I met Pertile in Italy in 1951, while studding with Apollo Granforte, great Baritone, and friend of the famous tenor. They both studied with Luigi Lucenti, himself a pupil of Antonio Cotogni, and I met him personally at his own house. His wife name was Italia and the most sad experience was when he died in Granforte's arms, sitting beside him, waiting for some water his wife went to get at the kitchen. I

This surely is the finest recorded rendition of "Improviso" - Ever!. Pertile remains today a giant among tenors and I would not argue with Alfredo Kraus' opinion that Pertile was the greatest.
