I present a radio show on Peterborough FM on Saturdays - can I used this to close next Saturday's programme with? Would this be ok? Programme is The Golden Years - listen online if you like, on peterborough. fm or Google it...10 till 12 noon playing classic oldies and rarities th at most other stations really have forgotten. Anyway let us know if your happy for me to use this?
This was so much better than the stream of shit from ITV labelled "sitcom"... "On The Buses", "Man About The House", "George and Mildred", "Mind Your Language" et al - absolutely dire.
I've said this before, but the closing shot of the end credits - the children playing in the demolished terrace with the 'modern' tower blocks framed in the background - is a piece of art in itself.
Theme tune is absolutely briliant. The opening credits are a trip down memory lane for me as Iived round the corner from the road where Terry is waiting for the bus.
@timpovikings The shot of Terry at the bus stop is on Commercial Road in Byker, although it looks nothing like that now. The shot of the road with a chimney at the end, is Lime Street, underneath Byker Bridge.The shots of a flyover, with buildings beneath it, is beside the Swan House Roundabout, the shots show the back of the Holy Jesus Hospital, Newcastle. If you google the hospital, you will see photos of it now, to see it hasnt changed that much since the credits were shot. Hope this helps
@timpovikings Sorry, not sure about the spire but if you visit the Get Carter tour site, as well as loads of info on Get Carter, which I also love, there is info on The Likely Lads so there may be more info in there for you with stuff you didnt know. Definitely worth a look. Put Get Carter Tour into google and it should come up.
I didn't understand the series or the song's lyrics when I first saw it as a teenager in the 70's. Now I do. I know lots of Bobs, but I have to admit I am definitely Terry.
shame they didnt film in north shields,but filmed in tynemouth,cullercoats and whitley bay aswell as the toon.they mention the north shields ferry though but haha
me and my mate billy consider ourselves being likely lads,having been friends since secondary school.Over thirty years ago,and all i can say is "thank goodness he got Thelma"

Written and recorded by Tony Rivers of Tony Rivers and the Castaways, then Harmony Grass, then with Cliff Richard in his best years - 1975 to 1989.

The song sounds like it was recorded by Lindisfarne.

@hazelnutyog
Do you know where the credits were shot?
I just found out that Bob's new house was on Falkirk in Killingworth.
Appreciate anything you know about the views in the titles?!
