  • personally i would just bring a box of matches

  • @foot175

Eventually you run out of matches and then what will you do? Text somebody on your iphone?

  • Now i have to go look for xGHOSTS comment...

  • bit late all of the water was gone before he start drinking lol

  • Hmmm...

  • Its amazing of how similar the technique is to the one used by Native American tribes, but its half way around the world!

  • The splashy water of the tree right after chopping the tree looks like a squirting pussy

  • i was quite surprise that Ray's fire starting tech was from the aboriginal.

  • So this is what causes bush fires in Australia, hmmm god damit!

  • the bbc sucks, this presenter sucks

  • It is amazing to see something humans did thousands of years ago and it must have taken equal time to develop !

  • @0.15 Squirt !

  • my firemaker level is OVER 9000!

  • why is the music from Koyaanisquatsi playing in the background?

  • my firemaking level is - 30, with a lighter it boosted to 60

  • my firemaking level is 99

  • Ray has alot to offer. His attitude towards survival: respect for the nature, the respect for the knowledge of indigenous people and his professional way of informing others about these long forgotten ideals of the past.

  • It amazes me how aboriginal tribes know were they are located in the outback as Australia is almost size of the United States and the outback has no signs roads or nothing to give you awareness of were you are.so now I know they use fire for position location.

  • It's amazing how the microwave generation so quickly talks shit... never having ventured further then the fridge and teli, they have a lot of opinions about life.

  • wait...did they just burn th.....o each morning. gotcha

  • ? whats with the sound affects? hes drinking a frew drops when it sounds like hes drinking a bottel? and what a wast couldt they have put a bucket near the tree? hes always saying water is hard to find and should be wasted?

  • Father: Children... have you started your daily wild fire yet today?

    Kids (unison): Yes daddy!

Father: Excellent, Good, good. Here have a big fat worm. Share it....

    ...

    ... I said share it!!

  • Natures d students

  • what a waste! all that water gushing out at the beginning and he waits til it drips to get a drink.

  • @Imprezziveness come on dude if he went for a drink when it was gushing we wouldnt be able to see how much is coming out they would have water with them he just had a couple drops anyway for the camera

  • @0416013321 really? we wouldn't be able to see it going in his mouth?

  • @Imprezziveness noway you are that stupid im going to outline it for your... Water gushing out on to floor shows how much is in there and how rapidly it comes out. water in to mouth only shows there is water in there you don't see how much is coming out because his mouth is not see through does this make sense to you? or are you 6 years old.....

  • @0416013321 Damn homie, take it easy. Are you Ray Mear's mom or something? Ok, so he wanted to show it to the camera. It's still a waste of water. Now take a deep breath and relax. I still like Ray Mears and watch his videos...sheesh.

  • @Imprezziveness oh i get it you finally get what ive been trying to tell you once i dumbed it down to a elementary level and realise how stupid you are then you think long and hard how can i get him to forget how much of an idiot i was and make him feel like the moron hmm. I know i wont agree with his comment or disagree but ill try turn it on him make him look angry then ill say that i still like ray mears so he wont point out how stupid i was.

  • @0416013321 Don't flatter yourself, man. I'm not saying I like Ray Mears to appease your dumb ass. Original post was "He's wasting water". Your post is, "Leave Ray Mears alone, he needs to waste water to show us". Reply was, "doesn't matter he's still wasting water". I just made a true statement, and you got your panties all twisted up in a bunch defending the video.

  • LOL @ wasting most of the water dude...

  • Ray should have put a bowl under that tree to collect the water when it came out. You can't afford to waste water, certainly not in the Australian bush.

  • Why am i watching this? i have a house :/

  • @amz565 lool

  • watering plants,then killing em.good plan.

  • The funny thing is the abbys didnt even know how to make their own fire till the settlers told them!

  • @dem0nthesis Um, actually, they did. Visit a library sometimes, maybe you'll learn something.

  • @dem0nthesis so you're suggesting that for thousands of years, the aboriginal people didn't know how to make fire? thats ridiculous, its like suggesting the moon is made of cheese; both illogical.

  • @dogfootrot189 uh, im not sure i follow your thinking, the abbys mostly got their fire from natural sources, if i am not correct the method in this video is the method the europeans used and most likely taught them.

  • thats just too big of a jump in so called "logical" thinking read encyclopedia dramatica, the Austrillian government covers up a lot of abby failures because to put it simple they feel bad for them

  • poor fellas having to hang out with a fat white pom

  • loads of water comes out but he still goes for the drops

  • aboriginals, bush craft, and philip glass. what a good combo

  • The camera man SKIPS the part where it shows HOW he brought fire on that small "nest". All I know is he created hot dust from the wood's hollow.

How did he transfer it? How did he know it was going to work, what visible signs before I guess he must have moved it to the nest?

    nice video thanks though

  • @roilggg the embers where on the knife. you can see at 1:32 the knife below so he just simply transfers with the knife

  • push down with your forhead with a hat on or something, so you can roll your hands back up without stopping the flow :)

  • I must learn this

  • they still use that pre-historic method to make fire these days?? LOL

  • what's the name of the tree he said? might be useful to remember in a case.. Thanks

  • 0:14 how much water did he waste?!?!

  • why the fuck did the black guy cut the tree?

  • these guys haven't heard of KCIO3 electrolysis yet.

  • That's bad ass! I've never seen a tree with water in it like that!

  • At first when they cut the trees lots of water spilled and then that guy drank the drops and then my cousin was like "IT'S CALLED GET A BOWL AND THEN DRINK IT WHEN IT POURS!"xD

  • good thing we have the thing called LIGHTER (=

  • 0:14 ... he just let go about quartet a gallon..

  • Some pretty damn paranoid people on the internet, that's for sure!

  • @spankMAbooTAY Im with you all the way i live in alaska and i plan to once i come of age to live off the land on a small island so those basterds wont even know im there....and i hope to bring freinds with me also im saving up now so when i become 18 i can buy shit loads of guns......for my defence then ill let everybody else do there own thing but thats my plan

  • Just because you live in a city doesn't mean you don't know how to survive off the land...

  • na i think ive learnt more from bear im sorry to say

  • BURN DOWN THE FOREST

  • @2:08 - what's the music being used here?

    Something by Philip Glass?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrPsyxxx it's music from movie koyaanisqatsi and yes it's by philip glass :)

  • @1postpwned

    Thankyou, much appreciated :)

  • Bear Grylles would kill an animal and eat it. Ray Mears would kill an animal, cook it, make his own plate with a nice pattern using nearby wood, gather some berries, remind a tribe of their lost art of fire making (he did that in one episode, not this one) and somehow make a cup of tea.

  • "Hi Im Ted Bear and today..."

  • it really annoys me when the guy is cuting thewood with his foot underneat. he may cut himself

  • Comment removed

  • did u realize wen the water from the tree was jus about to finish he goes for the water

  • thumbs up if you watched all 44 episodes or watever u call em.

  • Les Stroud is still the only one who survives for real. So many ridicules discussions on who is the best. All of them are interesting in their ways, grow up!

  • haha a bit late to drink the water

  • i don't know how many times i've seen this way of making fire

  • The aboriginal people of Australia are so cool! They were TRULY some bushcrafting people!

  • @SuperGamer87 That may be but now theyre a bunch of low life scum-false impression

  • When I saw that man pick up the hatchet while Ray was speaking, I was like "Oh no, Ray--look out! Dude's gotta hatc--oh..." LOL

And I love Ray Mears. I like Bear, too, for the entertainment factor (though Ray is very entertaining to me, too). I don't get why people debate over our own opinions.

But before both of these guys, there was Dick Proenneke. I just LOVE watching that dude! He can create a wooden house out of water and he once spit on the ground, and Chuck Norris grew from it.

  • if you like ray mears, you should search up 'Dick Proenneke Disc 1' on youtube

  • Fuck all of these guys. Fuck Bear, Bruce Parry, Ray Mears and Les Stroud. Helmut Schmutz from Germany is the most hardcore. Helmut commonly drinks his own urine and eats undigested seeds from fecal matter found on the forest floor. He refuses to touch anything man-made and all of his tools (including his obsidian knife) are produced by his own two hands.

  • @Masowai Um...I'd never eat undigested seeds from fecal matter on the forest floor. Unless you were a scatologist, you'd have little way of telling the condition of that animal. Wouldn't want to eat food from the scat of a diseased animal--may just make things worse. And drinking your own urine is impractice--urine makes you more thirsty than you were before you drank it! Also, there's nothing wrong with using a knife crafted while around civilization--even villagers make tools at home.

  • Aboriginals are damn awesome. I like how some of them kept their traditions, or at least part of them. Around here in europe we lost everything... Well, almost. I remember going camping as a child and my father picked up some plants and putting them in boiling water.. and we got some really good tea.

  • Most kids in the US can't even microwave mac n cheese without having to watch two episodes of sponge bob and downing four glasses of cool aid before screaming at their mom's to do it for them....

  • it's funny how we compare Ray and Bear but the are both from the same place. haha they are both British, so I guess that says something :D

  • I like how there are so many adventurers that making a living explaining how dangerous life is where peaceful people live

  • nowadays all boongs care about is sniffing glue and drinking goon and collecting welfare and stealing cars etc

  • @malice1488 That's an offensive and derogatory term. For one, that's definitely not true for every person in the Aborigine slums. I know white people who fit that description just as easy. And two, like most natives, they live in slummy conditions because they got robbed of their land and heritage of living richly of the land. It's the same damn thing with our native "Americans" here in the US, and some tribes in South America. It's a damn shame, because these people were true bushcrafters.

  • little pyromaniacs...

lighting the wohle bush on fire

  • wats the name of the tree guys???

  • Hahaha I want to be able to just lite stuff up

  • All you people saying Bear Grylls is fake are retarded -.- He goes into worst case scenarios to show you what to do to try and survive; survive in comfort? My ass, like you'll be chill stranded in the middle of the rain forest. Even if hes said to sleep in hotels, so what? He shows you how to make a bed out of animal skins which means if he had to he could probably do it himself if he wanted to. MAN VS. WILD IS JUST TO SHOW YOU HOW TO LIVE IN CERTAIN AREAS IT AINT A FUCKING SUPREME GUIDE TO LIVE

  • Does Al Gore know these people are setting fires?

  • he made one mistake in this vid and that was not to capture all that water.

But he makes excellent videos on survival.

  • the YOUNG PYROMANIACS!!!

  • Perfect,just what i needed! I now have a survival list.. =D

  • bg is a wanna be chuck norris, this is the order of holiness in this life, God, Jason Bourn, Jack Bauer, Chuck Norris, me, then every one else. lol! nice vids.

  • bear is a soldier, not a fake , hes a pro like really , hes as close to chuck norris as close cna human be , and he dont sleep in a hotel go get life dude xD this is the same

  • the children may have trouble lighting fires the traditional way. but they sure know what to do with it! *run around setting everything on fire* yep they know exactly what to do with it

  • 0:01

  • yeah burn it!!! put all that co2 in the atmosphere

  • @andree1991 Burning plant matter is neutral because they absorbed co2 when growing you stupid tree hugin hippie

  • thats what most people dont get, its best to have the same kind of stick...

  • How amazing..

  • 0:01 click to skip add

  • how is bear grylls fake ??he eats disgusting shit on each episode

  • @Sh4dowsUnited he did admit he was fake, but still hes awesome.

  • @Sh4dowsUnited eating disgusting shit doesn't make BG an expert in survival, and the risks he takes can get you killed in matter of seconds. would you go jump off a cliff into freezing cold fast running river if you were cold, hungry and desperate enough allready? and not to mention that not all people who might get stranded outdoors had a SAS training.

  • Amazing people! Amazing land! Pity it was taken off them by force and, as the Native Americans, Given little snippets of it to live on! We have a lot to answer for! I also like the Kitchen knife! No £400 bushcraft knife for this Man! It does the same job! Ha!

  • lil' bastards will start a forest fire

  • I know Bear Grylls is fake, but I like his show way more

  • I wonder how they made fire before they had knifes.

  • @0815tobey they would always have knifes if only made of flint

  • @superdonyoungy You know alot do you?

  • I personally watch both Ray and Bear's video's, Ray shows you what you can do with things, but Bear seems to be more useful in EXTREME situations (say, in an environment you've never been in before with hardly any kit and with no help)...

But really Ray's a shitload safer with his methods...

  • we must all get back to nature. i can hear more women than men crying...i hate cooking, i hate cleaning etc. i miss my mom. i hate bugs, I , I I rest assured ladies. you will become a woman of the earth! you will love it!!

  • that y there are more forest fires

  • As for the Aboriginals, most of them couldn't find their way back from McDonalds nowdays.

  • I like Bear AND Ray !!!!!!!!!!!! Yeh I said it !!!!!!!!!!!! I like watching both !!!!!! OMG are you allowed to do that?

I'd like to take both of them together some place remote and let them video the whole thing between them, not crew, just the two and a video camera each and find your way home lads.

  • @superdonyoungy That would be a great show!

  • @moleman1961 it would, wouldn't it, just dropped of in the middle of nowhere, not 5 k's from a hotel, but a long way out there and let them get back.

  • Comment removed

  • someone call the cops, that abo kid started the fire, we all saw it!

  • in the argument that is, Ray Vs Bear.. i like both, bear because he is entertaining, Ray because he is entertaining and teaching,

  • @xGH0STS if u combined the 2 they would make dave from dual survival

  • Both are good wih knowlidge in survival knowlidge, But I like Rays appreciation for indegenious people.

  • @xGH0STS

well, Bugs Bunny is entertaining too. That doesn't make him survival expert.

btw, google "BearWiki" and read around, please will you.

  • amazing

  • bear grylss is trained brit special force. to show how trained men in brits arm force do the survival. ray myers is doing documentary how to survive in any mean way as the native do. both of them special in their kind of way

  • Fuck Bear Grylls. Hoooray for Ray Mears

  • So much history - so little development. Quite primitive really.

  • To make something squirt... just hit it ;)

  • dumass let all the water spill out, then goes to lick up the last few drops.

  • so THAT'S why the little shits keep lighting my wheelie bin on fire! - tradition!

  • @shouldidoit Laughable, "civilization" is a overdramatized illusion, mundane uninspired destructive, pollutive, oppressive and depressing state of affairs. Insane Egomaniacs and their struggle for control essentially killing off themselves and the resources they sustain themself on simply to feel like they are in control and are important

List any important thing you do and it is gauranteed counter productive to the survival and ascension of people.

  • @MrCryospark hey ogabooga, we are evolving and will adapt. If not we shall perish!

  • Most of you probably think Ray Mears is a better survivalist which he probably is seeing he has more experience...But i personally think bear is still a good survivalist and he has gives an entertaining show

  • fuckin abos makin their bushfires

  • and thats how forest fire come to be

  • You guys have got it all wrong. Malcolm Douglas is easily better than Bear or Ray.

  • Native wisdom

  • mat! you wasted it.. you can only tap the tree once then it's no good mate! the Boy's should have told ya that.

  • Ray is a useless fat fuck. He wouldn't last 48 hours on a trek with Bear.

  • Nailed it!!!! and rays shows are more history than survival.Iknow who I would rather be with in a survival situation.ex-sas not fat red head

  • Mears is so racist! He makes a black guy chop wood for him while his fat ass is talking into the camera about drinking water out of trees and building fire.

  • is it really with water??????????

  • ray mears is fat.

  • @SaluteTheSummerDays Thats good so he wont starve.

  • Burning also enriches the soil.

  • Anybody know what kind of knife the old guy was using? I have a similar kitchen knife but his doesn't have as extreme a curve and looks handier.

  • The guy has white hair and its very fine like a white persons, wierd.

  • @Wudiduh Not at all. That is how Aborigines in Australia have always looked. They are a very distinctive looking people and the oldest population of humans outside of Africa. The lands the original migration took place in have been buried under rising oceans created by the end of the last major glaciation period.

  • you people are so blind about what bear does.He doesnt have to be real his main point is to show you what to do in a situation.all you guys think is that it has to be a real show to be "ok".bears show is more entertaining anyway even tho ray is better.

  • The US needs to make more fires like this. That way we don't have all the fires in CA and devastate everything.

Oh and Bears Gryylls is fake ass bitch.

  • forget about arguing which guy makes a real or fake show...

im more worried that the bastard wasted the water from the tree....

  • 0:17 hmm i guess there was water in there, shame its all in the ground now.

  • Comment removed

  • Bear grylls is a fake. All his stunts are set up. When Bear climbs down cliffs using vines he actually has a safety rope tied to him. He doesnt even spend the night in the wilderness, he sleeps in a hotel. Ray Mear is ten times smarter than Bear and could survive anywhere.

  • @andrewlan007 any proof of this i would love to spread that truth I hate fakes.

  • @andrewlan007 Bear Grylls isn't a fake. ha ha ^^;

  • @andrewlan007: Ohh a safety rope, they should see him dying for the camera... look at bears wounds in each episode, thats no fake... and you learn the same things, survival WITHOUT any help, ray use a lighter, bear does the aboriginal way (or with flint okay) you can't compare them... ray build a shelter standing for 7 years with an axe in some hours, and bear build a shelter in some minutes with his little knife, that are everytime 2 ways to do it

  • ray mears owns all but over bear or les bear owns les

  • @123bushcraft Bear is a Loser and dangerous!!

  • les stroud does it for real

  • les stroud is a retard tbh he doent know that much he dose stupid things that there is no need for like in one episode i saw him eat snow thats one of the worst things you can do it just cools ure core temp witch makes you colder

  • u have no idea what your talking about

  • @THEJOHNCLAYTON Not if you are Working or "moving" Les and Ray are the real deal

  • I think ray and bear kick ass

  • bear is not so good....Ray and les pwns!

  • bear will kick ur ass

  • i think he waited to long to get the water from the tree? O.o

  • That tree totally jizzed in his face

  • Ray is so much better imho than Grylls.

Ray shows survival isn't about being desperate & uncomfortable. Survival doesn't always have to be Hollywood extreme. Grylls is a showman, taking himself to extreme situations (or at least, taking him to motels near extremem situations) that any true survivalist would do everything to avoid.

Rule 1 - Look after yourself! Follow Ray and survive in comfort. Follow Grylls & risk wrecking yourself!
