@CasaCuevasFishing yellow rod is Skeet Reese Pitching Stick 7' 6" MH - blank is by Wright & McGill - has the S curve technology and I agree it is a really sweet rod, has become my fav frogging stick. The rod was not used in the video though so you must be asking from seeing it in another video?
Nice speck! They got those little buck-teeth. We catch them in abundance using top water and soft plastics down here on the Texas coast, striper not so much. love the vids, I watch them when I can't go fishing!
@GetBackToTheGarden thanx 4 watching and commenting - I grew up in lower delaware where weakfish were here by the millions until the 80's when they all but went extinct - there are subtle differences between weakfish and speckled trout - both have the vampire teeth, both have spots, both are yellow inside their mouths - I tthought the fish in the video was a weakfish and that is why i was so shocked to see it! ive been told by experts that it was indeed a speck - thanx again
Thanks for the note. You really know how to enjoy your fishing. That is a talent in itself. Definitely a spec. I spent some time living in North Carolina and caught many. They make an appearance in the mid Atlantic area in the late fall every year but are caught only by a few who target them and have their "spots" staked out. It was a great catch. (and release) Don't erase your video. That's a real"bragger". Chuck
I tried to post once before with no success. Great video! great observations and patience that I lack. We have a place on Fourth St so i felt like I was riding along with you. That trout is a better catch that you state. it is a speckled trout which is even less common than weakfish. Specs are not that numerous up this far so that was a terrific catch to get on camera. Maybe I will get to introduce myself at some point and I will be keeping up with your trips here. Chuck
@MrFredthecow sure thing Chuck - thanx 4 watching. My #1 surf fishing buddy who has vast experience going back 40 years also suggested the trout was a spec. I researched online and found that the difference is hard to distinguish even from photos of both species. My friend said specs have bigger and fewer spots and their spots tend to be more circular and have a thin orange ring around them and that weakfish have more and smaller spots that are elongated without the colored outer ring. Thoughts?
@mtednby21 from the beach yes i generally let the bucktail sink to bottom and jig along the bottom. if no hits after a half hour or so i change the retrieve and swim the bucktail thru the water column at different depths, retrieve speeds and jigging actions. obviously when you are fishing over rocks or riprap you cannot let the bucktail sink to bottom or you'll lose it pretty quick to snags. thanx 4 watching.
@brianmoc yeah i had it with me and thought about it but the fish were so small i didnt bother. when some better fish are around ill be throwing it brother!
nice! i havent seen ANY weakfish caught in the past 5 years in capemay, and i fish everywhere down in capemay when im down there. So great catch! Also nice to see them stripers, sometimes quanity is better then quality haha :P
@surfFishingGuy yeah it was a great surprise for me too - so much that i made a fool of myself reacting to it and that is where i muted the video a couple seconds - would love to see weakfish rebound like they used to be - thanx 4 watching Joe!
@surfFishingGuy well i wasnt in the mood to fight the rocks inside the inlet for the bigger fish - when i go in there i have to use heavier tackle and was not planning it so the 8ft tica and light reel etc were not suited for inlet fishing - always fun to catch fish even the little ones when they are hitting!
what type of rod is that yellow one it is really nice looking and i has got action nice fish
