  • i want this badly D:

  • Why do the strings seem so loose, yet they're still giving the sound they're supposed to? Also, what's the difference between high and regular tension strings?

  • Try looking for a book by "Jeff Nevin" in Amazon.com His book teaches the basics, intermediate and advance for guitarron. Careful, his books are also for trumpet, violin, vihuela, etc. Look for the Guitarron one. You'll find sample songs to play and they contain the scale runs within the song. Once you master a scale, you can then rev up or down the key you want. I've played Margaritaville several times with a guitarron, I've been told it sounds good. Good luck.

  • @quiquesandiego

Thanks.. I found a copy used @ Amazon for a total of $29.00 with fast shipping included, not bad when the book retails at $52.00, I also got the other book sugested here ( below ) but its of no help at all -at least to me its not, cause you have to read music to use it and my eyes are bad and reading music is out of the question

  • Is the action real high at the begining of the neck? I have a home made one and its about a half inch high where the neck meets the top sound board.

  • @Fattboy59 yep - suppose to be real high, it helps get that sound, if its to low the strings snap on the wood top and you can play like that.

  • I started playing Bluegrass last year with a slow jam class in Berkeley,CA.I was using an ABG (Acoustic Bass Guitar) but had the idea of trying a Guitarron in a

Bluegrass jam setting. The challenge will be doing scale runs between chord changes & learning ways walk the basslines. Are you using a method book?

  • @CarlosMacMartin

hey.. i only found a "note chart" online using "guitarron tuning"

    on Googke search

Scale Runs I never found.. at least none in english.. if u find some pass em my way - por-favor!!

  • @60svibe Me neither, but I was told that the best method for the Guitarron is a book by Natividad de Santiago Gonzalez.I have not seen it yet and can only hope that it has some scale runs in it.If I do come across anything relevant I will pass it on.In the meantime, check out The Abbott Family or Toneway dot com.

  • @60svibe if you wanna learn how to play just next time you see a mariachi ask him for lessons. guitarron is real easy just needs time and charisma like any other instrument.

  • @kevhstn

I do, they usally show me stuff on the spot, next time ill ask for real $ lessons

    - but I needed a book for scales etc.

but one needs to read music to learn from this the book- so i'm stuck again.

  • @60svibe idk dude the only books that i know about are in mexico and theyre in spanish.

  • @60svibe You could listen to Mariachi music and learn the different scales there, Here's a basic C Major scale found in many Ranchera Songs in 3/4 time signature G A B C A G F E D C. Of Course not every song in mariachi is in the key of C so you would have to transpose.

  • te ves mejor en azul mi amigo

  • te ves mejor en azul mi amigo

  • @DreadedEd

Oh yea Blue is my favorite color thanks!

  • Groovy, the dude and guitarron match

  • real interesting man i would love to try one out someday i play a regular 4 string so this would be great to mess around with best of luck

  • Been at this Guitarron bass for under a year now,

I taught myself how to play the notes properly - which actually takes two strings plucked simultaneously - thats two strings for A-B-C-D-E-F-G and all the flats and sharps are two strings - except for A flat which is the only note thats just played on ONE String .

I've been trying to learn the songs now - its a slow process - but I love this instrument - I take it to the beach and play it almost daily here in Long Beach I am walking distance.
