I was with you, right up until you smeared poo on the ceiling. It seems, there must be a better solution than smearing poo on the ceiling. Cow poo would be good in a methane generator. Maybe then you use the methane gas to cook up something that would be a very good varnish. Greatly reduced tree sap baked on with a hydrogen flame might work. So you'd use the methane to steam turbine alternator electricity for battery storage and hydrogen generation by electrolysis of water.

Um. Ive never used dry grass. If you use it, make sure there are no roots as they might still sprout.
