can you give me an example how to use reflexive verbs cuz im goin into spanish II next semeter and i want to be ready...Example verb:Dormirse..........and are -gar -car -zar verbs are those the only verbs in the preterite that are weird....Gracias Señor Jordan
learn the language first without grammar, you will need the grammar much later if you want to be more educated and expand you knowledge of the Spanish language.
I completely agree. Sadly, most teachers won't teach that way so I offer these videos to help students who are struggling to understand their teachers.
This video is not designed to teach Spanish, there is nothing weird with the Spanish language when you already speak it. this video (attempts only to teach Spanish) giving you the sensation of something "weird" !! this is all Grammar, which you learn only and only after you speak the language.I was born in Mexico and I mastered the language Grammar at the (secundaria) which equaled 9th grade without getting too deep into the matter of grades.
This is how my teacher teaches it: Were in a CAR with the GAR picking up the ZAR. (So were in car with a fish picking up a russian because gar is a fish and a zar is a russian god sorta). I just remember it with: que car...gue gar...ce zar. It just sounds right and its almost like a rhyme. So just in case it helps anyone lol. Sorry if it didnt make much sense.
In Latin America, z/s/c are maybe pronounced the same. I am not sure about this. But in Spain the consonant in ce/ci/za/zu/zo is pronounced as 'th' in 'thanks', while 's' is pronounced the same as 's' in English. So when pronounced as 'th', there doesn't exist the spelling of ze/zi. They use ce/ci. I think that's why the spelling changes.
One other small thing - the "z" and "c" are pronounced the same - the reason that "z" has to change to "c" is just a spelling convention, not a pronunciation issue.
This is a very helpful video - I am going to have my students watch it. The only tiny thing I would comment on is that "cue" would be "cway", not "sway".
It's not to say that 'vosotros/vosotras' isn't useful! But I live closer to Central America than I do to Spain and a majority of my Spanish-speaking friends are from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras.
So I don't personally use vosotros/vosotras incredibly often.
I'm glad to know they're useful! Good luck in your learning. ;-)
Si ves el video con los pronombres, yo explico que no enseño 'vosotros' porque no quiero confundir a mis alumnos puesto que sólo se usa vosotros en España y por aquí hay bastantes centroamericanos.

I figured out what I was thinking... i meant to say that 'ce' was pronounced 'say'... somehow I must have gotten frazzled by the hot lighting...

En América Central se usa la forma "vos" en vez de "tú"; "vos decís" por ejemplo ¿Qué hay de eso?
jorge221090bb 2 years ago
Bueno. No se vosea mucho ni en México ni Panamá. Pero tenés razón en los demás. De todos, enseño un español 'estándar' aunque no hay 'estándar'.

Vosotros/vosotras is only used in Spain. I teach Spanish that can be used in the rest of the Spanish-speaking world, which doesn't use vosotros.
tontitofrito 3 years ago
