  • 1st day of the airport had many problems

  • Thanks UK, we will not forget you.

  • Gone , with the wind

  • What a brilliant series, man... Chep Lap Kok is spacious, nice, but soulless and generic. Like most new airports these days.. I wish I could go back in time to the days before glass cockpits, iphones, gleaming terminals into the REAL world that is slowly gone.. >.<

  • politians dont realise when they take something like an airport away from us its painfull. i would have build a new airport but left kai tak open like in paris when cdg was opened they left orly open too and now orly is a major domestic hub

  • Damn , when i was a child i landed there , but i was sleeping ! omg ! But the new airport is also very amazing !

  • Kai Tak was very convenient and saved a lot of time while travelling. It was just right in the middle of the city. I landed there in 1996 for my first trip to HK. Will never forget that unique moment. Especially at night, the landing was absolutely magic.

  • Im just wondering what the inside of the terminal look like..... would be horribly small i guess

  • I've never been to Kai Tak, but both Hong Kong airports are AMAZING.

  • very nice video

  • I worked at Kai Tak Airport cargo terminal back in 1970 for few years. Looking back the old airport is really tiny in compare with the new Chek Lap Kok. This clip brings back lots of fond memory. Thanks for posting.

  • Does anybody know what is the piano song in the end???

  • That would be Gnossiennes by Erik Satie.

  • im not form hong kong...im not from china...im not form asia...but i just love kai tak...its special..and hong knog is not hong kong without kai tak.I wish i can go in the past 90's and see those landings

  • i landed at the new one before our tour guide mentioned about Kai Tak.

no worries guys, still definitely part of the city and HK's citizens will always remember it.

but c'mon, it's expected capacity was 26million ppl...they were already handling 29.6million...it had to close down. bigger airport equals better safety. why risk it?

  • So Beautiful.

  • ???????????????

  • this video would be perfect if it didn't feature the new airport, it just doesn't a character, every said hong kong is so boring with out kai tak, they said it was proberly the only place where the airport was a part of the city

  • hong kong was so much better when it was british. the hong Kong citizens said it them selves. It was an amazing airport, beats any others. I hate the chinese for moving it. I've been to the new airport and its so boring

  • The renovation started in the early 90's when the british still had possesion of Hong Kong. The plan was to actually have the aiport ready for the handover in 1997. Construction was just behind schedule. No need to hate the Chinese. :)

  • i'm sorry, i didn't really mean that, but i was really angry than i never got to go there.

  • I was 3 years old when the Airport closed so no hard feelings.

  • year, same!

  • Really? You were 3 years old when the Airport closed?

  • i've been there when i was 12 years old. 1992

  • Kai Tak's loss was Chek Lap Kok gain.

  • It only shut down because China took the sovereignty of Hong Kong

  • I never saw Kai Tak...

  • fast you can se i thing 20 meters of the runway stil

  • Damn... I miss that old airport... It almost been ten year away...

  • why not leave a little bit of runway??? for a monument or for very small aircrafts??

  • 肯定英國政府的建設

  • this is so sad why did they have to destroy it??? couldnt they ahve left it alone???

  • i agree with u i havent seen kai tak in 9 years and i was only 2 years old!

  • I don't think Hong Kong would ever recover from the loss of Kai Tak. I wish I went to Kai Tak and took a few picture of the airport before closed. The only pictures I could take now are pictures of a ruined runway and parking lot. I hope the checkered board (the last marker of Kai Tak) would be a historical monument. I don't like the new Hong Kong Airport!!! It's too easy to land at!!!

  • I know exactly what you mean, there world always be hundreds of people on the streets of kowloon, just watching plane after plane now that is gone

  • wow fantastic video!! :-)..Good job!

  • The old Kai Tak Airport is converting into cruise terminal for tourist attraction, etc....

  • Very nice! Good job!

  • Fantastic video, thanks for posting!

  • very good video indeed :) kai tak will be miss forever!

  • i missed the old airport, i've only departed from Kai Tak once and by the time i returned to HK, it was no more...

  • i only departed twice and returned twice

  • lol i remember the old airport!!! old lil memories!!! XD

adn i never forget the new one opening with loada problems!! lol
