i think it really sucks that there is virtually no other place to watch this series online, and most of the parts here were deleted for copyright infringement
Well I for one loved this Mr. Wickham. The actor playing Mr. Wickham here did an artful job of getting Lizzie's sympathies. Mr. Wickham is wonderfully portrayed as a crafty and polished slime bucket. In my opinion he discloses his "story" so quickly to Lizzie because he picked up on her disdain for Mr. Darcy, and he's not the one to waste any time preying on a vulnerable young woman... Great scene and great all-round acting. Love the book and love this adaption!
@JudiTheWitch if you could see how these movies are mad you would not give the actors any real credit for the most part they are led by the hand and practically used as puppets the real credit is to those that you never see actors are ten a penny
When Denny was introducing the Bennett girls to Wikham, the way he said ''Ms. Lydia Bennett'' was said in such a way as if to depict annoyance or contempt :P
It is so cool! Mr. Darcy said on the first ball that he doesn't care for ladies who are slighted by other men. The moment Wickham starts to "like" Lizzy Darcy is very jealous and does care for her. Even a bit before but not that much..... Oh well, envious men. ;-)
I watched the 2005 adaption before this and I know many people like this better but I don't. Aswell as that the 2005 version had far more attractive people. I know it's rather shallow but Jennifer Ehle's continious fake smile throughout this makes me want to punch something
well,i i'd love to say that i totally disagree, but i can't. i think Elizabeth,Darcy and Bingley are perfect here, unlike in the 2005 adaptation, but in newer adaptation Jane,Mary and the Bingley sisters are way better looking. But that;s the only thing that I mind, because this version is just so much better and Coin Firth is perfect
I think he is way too open about his "quarrel" with Darcy and portraying himself being of more importance to his father than his own son is quite strange. he is so full of himself I would find him very unpleasant. It like the first thing he is talking about something I wouldn't reveal to someone I know for such a short time. I back up Jane
i can't find the parts of this in any kind of order... it's all messed up.. parts 1 or 2 and then episode 1 or 2 or 5 just jumping around...can't follow it at all.
@DanceswithPointeShoe I have read all of Jane Austen's books.. still don't mean i can't make sense of how the movie is displayed on here... thank you.
You appreciate what a good job the writers did here when you look at this part of the book. There is virtually NO dialogue until Elizabeth's conversation with Mr. Wickham, but the additional dialogue mixes with the original seamlessly.
I could never trust a man who would be willing to divulge such a personal, gossipy story to me upon our first meeting, especially if it would be vindicative on his behalf. It would seem too strange and catty, I'd find Wickham to be offputting though charming. I suppose I'd wind up thinking of him as someone who were too innocent to be reticent, and then I'd still fall into his trap. Sigh.
Personnaly, there are three people I want to kill in the film XDDDDD
1) Whickam XD
2) Mrs Bennet XDDDD Sh'si so stupid xD Poor Mr bennet when hemarry her XDD The first good thing in there is that they had two pretty daugher, Lizzie and Jane x)
whatever the intent of the director I find it too obvious and quite wrong to cut to Lydia whenever they speak of a definace of a father; it's almost patronizing to the readers/viewers...sorry. We're not that stupid.
If only Lizzie would listen to the voice of reason.....Jane. Wickham doesn't deserve the title of "Mr." is front of his name. That belongs to Mr. Darcy. Wickham sideburns bug me. and his little sob story. and now i am ranting.
Does anyone please know what that dance they are dancing in the bals in for exempel: Pride and prejudice, Northanger Abbey and Emma? I can see there are some different danec but does anyone please know the names of theese dances? :)
worst miscasting of any role is this version of Mr Wickham. He's supposed to be so handsome and charming and this guys is the polar opposite. Actively ugly and seriously uncharming.
hmm, wickham doesnt really do it for me. he looks like a disappointing mr. bingley (good looking in a sweet way) - a bit unsure of himself and everythign but not very attractive really, and certainly not adorable!
@vivascargill no I think, Lizzie spectates and then draws conclusions, while Jane goes by intuition, in which case her opinion of Mr. Wickham is absolutely correct.
@xxjudesxx But Jane also knows Darcy be better man than he seema--and also maybe I wrote this some place--there is a bit of Lydia jn Darcy Jane would never have jumped to conclusions about Mr. Darcy in fact she doesn't!! Alsowhile you could say Lizzie is a model for Emma Jane is a model for Anne Elliot hey I love them both!
(NB Charlotte also tells Lizzie about Dardy--there is a bit of Lydiia in her)
@vivascargill I believe that Lizzie may use her head too much and over think some things. (Though, she also allows her thoughts to be steered by her own feelings.) Jane on the other hand, tries to find the good in everyone and at the same time, not hold them too high in esteem.
@ToxisGrey Jane has "candour" (in the 18th century the word meant a disposition to think well of everybody) and Lizzie I think that I can quote the line comes to regret that she has disdained Jane's "generous candour" Jane also knows her own heart! right away no problem--Lizzie does not--in fact she resists knowing it think about it--would Jane EVER be remotely attracted by a loser like Wikham? I think your characterization of Jane is just right but as I wrote--they are 2 types of JA heroines
It should also be pointed out that to share confidences with a person, as Wickham does with Lizzy, was considered an intimate thing back then... you didn't talk like that with just anyone. It would have flattered her, led her on, and probably made her feel attached to him, even to trust him. Which, of course, just makes him more of a scoundrel.
I agree but just have to add that even in today's society its pretty odd to go on about your private life with someone you just met...as Sarandib22 said, only people who want to gain something from you will do that sort of thing.
You know what...the only reason why Elizabeth doesn't like Darcy at this point is b/c he dissed her by not dancing with her at first and claiming that she wasn't so hot in olden day terms.
Her pride was hurt and she became all prejudiced against him. ( love my corney play on the title).
@grayeyes043 Yu're right, and there is another reason too why she hated him, its because EVERYONE used to call him proud and disdained, and therefore, his reputation given by people affected her too..
I guess the time period left the raising of the children to the mother but I find the father so absent. why didn't he take charge of stupid lydia and kitty.
@tandiwe36 yes mr bennet is actually quite a rubbish father. he seems to care only for lizzy, he calls his daughters silly and stupid. mrs bennet isn't much better - her favourite is lydia, who she spoils shamelessly. hopefully darcy and lizzy will be better parents!!!!
I'd choose Mr. Darcy over Wickham any day... Why doesn't Elizabeth realize that wickham is just gossiping and such a man should not be trusted?? i mean he says he doesn't want to publicly humiliate darcy but he's talking about darcy to a girl he barely even knows
@MagicMirrorOnTheWall Well remember that her dealing with Darcy so far had been harsh. I mean he can been a jerk so far. So when Wickhan shares his heard about something that happened in his past that he says he isn't upset about. She believes him.
I love this version, and I find it almost perfect, even in casting. The actor who plays Wickham does it very well, but I have to say that in terms of his physical appeal (something he is supposed to have in abundance, according to the book) this actor just does nothing for me.
i agree.. there seems to be just something missing... i love the guy who plays whickham in lost in austen.. he to me seems almost the perfect whickham..
Beware anyone who casually confides their woes to you the first day they meet you. There's always something they're looking to gain from it. Someone who wouldn't gain from it wouldn't so quickly spill something so private and personal. I've learned that lesson personally, multiple times. It's NEVER a good sign.
@Sarandib22 Too right...in whatever version, this one, the 2005 film or the novel, you basically notice immediately that Wickham is planning something or has something else in mind than just confying to Lizzie...only she doesn't notice...
@Sarandib22 Hah, that dilemma is reminiscent of one of the characters in The Great Gatsby. (I never read the whole book, just a snippet, but still.) =]
The only time I open up to people is when I see that they are troubled.I do this in order to show they can trust me if they need a friend lean on. The only thing I gain is a deep level of friendship. Never walk away from a chance to love another humanbeing. There is more then one kind of love. Romantic love is not the only kind of love to live for.
I think it's because there's a flap on the front of their pants instead of a fly. The fabric buttons on the sides, and can kind of sag. You can see it on some pants on renaissance clothing websites too.
I dislike...no no. I despise, hate, loathe and completely HATE Mr. Wickham! (Well, I'll give credit to the actor for a good job at making him so dispicable)
8:28 Unchristian way? Is Jane saying that if you're not a christian, then you're immoral? Talk about prejudice

Totally! but the weird thing is, in the novel Wickham was supposed to be extremely good looking, maybe they wanted Mr Darcy to stand out more.
MRDEREVKO 2 years ago 10
I don't know if I believe this Mr. Wickam - he just seems older as in late 30's older where in the book it seemed like he was younger

Wickham is sexy but Darcy in a coat with a top hat on a horse is sexier

im so glad someone gets it =D

I love this version, and I find it almost perfect, even in casting. The actor who plays Wickham does it very well, but I have to say that in terms of his physical appeal (something he is supposed to have in abundance, according to the book) this actor just does nothing for me.

i agree.. there seems to be just something missing... i love the guy who plays whickham in lost in austen.. he to me seems almost the perfect whickham..

@Guusjj15 - I don't know if she really liked him or she wanted to like anyone who didn't like Darcy.

He is amiable. On the outside.

in Lost in Austen, Mr Collins is the creepiest, perviest guy I have ever seen. So glad this Mr. Collins is not that!

Beware anyone who casually confides their woes to you the first day they meet you. There's always something they're looking to gain from it. Someone who wouldn't gain from it wouldn't so quickly spill something so private and personal. I've learned that lesson personally, multiple times. It's NEVER a good sign.
Sarandib22 2 years ago 148
@Sarandib22 Too right...in whatever version, this one, the 2005 film or the novel, you basically notice immediately that Wickham is planning something or has something else in mind than just confying to Lizzie...only she doesn't notice...
Heowa 1 year ago 3
@Sarandib22 Hah, that dilemma is reminiscent of one of the characters in The Great Gatsby. (I never read the whole book, just a snippet, but still.) =]

@Sarandib22 you are so right! I'm going to think about that..

@Sarandib22
The only time I open up to people is when I see that they are troubled.I do this in order to show they can trust me if they need a friend lean on. The only thing I gain is a deep level of friendship. Never walk away from a chance to love another humanbeing. There is more then one kind of love. Romantic love is not the only kind of love to live for.

am i the only one who sees how big their crotches look in those pants
Sgreen827 2 years ago 17
at least they're not wearing codpieces.
...
just sayin
palebluedot 2 years ago 5
I think it's because there's a flap on the front of their pants instead of a fly. The fabric buttons on the sides, and can kind of sag. You can see it on some pants on renaissance clothing websites too.

I dislike...no no. I despise, hate, loathe and completely HATE Mr. Wickham! (Well, I'll give credit to the actor for a good job at making him so dispicable)
