it im not sure

  • Baffles me why slappedcheek gets negative comments for clearly stating the obvious!. I bought Radioheads 1st 4 albums but i can relate to Elbow much more, dunno if it's cos im from down the road where they're from, so maybe on a personal level the music and lyrics seem that little bit more meaningful, not to mention dopamine-enducing...peace.

  • Elbow are flipping great but better than radiohead?? i think not.. and if you say that about radioheads lyrics then you then you obviously havnt been listning.

  • popkorn2266, i don't understand your comment, i never commented on Radioheads lyrics!, i really like radiohead ( seeing as i have their 1st 4 albums as stated in my 1st comment i would have thought that could imply i was a fan..? )I actually commented on Elbow meaning more to me personally, so yes, i have been listening, it you who obviously haven't been looking. You think RD are better...that's fine, i think they are both great bands, just do different things for me on different levels. peace.

  • i sorta get where your coming from; i think you prefer melody to one another but you cant really compare lyrics tbh

  • cheers Aimee, yeah you're right. I'm in "the cube" right now and drifting away with a big glass of plonk.....aaaaahhhhhh.....

  • Stunning, simply stunning

  • Real good song.

One of my favorites of all time.

  • better than radiohead is simply a lie

though they are a good band

  • oh dear better than radio head? way better? penis

  • Amazing and beautiful tune!

  • they won ;)

  • Elbow...= amazing

  • i agree........way better than radiohead..............seldom seen kid is their best album.............hope they win the mercury music pize tonight..............guy writes the most excellent lyrics

and the music is to melt to

  • i agree

    better than radiohead

radiohead are the wrong side of self-indulgent

    elbow are just brilliant

  • Radiohead's music is more dissonant, more striking to listen to, whereas Elbow's music works it's way into your psyche quite beautifully. It's all down to backgrounds - I'd assume that none of Elbow have been to the depths of depression Yorke has faced and so the music stirs you in a different way. But please, Radiohead self-indulgent? Some say the same about Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' and yet it's an amazing, moving piece of work.

  • i guess its down to opinion

i find most pink floyd has three minutes of a great song, but too much, basically, self indulgent padding out the rest

but then im not into that kind of thing, but i can see why others are

agree with you about the differences between the two bands though, elbow are definitely a band that you have to really listen to to fall in love with them, but they're amazing :)

  • To be honest what makes these two bands(most notably Radiohead) is that they refuse to trap themselves inside one style, hey if you dont believe me just listen to Just and then Pyramid Song by Radiohead and youll see what i mean

  • That's true... very difficult to do without alienating your fan base! (which in part they have, come to think of it) It would be great if there were more bands around like Elbow. I really can't stand listening to the same old pigeonholed, emotionless music that gets churned out!

  • Unreal. That brass part at the end just blew my mind!

  • a truly emotional song, does anyone know where this video was shot? I need to get into Elbow, similar to the Doves in sound but with dark messages in their lyrics.

  • decent song.

  • Conveys the use of heroin perfectly in a song!

  • Love it. Gonna see them at Picnic in 2 weeks :)

  • I've loved this band since hearing "Forget Myself". I'm very glad to see they've finally started to gain more commercial success with "The Seldom Seen Kid" - they deserve it. One of the greatest and underrated bands of all time.

  • WOW!!!!!

  • i know, right? i heard grounds for divorce by them and decided to look up some other songs. this was one of them and i'd have to say i'm hooked now.

    amazing song

  • twilson: That's how I got hooked too.

Thank you 'Burn After Reading'. ;)

  • just beautiful really.

  • perfect.

  • Chanson magnifique, les paroles, la musique...

    Elle me donne des frissons.

  • what a very sad song i'm reading the words above guessing its about drugs???

  • for me its "forget myself".. but this is a fav of mine 2

  • just found out About this band about 3 hrs ago..and I to bow to elbow. amazing amazing feeling in just 1 song. looking forward to finding out more about them. rock on ELBOW

  • didn't knew it's possible to put that much feeling in a song... I bow low to you Elbow

  • could you write the words of the song?

  • Your eyes are just like black spiders, your hair & dress in ribbons, babycakes. In despair or incoherent, nothing in between. China white, my bride tonight, smiling on the tiles. Bring that minute back. We never get so close as when the sunward flight begins. I share it all with you, powder blue.

  • Stumble through the crowds together, they're trying to ignore us. That's OK. I'm proud to be the one you hold when the shakes begin. Sallow skinned, starry eyed, blessed in our sin. Bring that minute back. We never get so close to death, makes you so alive. I share it all with you, powder blue.

  • Bring that minute back. We never get so close as when the sunward flight begins. I share it all with you, powder blue.

    ...

    I think.

  • I just love that lyric: "I'm proud to be the one you hold, when the shakes begin". I think its my favourite lyric ever, goes round and round my head. I think I read it was about a couple the lead singer saw in a pub, obviously off their trees on something and had nothing at all apart from each other. Very tragic and yet touching.

  • My favourite Elbow lyric is off 'The stops':

"I pull out the stops, and you pull the plug".

They both mean the same thing in one sense, but completely different in another. Very clever!

  • I watch this at leas twice a day. I was singing this all day at work yesterday.

  • elbow ,doves son superiores a coldplay

  • Such a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL, tragic song... A friend introduced me to this band (and particular song) when we were doing a Top 5 Saddest Songs list. It breaks my heart every time, but I love it dearly.

  • ive never really given elbow a chance but after a friend told me they are one of the biggest underrated bands going i decided to give them a go and i like this song, will definitely be listening to more

  • one of those bands thats overlooked by so many!they are so underrated

  • Yeah, just does not make sense to me that even word of mouth would not have propelled Elbow to at least where Coldplay is.

Superior music, inferior sales, tragically unfair

  • This combination of video and music is quite stunning !

  • speechless

  • god tht song is sad

  • unspeakably beautiful song. sends shivers down my spine

  • This song should have way more views

  • Amazing Song!!! and what a wonderfull CLip! genius!!

  • This song is pure magic, it is so beautifull and so is the video for the song..

  • this is poetory :D

  • Wow, this song makes me really relaxed. I really like it.

    Mmm :)

    Gx

  • Amazing song, Fabulous Band!

  • this song makes me feel sth like a numb.. thank you for uploading..!

  • This band is amazing...what appear to be simple melodies grown on you and are revealed for the intricate, beautifully sad workings they really are...

Elbow. Why don't more people know?

  • stunning song

  • i spend so many times to found the tittle of this song :D Thank you Brittani <3

  • I ADORE this song, not so keen on the video though, i guess i have different images in my head to this song, like when you read the book then watch the film etc. Anyways. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! Im proud to be the one hold, when the shakes begin! Gives me goosebumps this song does!

  • A most beautiful peice of music...so much better than the durge released at the moment.

  • Songs don't get any more beautiful than this!! (well, maybe "Newborn"...)

  • brilliant song lovely voice

  • Awesome band, first saw them supporting muse in cardiff and have enjoyed them since. I agree with most of you that it is his voice, just powerfully understated. Very cool.

  • One of the best song by Elbow...and the video is absolutely beautiful

  • i could listen to guy garvey singing the phone book.the voice hits me in the gut and stops me dead.

  • questo brano ha un finale assolutamente stupendo, un vero esempio di buon gusto e . .....genio. 10 e lode.

  • An amazing song - one of my all time faves.

  • second best song from elbow.Anyday now is the best,I suppose, and if anyone has it,just upload it!

  • great song, but what the f**k is the video about?

  • FANTASTIC!

  • enteresan bi klip olmus

  • this is one of my favourite songs ever - been in love with it from the moment i first heard it... and god they even manage to make a saxophone sound beautiful!!!!

    elbow = genuises

  • So special

    So touching

    So beautifully sad...

These are the kind of songs that make you see the mistery that is life...

    One of my favorites, definitely

  • Elbow and The Office...two of my favorite things. Excellent! Bravo!

  • Its been awhile since i've used, but i can remember being on that pole,

  • q hermosa tonada, q buena banda, q buen video

  • This video is Brilliant! These cats have a great way of breaking away from the mundane videos that the propoganda villians control.

  • jude & londonbeat love this song..

    HELLO from TURKEY..

  • Currently the best band ib the world? I think so.

  • I couldn't agree more. . .

  • I'm proud to be the one you hold

    when the shakes begin

    stunning song

  • süper grup süper şarkı süper video !!!

  • How popular are they in England?

  • well, amongst the more discerning brits who know what proper music sounds like, elbow are extremely popular but in the grand scheme of things no, theyre tragically not very popular over here. i think that could be part of their appeal though, theyre like a well hidden gem. im expecting a single off their fourth album to be the best song ever written and explode them into public consciousness though. theres a prediction for you..

  • God willing, you are correct.
