That normally means that the appliance at the other end of the lead is double insulated, so yes there will be no earth wire on such an item so just connect the live and neutral
Glad you mentioned about the fuse rating but its more important for cable sizes than appliances within reason of course it just makes people think a 20m extension wired in 0.5mm flex is ok because its on a 13a fuse. Also I'd have sacked myself if it took 6 minutes to wire a plug, finally someone mentioned about the earth cable being longest because its the last to disconnect but its also relivant that the live is shortest because its the first to disconnect if the flex is pulled to hard.
@ultimatehandyman: No offence, but if you're going to do an instructional video, for something as potentially dangerous as electricity, you better make sure you do it correctly.
thanks for this , i work in an electrical company and i failed my sectt test twice last year , but i passed it today.. finally 3rd time lucky so my boss is going to take me on as an apprentice now so happy days for me
The stripper works better when the cable is inserted from the other side (the bevelled edges are facing you). I must say the plugs and cables in North America are a lot flimsier than in the UK. And the only need one screwdriver. Here in Canada you might need both a square and slot head screwdriver to fit one plug! It's really infuriating to deal with our electrical fittings. They are designed to fail!
@ultimatehandyman 120v - 60 hz. Some high-draw appliances are 240v so most houses have both via a 3-wire arrangement that somehow provides either 120 or 240 depending on how it's hooked up.
just wired a plug on a 2nd hand washing machine i bought by watching this video. thank you.

@amethyst3raver
If it is just the one light a 3 amp fuse is best.

The earth wire should be longer. If the cord grip fails, the earth wire should be last one to be pulled out of the terminal.

Don't make such stupid comments then.
In the unlikely event that the cable is pulled out of the plug, all three conductors would be disconnected at the same time.
No offence BTW
ultimatehandyman 8 months ago
@ultimatehandyman
That's exactly the problem, that the wires are disconnected at the same time. The earth should stay connected longer.

I think we were shown at school, but I had already done it several times before that. When I was a kid nothing came with the plug connected.

What is the voltage in Canada?
In the UK it's about 230v - 50hz, I know much of the USA is 110v - 60hz but I am not sure about the voltage in Canada?
