By the time I saw them do this song on that tour it was just Bono and Edge doing an acoustic with it, it was brilliant. I'm pretty sure Staring At The Sun isn't on the video release of th Vegas Show, now we know why, lol.
This camera looks like B roll that somebody got their hands on, I love this type of stuff.
Ok, they are people and they are not imune to mistakes too, btw it is the first concert of popmart tour, although they should've practice the song better before..
What's really pissing me off are the people working with cameras here, worst filming never saw before! I would catch that filming better with my own hands for god sake.
I was at the U2 Popmart concert when I went to Vegas for the second time. My mom and I were in the nose bleed section but it was the best concert ever!!!!!!!!! I was age 8 or 9? 22 now
Music, like everything else in life, is build from trial and error. It was the first concert, they messed up, but later in this tour this song was one of the be live version they did.
Seems Edge started the song at ~107bpm (beats per minute), whereas the album (studio) version is 139bpm. A massive difference.
Bono matched the slower tempo perfectly, but found it hard to work the chorus at that speed.
Second time Edge started playing at 162bpm (lol!), and then the song slowed to 150bpm over time.
It's a complex tune, and I think all the instruments pulling the song toward different timings, along with the very slow starting tempo, caused the confusion.
Too fast Bono, too fast. No let's be honest I'm a musician myself, I've fucked up many times playin' live. This was their first night so let us not be to critical.
Las Vegas Popmart was the opening night of this tour. This performance was so heavily panned by critics that it caused poor ticket sales for a good part of this tour in the US.
Bono was right when he said Pop was the most expensive demo ever produced. I have never heard this live with the whole band, just with Bono and the Edge with 2 acoustic guitars. And I can see why!
Once they got it going, it went great.
The problem with this song is that it's too complex for Bono to play with his own guitar and he basically can't keep up with the click track.

Staring at the sun is one of U2´s best songs. They played it wrong because it´s obviously a very complicated song with many layers.
This great song alone beats the last two bubble gum pop albums (All that you can leave behind and How to dismantle an atomic bomb).
I want to hear many songs from Pop on their next tour. Otherwise I´m going to be very disappointed.

Crap! First version obviously too slow - second try, too fast. You would've thought they would get this stuff right for the first show!

when they did eventually get going...it wasn't too bad!!!!

My mistake! Bono was the one with the acoustic guitar setting the tempo.
Trust me to listen to the music while surfing other sites.

When I mess up this is what to watch, even the best have mistakes and "family rows."

so is it Bono's fault that they messed up the timing? because he was playing at a different tempo the 2nd time around.
Who's filming this?
i CANNOT belive that they booked a tour before they finished the album. Especially this tour!
