The whole idea of a green screen or chromakey is to block everything behind it. The only way you can do that is to move the feeder, take a picture of it, put the feed back and then film. When you key out the green screen place the pic behind the footage and it will show through. Think of a green scren as a hole in the video that lets you see that is behind the video NOT the item being keyed out. Kind of like cutting a hole in a picture and looking through it

That’s Right they used Alka-Seltzer tablets in a drinking glass with a yellow light at the bottom. The cost was making it fit the actor’s silhouette. There were no computers back then that could make the effects they were all hand done and took days some times weeks to complete. The cheapest effect was the old puff of smoke; Lost in Space used this effect to do their versions of instant transportation.

A cheesy effect is one that is obvious how it was made and no need for a show like this. The effects in Star Trek were never cheesy. It coasted the studios $1,000 dollars every time the Transporter was used in the show. That's at least $7,500 today. That is why in many episodes you never get to see the effect. They kept the secrets of the effect for decades. PS. these guys did it wrong. Here is a hint "Plop Plop Fizz Fizz oh what a relief it is.
