I like things like this ... House, Sherlock (BBC ...and the stories in general) and now the Mentalist ... shows/stories about people who are just extremely observant and highly intelligent, which leads them to solve mysteries others can't even see as puzzles. I may start watching this .... :)

And maybe Jane is better in reading people. But Jane also manipulates

the cards he is dealt with in his favor.

basicaly this is a show about the most genius man who lived

he never does any mistakes, he always like a 100 steps beyond

kinda like the movie limitless, but better because he has a goal

and it is to avange his family.

No,it is not. In The Mentalist the main character is using his con skills to solve a crime which also includes manipulating.

As where in Psych Shaun simply is very observant. However they both think outside the box.

No,he doesn't manipulate. He deducts and then follows the clues.

Jane doesn't always follow up on the clues. He sometimes can't be bothered by the leg work.

But most of the time you will see Jane plan a situation or event where the suspect is to act in a certain way

to avoid all the clue searching. It is part of how con artists think and act. He even says so himself in the earlier episodes. The only con Shawn is guilty of is saying that he is a psychic.

Being a huge 'friends' fan..

Ive noticed alot of guest stars from friends that also appear in mentalist..

Eg. Guy at gym counter with sweaty shirt, mike hannigans parents, elizabeth.. etc..Pretty COOL.

Mentalist is great btw. Its humorous, which doesnt make it a comedy.

That doesn't matter that it's a not comedy. The characters may be different, the feel may be different, but the premise is pretty much exactly the same. Strip the show down to the core, and it's Psych.

@PoeticRamblings LOL i don't watch psych but I second your comment :-) there are a lot of TV shows that are "Almost the same" or have anything in common like pretty little liars and life unexpected Lux the main character is dating Mr. Daniels , and Aria is dating Mr. Fitz... and are nowhere close to be the same so people deal with it.. :)

Oh, I don't hate The Mentalist, Psych is just more my speed. Basically, The Mentalist is the main idea of Psych, and taken to be a thriller or more dark instead of showing the lighter side of crime shows. Appeals to different tastes. :)

If you actually watch both shows, like I do, you'll see that they are entire different. Both take a lot from Sherlock Holmes, however, they are implemented entirely different. Patrick Jane and Shawn Spencer have little to nothing in common.

Actually they are VERY different. I LOVE psych it's hilarious, but Patrick has a really serious past and he doesn't want to be a cop. He just wants to bring justice to the man who murdered his wife and daughter. It's similar yes, but not close enough.

@an3sthetize dont think that i am against you, but saying x file is crap is a little bit alot. X Files is considered the prototype series for all new investigation series. I like the mentalist alot because it's a new idea and the actors are doing thier jobs in the best way it can be done, but lets not forget that every series is good because it's unique, like criminal minds (original idea) the original csi (original idea) and so on. Any way it's your opinion and i cant say you are wrong :)

Never seen this before. Looks good, but the idea is a rip off of Psych, one of my favorite shows in the world. A fake psychic works for the authorities to catch the bad guys. Only difference, Psych is a hilarious comedy and this is not. Still looks good though.

I think it has much more of Monk and not soooo much of Psych because Psych is a comedy show! The Mentalist is pretty funny too but I think it's sooo sad! I thought the exact same thing when I read the sypnosis and already have a predisposition to hate it before seeing it. Then, I saw the pilot (just finshed it a min ago) and surprisingly I like it. It's really good and completely against what you expect. Even though same premise as Psych, very different show. It's like saying Reno 911 and SVU is different, yeah it's that different. I hope people like me would give it a chance and hope it has a following, I want to see more of it
