Benson, AZ and Pahrump, NV... I did both on my last visit to the States, just because of Dark Star and Mars Attacks. Both towns are a bit of a dissapointment though ;) , but, hey, who cares, I was there. :)
R I P Dear Dan... From just one more fan. Your tales brought plenty O' smiles... Your humor made many a O'Bannon-philes. You had a way about you... that folks just couldn't chew. Cuz they was spoon fed every memory... Needing the plots to be spelled out for free. Enjoy confounding that big Man in the sky... Even he needs to be shook up and made to cry... ;)))
My favorite band is Pinback and it's very cool how many sound bites they got from this movie. Not to mention it is a deep movie that represents the band well...imo
was sitting out in the neutral zone between saudi kuwait and iraq before the ground offensive, played this song right before the big move, had it blairing out of my Hmmwv great song for the kick off!
My second try at posting Cal Kuniholms obituary. He played Boiler in this film. He died on November 26th 2008. Dark Star was his only acting credit....he was studying engineering at the same Uni as John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon.
I have been corresponding with Brian Narelle who played Doolittle. He hadn't heard of his co-stars death before I mentioned it.
Easily one of the greatest movies ever made. The lowbudget/ cheesiness of it all actually makes it better more entertaining. Absolutly love this song, too. I think it fits the mood of the entire film perfectly!
I wathced this film endlessly on Betamax in '81 and '82 with a friend of mine and we still talk about it. I researched the cast on the internet this week and I am currently in coversation with Brian Narelle who played Doolittle. Unfortunatly the man who played "Boiler" Cal Kuniholm died in November at just 59.... and it was I who let his former co-star know.
The film was rewritten by Dan O'Bannon (Pinback) as the basis for "Alien" and if you deconstruct both films the simalarities are clear.
A terribly underrated sci-fi movie. The only movie in the sci-fi genre that raises the possibility that space travel can be stupefyingly dull and make you nuts, and eventually careless. No exciting Star Wars or Star Trek stuff here. Just Boiler trimming his beard, Pinback reading his pulp magazines and Talby staring into nothingness. Love it.

A fantastic movie. There are so many quotes, so many scenes, how could anyone pick one as the best?
"You are about to exit the ship. Have a nice day."
"Didn't he tell this story 4 years ago?" "No, I think it was 4 years ago."
I don't know if I remember these exactly right, but still, so funny.

I too am a die hard fan of this movie and it's awsome theme song....to here that the actor who played Boiler has passed, is sad news indeed.

I loved this movie! My favorite part of the movie:
"What's Talby's first name?"
".....What's MY first name?!"

I love this movie so much! I loved it when I was 8, loved it when I was 18, and I'm 38 now and it's still one of the best.

Greg Jein, one of the guys on the special effects crew for this movie, went on to work on Star Trek The Next Generation.
