It's a mechanism in the barrel (or right by the chamber) that puts a spin on teh BB to make it travel farther. This gun has adjustable hop-up, letting you put less of a spin (thus less climb) for short distances. The heavier the BB, the more hop-up you need to keep it from falling too soon.

Actually, I found the natural hop-up to be... crappy for .28g BBs, so yeah, you do have to turn it up if you want good accuracy unless you're using .23g or .2g.

REALLY heavy BBs plus fast pace equals nice gun! Just to clarify, you need somewhere between .3g and .4g in order to even USE the Gen 5!

i think the gen 5 has a higher fps which i think is between 375-450

Okay, it differs with different sites. It's $85 plus. I got it on ShortyUSA for $100. Yes, it's more, but I HIGHLY recommend getting it there. You save on shipping costs.

This was the Gen. 3 bolt and ShortyUSA just got the Gen. 5, so they changed it. The new gen needs heavier ammo, so I don't have a proven answer.

It's pretty much the same thing with a real gun. If you dry fire a real gun, you wear out the firing pin. Airsoft guns, while I don't THINK they have "firing pins," it's the same principle.

Ok, I am quite confused, What is wrong with staring down the barrel, To much Grand theft Auto you say. Well I find Iron sights (or sighting along the barrel) alot easier than scopes, But I wouldn't know anything about Airsoft guns so why is it bad???

Well, in most contexts, staring down the barrel in an airsoft gun is as stupid as staring down the barrel of a real gun. Your eye can get blown out if there's a live round (or BB) in the chamber and it's accidentally fired. As for the GTA comment, I'm not sure...

Some people prefer iron sights to scopes, but I'm kind of a natural-born sniper, so it's easier for me.

It is really quite rare for a live round to be accidently fired, But as a pre-cautionary, I get more dependable rounds. And I aint dissing scopes. I like scopes, They are alot more accurate, But iron sights are more dependable and have more thrill =)

It really depends. It's good for tactical stuff because it's versitile in many situations (you can use the weaver rail for sights if you're caught without a scope.)

If you wanna have FUN... you've come to the right rifle. I usually crank around 170 rounds through it a day... and that's just plinkin'!

Before you use it in a skrmish, though, you need to run lots and lots of magazines through it because you'll get used to the gun, and the magazine will POP out instead of you having to pull it out. Kind of like training for both you and the gun.
