  • you should whip it with some coconut oil and jojoba oil.and your good. I had the same problem

  • You put too much, you don't need much bc your hair isn't long yet

  • hahahaha thats what you get

  • hahahaha

  • i dont think thats the real thing ...

  • melting it helps it spread better and therefore not be "cakey" looking...also u can try using it every other day to allow time for it to absorb into your hair so you won't keep building the shea layers and it look like that...(some stuff i've learned):)

  • Yeah I quit with shea butter I used to think it was the best thing ever but lately it has been wack to my hair...and I will not be using it again!

  • i'd really like to try it again, but i'm so afraid of getting the same results, i haven't tried since...

  • @bonitaglover Ok so i lied! I have tried it again and have been using dime sized amounts rubbing it in the palms of my hands until it becomes creamy, also try to use it when your hands are dry...because it doesn't melt as good in the palm of the hand when you use it when your hands are not dry.

  • @YourRoyalFlyeness lol...you're going to make me want to give it another try soon. i do plan on it. i was trying to wait until the weather was a little warmer. i'd hate to give up on what is a staple to so many naturals but it just wasn't working for me in the past...guess i'll have to give it another try!

  • IDK if it's because of length or not but it does look like you used alot. I LOVE Shea Butter!!! It locks in moisture like nothing else I've seen! Maybe waiting a few months like the previous ladies suggested is key. But also try using less. It should be applied as if your using vaseline. Vaseline gets very thick & cloggish so you use very little. Do the same & see how it works.

  • Yes, I know what u mean.... I mix it with olive oil and/or castor oil to avoid this...

I agree with kierone1 - it works better with a bit more length so don't chuck it out just yet! This yucky white stuff changed my natural life:-)

    char

  • it makes it so easy to detangle...maybe i'm too heavy handed with it. i'll definitely try it again...in the future...after i've gotten over my anger at it.

  • ummmm i use aloe vera gel on my hair

  • Def try it out with different oils like coconut, jojoba, avocado etc. Most people mix it...and you can try it on dry hair/scalp as a moisturizer> Keep it around, it works wonders!

  • When my hair was your length my hair could not stand shea butter either My hair looked the exact same as yours did after putting it on I tried shea butter about a month ago and my hair loved. Have been using it ever since. Give it another try in a few more months. When your hair gets longer. It will be easier to rub shea butter down the hair shaft especially if you put coconut oil on first. Apply it in small sections. Thats how I use it. I just refused to give up on it. Im glad I tried it again.

  • thanks for the advice! i think i will give it a try in a few more months and maybe just use it sparingly for now on dry hair only like innovativethinkin suggested...

  • I don't use it on my hair anymore either. I found that it really needs to be used in no more than a dime size amount. It mixes well with olive oil but even after mixing, I'm left with a heavy coating. I always end up having to clarify. I thought I was the only one who experienced this:(

  • the sad thing is when i melted it down and put it in my hair, it worked AWESOMELY as a detangler. but it always dries white and feels like a waxy coating. i keep hearing naturals say it leaves their hair so soft and i'm trying to figure out HOW to use it in that way for my hair...

  • Maybe you've bought bad shea butter because sometimes people who manufacture it will mix wax in it and that may effect it. I've never had that problem and my shea butter has been melted several times due to sitting in a hot car and me melting it myself. And it never dried white for me. Only when i put too much in but when my hair dries it disappears.

  • try the Jamacian lime and Mango line.. It works fo me. I only use shea butter to grease my scalp...

  • lol it was like that for me when I first went natural. It's different on natural hair than relaxed. I don't apply shea to wet hair. It always leaves that white film. I always mix it w/ oils to soften it and only use it to moisturize my twists/braids

  • maybe that's it? i always apply my product to wet hair because i feel like once my hair is dry, it's DRY and no amount of product ever makes it feel soft unless i apply it when wet. but perhaps i'll give it a shot dry. i'm still experimenting with it...

  • you know, I felt that way too so I add water. It makes it into a creme. Just make sure to add vitamin e, rosemary oil, or tea trea oil so it won't mold

  • IDK Bonita, I love Shea butter. I do the whipped mix w/ coconut oil and its great. I've used it on wet and dry twists. Maybe you're using too much? I wouldn't give up on it just yet. Try it again another day and see what happens.

  • i really WANT to like shea, but the 2 tims i've tried have given me the same results, lol... i'm not giving up hope completely yet (i don't think) but i'm super frustrated with it!
