  • Great stuff! Thumbs up!

  • wait...what?

  • ooooeeewwwwuurrrrr whheeeooooowwwuuurrrr!!!

  • That really just happened. Really. Really?

  • The hindu guy ruins it.

  • the girl don't sing on overtone

  • @geboy5 So?

  • this song is about magnets.

  • Man, that guy is good!

  • 3:06 lol?

  • i enjoyed the music

  • I didn't know that could actually be achieved by just one person! I've only ever heard it with a choir before when multiple octaves all sing the same note on perfect pitch.

Or would that be called something else? I never had a clear idea on what the name was.

  • i dont think its really new age, just a showcase of three very ancient styles of singing; overtone, yodel? & gayaki (i think)

  • the music is good but the video is plain stupid.

  • holy shit !!!!!

  • I fell asleep, what just happened? I came to around 1:60

Very nice Both of them :)

  • Interesting! Beautiful music-video. And the overtone singer is pretty advanced - so fast changes in base tones in the fastest part... very gooood! Keep up the good work. :)

  • It reminds me of Kazooing, but not,,,,

  • 3:08 GET THESE INVISIBLE BEES AWAY FROM ME!

  • scary new age crap!

  • New age ?sounds extremely ancient to me just new to a westerner@ ThereminWeirdo

  • @deltabluesdavidraye dude, this is as new age as it can get; just watch the video! how they're mystifying everything and themselves and shit... I really like the technique though, it's too bad that it has been mixed with the spiritual wackoes of the west.

  • @FredeGF Well, you always have the choice of not involving yourself with something if you don't like it. Being hateful doesn't help your cause any. You should know that.

  • @Landotter1 Oh yes, the good old "if you don't like, then scram!" - well I'm not buying that; dialogue is the foundation of cultural development. And please, let your patriachal normativity stay at home. I got involved because I generally like the sound of overtone singing and wrote what I wrote both to criticize the whole New Age "movement", which I mean is based on a profound misunderstanding of eastern cultures, and to make an argument for this being "New Age" indeed.

  • @FredeGF Just like you, I can bloody-well comment on anything I like. OK, get involved but you don't need to be a jack-ass about it, or YOU should stay home.

  • i really like this up to about 2:00 where the feeling goes from calm and deep to a strange change in sound. wish i could find more of Rollin's singing on youtube.

  • Soundtrack Engineered by:

    Pete Townsend

the sama pete townsend from The Who?

  • Here's an interesting thing to think on. There were no Musical instruments in that entire song other than voice

  • REALlY NICEVIDEO until 2:48 !!! They'reso harmonic1 And She has a nice Voice

  • Might be watchable if it weren't for that guy's incredibly awkward and forced "dance".

  • Check out 3:07

if you saw a dude at Walmart doing this you would call 911 and ask for an ambulance "He's having an epileptic seizure!"

  • Gorgeous.

  • this is such an awsome nasal fake, that one has to recpect the ignorancy only which drives them, to call ^this khoomei^ ;LP

  • The Indian looking guy is the true master in this video

  • Good throat singing overall but i think this man has become the rick astley of khoomei XD

  • Some talented stuff in here, but *fucking lol* at wanky arm movements like @ 1:04

  • you look like a real douche moving ur hands around like a cock.

  • Happy play with original sound!

  • nothing at all wrong with the singing (the singing was actually cool), but the video was pretty tacky!

  • this is just madmen fucking about

  • A little over-dramatic, no?

  • when the indian guy came in i started laughing

  • Kongar Ool Ondar is the world authority. Check out his clip from the Letterman show. Forget all the rest of these guys. Also, check out the group Huun Huur Tu and the Bulgarian womens choir if you want to hear some fantastically weird stuff.

  • It'd be nice if more people dabbled and learned the ways of other cultures, learning what the world has to offer, instead of critiquing others who strive to educate others in the almost forgotten traditions of the world.

  • @ VforVespa.

Crap it is , but of an old age, though. Leading authority my ass.Neocollonial idiots think they can gain authority by riping off other cultures. Does'nt even sound like overtone... :P

  • New age crap.

  • @VforVespa this is all from the throat...it's amazing..it's not new age crap.

  • I hate the videoclip. I like the music :)

  • I swear that the Indian bloke is tripping out on something with all of the ninja hand movements that hes got going on :P

  • As you can see it says overtone singing,, Not Throat singing. So this guy can go and say hes the world's most leading authorities in overtone singing, Now if he was to state he was the worlds most leading authorities in throat singing then i would go to say heas a few thousand years late in the art. And if you listen hes more nasle then throat.

  • 3:08 !!!!!! hahaha o man, i should have watched the rest of the video before posting

  • hahahahahahahaha!!!!! damn that chick singing is fucking gay 2:00 hahahha T___T

  • i find this completely racist and a total disrespect of my ancestors

  • im not sure what ive stumble onto here exactly, but his overtones are lovely

  • I love this and I see nothing wrong with combining music from different cultures. It can only help us understand each other!!!

  • something makes me wanting to run to that guy and kick him

  • this is soo scarey

  • I really like overtone singing. There's really no problem with some goofy guy doing his best to bring it in to the mainstream, and, I mean, he's really good. Maybe there are a few directorial choices that shouldn't have been considered, though...the video is kinda silly.

I think I'd rather not hear the other two singers as well. But I'm sure everyone involved intended for the song to be complete.

  • Although steerpikey came across as a bit much verbagewise, his point is good. The pretentions here are pretty hard to take...is stinks of phonyness and orientalism.

  • well, this is definately different from anything i've ever heard...i can't say i hate it though...

  • omg that was horrible

  • I thought it was sooooo beautiful, i wish I could sing like that

  • The guy at the end looks and sounds like a mentally challenged person being stung by a bunch of bees...

  • lmao well funny. should i take drugs now?

  • this is corny

  • the guy at the end is intense

  • The harmonics sound so beautiful.

  • wow that was cool

  • i am listening to it again and again. its perfect

  • This style of singing is from mongolia ;-)

  • @Leowenherz This is a western development based on Mongolian throat singing..and the pioneer of this style, called Harmonic Singing or Harmonic chant is David Hykes, a true master. Cheerz ;)

  • have you ever heard of raga? its 3000 year old indian classical music, ajanta and elora cave painting have artisans performing these devotional songs in the temples of india.

  • this is the funniest thing i've ever seen. I love it but its too damn funny to take serious

  • Take it in the spirit of people having fun with their voices then.

  • Beautiful, but the Indian gentleman didn't blend as well as the harmonic and Celtic singers.

  • for me it is perfect blend. its like combinig tastes you would not do normaly but then you find out that it is great.

  • Isnt that lady from the sound of music??(very cool techniques btw:) )

  • @MeestaMeesta settle down, ... it's good faggotty shit

  • Reminds me of a near death experiance i had once while on PCP. Thank God i survived them days!

  • wish you hadn't, too many of yous

  • haha sounds a bit creapy,.. but really cool!! we did this in our high school choir today. it sounded really cool!!

  • Merkwürdiges Video..aber gut gesungen!

  • hahaha these people seem very much on drugs

  • its tuvan throat singing

  • Nice trippi nippi!

  • have a question.... te overtone melodies can only go through the natural armonics of the fundamental noise sung, isn´t? and to what armonic can you reach?

  • Absolutely beautiful! . . Try listening with your heart. It feels wonderful.

  • @janteuse your heart has ears? wow

  • wow.

  • east meets west =)

  • I like the concept, but I find the vid just a little corny. Maybe the editing is to blame. It's really too fast. I view this as a rough draft toward something better. But thank you for posting.

  • Try to only listen to it.

  • wow this is fascinating...i couldn't help but smile

  • The possibilites are quite interesting for the future of vocal expression. Though this example leaves a little to be desired in the direction of harmnoy. But, they are at least trying to push the envelope. Success to 'em, I say. Long live experimentation in music.

  • It turns into something terribly awkward from 1:12 :S

  • *rofl* It's tolerable (as long as you don't watch), until he launches into the generic I-IV-V progression and she starts yodeling over it. Decent, technique, I guess, but terrible musicianship, turning something which can be hauntingly beautiful into an pedestrian irritant.

  • Am I the only one that wants to slap him...

I can do that with my voice...

But I'd rather not break my vocal cords...

  • What an irritating misuse of a beautiful form of expression...

  • agreed. complete lack of mystique.

shitting in the woods can be more of a spiritual experience than this

  • Well there's much furore all around the new age stuff... referring to this video Mr. Rachele is not one of the world's leading overtone singers to me (I sing overtones be myself for years) but it's very nice in combining different interesting vocal styles... when it come to this tradition stuff I have to say that I prefer new interpretations and usings of the techniques especially in combining it with unusual music and instruments

  • i think what they have done in this video is try to present some of the worlds most amazing musical traditions into a genre that the average person, not skilled in these arts forms can appreciate, and at this i personally think they have dony very well.

    matt

  • Spot on Steerpikey, i totally agree. This ancient warlike music unaltered for centuries finally gets into the hands of butchers.

  • Comment removed

  • very true, but I do like his clothing

  • if you just listen, it isn´t bad at all..

so concentrate on the beauty of the music, and not on the posers who do it.;)

guns´n´roses, for example, i love their sound, but axl is the greatest poser-idiot on earth. :D

  • haha nice example :)

  • @Steerpikey - steerpikey, do you say that because of your extensive knowledge of mongolian, japanese, tuva, and inuit traditions, or is it because you just wanted to use the word "simulacra"? baudrillard would be proud of your simulacrum of authentic critiquing.

  • Sheesh, you should definitely get that sand out of your vagina. Calling this "rape" is a bit extreme, isn't it? It sounds great and that's what should matter about music. Don't be a bitch. Enjoy this or not but don't ruin everyone else's joy.

  • @Steerpikey It's a music video dude, geezz

  • @Steerpikey - so you say music is not universal and everybody should sing only their own cultural heritage and nothing else? do you feel the same when a japanese opera singer perform mozart?

  • @Steerpikey: My sentiments exactly.

  • @Steerpikey What a twat you are. Because a fuckhead like you decrees, no one may borrow and innovate from many traditions? Eat shit, if this had been 3 Mongolian singers performing the exact same piece of music, you would be fawning all over their innovation and blending of the traditional and modern. To conclude, your opinion is worthless shit. If you ever feel the urge to comment again, don't.

  • @BoustroBistro his (and mine) point is that the very descrition of the video states his as a superior level or fresh kind of performance, despite whatever mongols, inuits, japanese or whoever else tried and accomplished so far. He is arrogant in his pretention of re-invent something. Clear sign of one who has far to much to learn/ understand.

  • @Steerpikey If we all adhered to tradition, we'd all still live in caves. God save the Lungfish?

  • @Steerpikey Oh goodness, just take a pill and calm down! You use even more 3 dollar words than I do and with a lot less justification. The music is pretty and that's all that is required.

  • @Steerpikey um you seemto be very pretentious yourself

  • @Steerpikey LOLWUT

whatever man. music was done competently and no WASPs are trying to pass off as really "eastern". video's execution is obv. silly bullshit but i just cant agree with someone telling such decent singers not to touch a particular extraneous vocal style for "ethnic" reasons. or to only do it in a casual, informal atmosphere.

only the uptightest of old monastic blowhards would let this irk them, and they don't need white knights to protect their customs.

  • @Steerpikey Is your life so dull that you have to insult somebody who has done nothing more than create a video demonstrating something they enjoy? God help us all if we are reduced to "purity" and "authenticity." History does not look fondly on people and movements with that as a motivation.

Also, please show us all something that you have done that is not derivative of something else somebody has already done.

  • @Steerpikey Har har. You should start a band called Simulacra, and entitle your first album "...of Authentic Human Memes." While the video does reek of some tasteless aesthetic choices, "shameful rape" are pretty strong words, especially because - ha ha ha - I'm pretty sure you mean "shameless." I would suggest that the people who made the video are not full of shame, and therefore not "shameful."

  • @Steerpikey Also, by your ridiculous standard, non-Westerns, perhaps even everyone who doesn't speak English, should never ever perform Bob Dylan songs. Are you suggesting that's the case, because that is using the very same logic you're promoting here.

  • haha i love the guy kinda flailing at 3:08.

    satisfactory video... but beautiful music.

  • If they ever send more Voyager probes with more golden records, this should be considered for inclusion.

  • Strangely I can agree with that, and also I can not see how this Rollin Rachele could be "one of the world's leading authorities on the vocal art of overtone singing". He didn't get that impression from this video. I've seen other harmonic singing and Tuva throat singing videos and the performers there show more skill then Rollin...

  • i concur

  • Not really impressed with the video - but I absolutely love the sound of it. Beautiful.

  • its sooo beautiful!

    Its SOOO beautiful....

    its all i can say.

  • pete townshend? Not the who's pete townshend.... is it?

  • Very nice 'fusion' between the different singingstyles. It sounds really nice together.

  • lol @ hoodoo madness.

overtone harmonics are fascinating. and just so you know, i bounced in here on a link while listening to some buzzy minimal techno in the same key (~128bpm), it sounded so right together that i just let the impromptu mix ride.

thx fate! may fate and creativity be kind to all ~: )

  • love the discussion here you guys are awesome, and i know the essential co-operation of life is expressive itself everywhere... whether it be hoodoo fagness or yes silly nonsense for myself i relished in the recognizing of the same absorbsive bliss. in the sound and hand gesturing! a mixture of taichi and ecstatic expression (in my humble life experience-- that is which of how i relate) i'm sure we are all free to relate in ways that our honest for ourself! b rilliant video blessings!
  • I want what these guys are on!

  • The bodily motions disturb me, I want the music pure, not part of some hoodoo fagness.

  • Jouwl, it is your ignorance that is disturbing here. Because you are unfamiliar with this you have deemed it to be "hoodoo fagness". Somewhere else in the world there are people unfamiliar with what is normal and every day ordinary every day for you. Would you advise them to judge you in the same way you judge others in this situation?

  • Yes I think so, always question the rationality in the custom of others.

  • Jouwl - I don't think the video has anything to do with "rationality". Your "hoodoo fagness" comment was directed at their handmovements which, I think, are either an artistic element or have some meditative/spiritual/expressive aspect.

I think you owe them an apology.

  • Fine I apologize, hand movements are awesome.

But I still don't like it - and disliking or liking things is my right.

If my comment made someone sad, I demand you cease being sad and get happy instead.

  • Comment removed

  • I knew you were a good guy. Feel free to call the hand movements "silly nonsense" and we'll all just take it as your studied opinion.

  • Excellent.

  • Watchout Speilberg!

  • Fantastic!

  • Ohhhh, this music is so enchanting. I love this and played it several times. I couldn't watch the video though, because it made me giggle lots. I'm sorry. But its beautiful music. I so want to throat sing. Or even just be able to sing would be nice, LOL!

  • hahaha straight up best music video ever

  • love the music BUT......i coulda done without the video ahahahahaha! here's to hoping that it was a joke!

  • Yodel-ay-hee-hooooo!

  • musically i find this music very interesting, but i must admit you really made me laugh there xD

  • LOL! I find overtone singing beautiful...I'm teaching myself how to do it! I'm glad you have a sense of humor. :-)

  • Could have done without the video. Very corny very interesting vocals though.

  • Wow, now I want to buy Irish Spring soap... that's weird...

  • Lolol!

  • I find the video kind of dorky, but the song in itself is amazing.

  • Just what I was thinking. Ustad Mohammed Sayeed Khan looks like he's desperately trying to explain something XD. Rollin Rachele (or rollin' Rachel to me) looks like he's taking the piss out of T'ai chi

  • FKN AMAZING!

  • i actually think if your in the right mood this music is beautiful, but I couldn't help thinking the whole time...SNL ! LOL!

  • yea this sound took a little while to produce but I CAN'T CONTROL IT!! this song was amazing but come on people.. i understand your respect for the art but that video was a little over-the-top to say the least

  • I think he's saying bring me another beer,

  • haha man, this guy really must be rollin!

  • The sound itself is not that hard to make...

  • I'd be delighted if you showed us how easy it is to do.

  • I usually learn really fast how to do certain sounds... chek out my overtone videos. I started with over tone singing two weeks ago... I do it pretty much every day automaticly

  • The sound isn't I agree, but using it within a song is a whole different beast. I can sing like this aswell in different ranges but trying to sing a song is a little beyond my reach at the moment.

  • ppl is too far from source of that kind of singing/music, thats only problem here

  • love it ,, waves of emotions

  • hahaha the singing is cool but that video... what a bunch of hippies!

  • Dont like it. spoiled the mood by being too try hard.

  • Is this how mounteens communicated?

  • Anyone knows of other works of these three artists available on the Net? I couldn't find any... Thanks!

  • Jesus.

    Great singing and HORRIBLE video.

Please can we bring back radio.

This is the legacy of the MTV generation.

I am making "deep and meaningful" hand signs while writing this.

    Hallelujahbabble...

  • Yep! The video beats you to death!

  • I disagree. The hand motions are a form of art when it comes to the sense of song. Perfect video, perfect feel. They did a good job.

  • They were pretentious.

  • The problem is that the body language wasn't done properly, and looked unnatural and false. They should have made a better effort at the choreography.

But the singing is AWESOME nonetheless.

  • Not all cultures use the same body language. To 'them' it seems perfectly normal. Like when someone sings on stage for example. Should they just stand there with their hands in their pockets not to offend some in the crowd?

  • No, they should've made it look less hippie alternative, retarded and mushroom-addicted.
