  • just wired a plug on a 2nd hand washing machine i bought by watching this video. thank you.

  • @HuangKaini

    I'm glad it helped.

    Thanks for the comment

  • what if my wire only has brown and blue? and no green and yellow wire??? HELP??? can i use a normal plug? plz help

  • @BasslineFishehhh

That normally means that the appliance at the other end of the lead is double insulated, so yes there will be no earth wire on such an item so just connect the live and neutral

  • hi

thanks for this - if im putting a plug on a fluorescent light strip should i use a 5 or 13 amp fuse?

    Thanks

  • @amethyst3raver

If it is just the one light a 3 amp fuse is best.

  • @amjmmoon

    Glad it has helped you.

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • Glad you mentioned about the fuse rating but its more important for cable sizes than appliances within reason of course it just makes people think a 20m extension wired in 0.5mm flex is ok because its on a 13a fuse. Also I'd have sacked myself if it took 6 minutes to wire a plug, finally someone mentioned about the earth cable being longest because its the last to disconnect but its also relivant that the live is shortest because its the first to disconnect if the flex is pulled to hard.

  • The earth wire should be longer. If the cord grip fails, the earth wire should be last one to be pulled out of the terminal.

  • @sajjen1

It's truly amazing the amount of plug wiring experts out there!

  • @ultimatehandyman: No offence, but if you're going to do an instructional video, for something as potentially dangerous as electricity, you better make sure you do it correctly.

  • @sajjen1

Don't make such stupid comments then.

In the unlikely event that the cable is pulled out of the plug, all three conductors would be disconnected at the same time.

    No offence BTW

  • @ultimatehandyman

That's exactly the problem, that the wires are disconnected at the same time. The earth should stay connected longer.

  • Good video, suprising how many people can't do this,my grandfather taught me in the days before the internet.

  • @TheWolfie6

    Thanks for the comment.

I think we were shown at school, but I had already done it several times before that. When I was a kid nothing came with the plug connected.

  • Hi that plug top is illegal it has no shields on the live and neutral pins ;-(

  • @wilbur012

    I didn't make the plug

  • Thank you.

  • @crzybtch1000

    You are welcome

  • thanks for this , i work in an electrical company and i failed my sectt test twice last year , but i passed it today.. finally 3rd time lucky so my boss is going to take me on as an apprentice now so happy days for me

  • @XboxKenny1992

Thanks for the comment and good luck with your apprenticeship ;-)

  • @ultimatehandyman thank you sir

  • great video, as a electrician i thought it was pretty important i knew how to do this and this video was a good one for me to follow

  • @benjir0b0

    Thanks for the comment!

  • The stripper works better when the cable is inserted from the other side (the bevelled edges are facing you). I must say the plugs and cables in North America are a lot flimsier than in the UK. And the only need one screwdriver. Here in Canada you might need both a square and slot head screwdriver to fit one plug! It's really infuriating to deal with our electrical fittings. They are designed to fail!

  • @kaizerzydeco

What is the voltage in Canada?

In the UK it's about 230v - 50hz, I know much of the USA is 110v - 60hz but I am not sure about the voltage in Canada?

  • @ultimatehandyman 120v - 60 hz. Some high-draw appliances are 240v so most houses have both via a 3-wire arrangement that somehow provides either 120 or 240 depending on how it's hooked up.

  • @kaizerzydeco

Thanks for the reply. I'll search the net and see if I can find more out about this as it is interesting.

  • thanks, very helpful

  • well that was easy! when james may said a lot of men couldn't wire a plug i though it was something complicated. is a piece of cake

  • Cheers for the video,i am doing a lesson on fitting a plug for my DIT course.

  • @dsctang

    You are welcome!
