  • @MrLehnerd Good to hear from you again. Was wondering what happend to ya.

  • Love these music segments--thanks again, Windsorbear. "La Dee Doo Down Down" was a nice breezy song that one could easily sing along to. I more remember this cartoon segment for the Veronica Walk. It was a cool little animated feature, particularly when she shimmies down to the floor. I remember watching The Archie Show on CBS-TV Saturday mornings religiously when it first aired--not so much its later spinoffs afterwards.

  • @wainoco318 I watched "The Archie Show" from 1968/69, "The Archie Comedy Hour" from 1969/70, and "Archie's Funhouse" from 1970/71. Those were the three shows that contained music from the original Archies musical group. After that, I didn't watch much of the others as the music group was no longer featured in the shows, and when it was brought back in "U.S. of Archie", it was no longer the original group as they disbanded in 1972.

  • Seems the comment box didn't like beginning of the link, you know: "h . . ." So the South African charts link is "rock.co.za/files/sarock_charts.html#springbok"

  • To follow on from the fabulousthomas about this being a big hit in South Africa, here's the Archies' chart success in SA:

    10th Jan 1969 — Bang, Shang-A-Lang, no. 3

    11th Apr 1969 — Feelin' So Good, no. 6

    11th Jul 1969 — Sugar Sugar, no. 1

3rd Oct 1969 — La Dee Doo Down Down, no.2

    19th Dec 1969 — Nursery Rhyme, no. 12

    13th Feb 1970 — Jingle, Jangle, no. 15

    23rd Oct 1970 — Sunshine, no. 16

    26th Feb 1971 — A Summer Prayer For Peace, no. 1.

"Sugar Sugar" is still a huge dance favourite.

  • @theherald1000 THANKS!!! Great information to have. I knew more Archies singles were released in South Africa than the USA (for whatever reason), but I had no idea that they fared so well on the charts. Let's see... "Feelin' So Good" didn't even crack the Top 40 here, and neither "La Dee Doo Down Down" or "Nursery Rhyme" was released here as a single. "Jingle Jangle" did better here (hit #10), but "Sunshine" didn't crack the Top 40 and neither did "Summer Prayer".

  • @windsorbear Am trying to respond to your post, keeping within the character limit, but keep getting "Error, try again". Any ideas?

  • @theherald1000 Make sure there's at least 10 characters left. Other than that, it's probably some character that YouTube doesn't like in the comments section... although quotation marks and apostrophes are accepted... so I'm not sure which one it might be.

  • @windsorbear We loved the Archies in SA but our only complaint is that they never toured out here, ha ha ! If you want to verify anything else on the SA charts, go to link "rock.co.za/files/springbok-top-20-(C).html" (unfortunately, only 1969-89, though). If this post is accepted, replace the 3 hyphens with underscore in the link.

My sister bought "La Dee . . ." b/w "Boys and Girls" when it first came out. (We were just pre-teens). I have "A Summer Prayer for Peace" b/w "Dance".

  • Pre MTV Days.

  • Ugh... Veronica's a bitch

  • The Veronica's walk: walking like a snob with a touch of swing.

  • I actually like "The Veronica Walk" as a song. Sounds a bit like a bit more grown up version of the Archies' song "Time for love".

  • This was released as a single (and was a big hit) in South Africa. . .

. . .around the time "Sugar, Sugar" was in the top 10 here in the States.

  • when u see those big dots flashin different color just make u notice the colors so well......Just right for archies bad idea use same for the brady kids that a thumbs down like reusin hot dog and foo foo also on brady kids!

  • Walk like a Veronica...

  • i wonder what would happen if she had a wall in front n ran into it what her dance be next.....Oh i know the Veronica hits wall dance
