  • One of the greatest players of all time, Wilko.

    Sad to hear his retirement.

  • OK, thank you to everyone who responded to my comment.

My mistake, has it was not a red card offence back then, good luck everyone for the forthecoming six nations season.

  • so in todays game is that a red card????

  • Im a Welsh supporter and Warburton's was a red card... according to the law, do i think it warranted a red card NO and nor do i for Wilkinson's. There needs tobe less focus on these, my question is why aren't tackles in the air all red cards? oh yea because they asses the situation, the damage (if there is any) and then make a decision.

  • This wasn't a red as per the laws in 2003.

  • Warburton did not know how his man would land.

    neither did wilkinson.

    Both red cards.

I am an ardent welsh supporter, but i have to say both tacles (warburton and wilkinson ) were red cards.

Be hoest people no matter who you support.

  • @210357tommy Didn't have the spear tackle rule back then. Perfectly OK for the time. Funny how it looks so bad now.:))

  • @210357tommy It isn't a red card because the law on spear tackling didn't exist, but unfortunately now, this is deemed to be so dangerous that it must be red... which is ridiculous.

  • @210357tommy in todays game it was a red card, back then it wasn't

    June 2009 IRB ruling

"The player is lifted and then forced or “speared” into the ground. A red card

should be issued for this type of tackle.

The lifted player is dropped to the ground from a height with no regard to the

player’s safety. A red card should be issued for this type of tackle.

For all other types of dangerous lifting tackles, it may be considered a penalty

    or yellow card is sufficient."

  • now that would be a spear tackle and he would get a red

  • Too bad Johnny Wilkinson couldn't get England into the Semi Finals.

  • Pretty much the same thing happened today and Sam Warburton got sent off ruining Wales' chances of reaching the final. Stupid ref.

  • @OfficialArma nah warbutons was far worse, clerc was dropped on his neck, yellow for sure. wales's performance with 14 men was one of the most gutsy performances i have evr seen. and i'm an all black fan

  • Justin 'Spade' Bishop. Jonny looks like he's about to dig a hole with his face.

  • LOL, title's a bit of an over reaction for tackle.

  • Just reading some of the comments. Conclusion?

Who the fuck cares? You're all a bit gay if you ask me

  • ..........in a spat over a job description for a performance director. Not only that, but these GBP 300,000 a year fucktards are so utterly useless that they have decided to hire 4 long retired players including a carpenter and a pilot to draw up a job description for them. Not even Buster Keaton could come up with that one. Dont ever wonder why we cant play rugby. If the head is sick, the body follows. Incidently NZ has a population of 3 million. Maybe we should all be embarrased??

  • @chanctonbury63 new zealands population is 4.4 million just pointing it out

  • Ahahah we have our own Johnny now!

  • Jonny is always good on defence , Carter one of the few 5 8 that takes and gives !

  • was one of m8 was ! flood is way better NOW !

  • you have to admit, jonny wilkinson is one of the best rugby players in the world.

  • incredible hit

  • All you dicks saying England are terrible. Who's the only northern hemisphere team to win the world cup!!!!! And look who's doing brilliant this six nations 2011!!!

  • @CTothill For the last 7 years they have been awful, bloody awful. Over the last 18 months or so they have finally put in a few good performances at last, but against Samoa, S Africa and Ireland they were still woeful. The worst aspect of this was that they didnt turn up against Samoa, then they had a week to deal with that one and put things right, but instead of that they came back to Twickenham and just served up the same crap again.

  • @chanctonbury63 still dicked you guys in Aviva - Ireland and Leinster, 4 million population? pretty embarrassing you cant beat us

  • @killmcc English rugby is embarrasing anyway. 2 useless coaches in 7 years. Having picked pensioners for 3 years Johnson has somehow finally got himself a group of excellent young players. Now we can clearly see he does not have a clue how to get the best out of them. Not only is it extraordinary that the RFU hired him in the first place, but also that he accepted the job at all. You couldnt make it up. The latest from the old farts at the RFU is that they have fired their chief executive.......

  • @chanctonbury63 don't forget Brian Ashton did get us to a world cup finaL! :)

  • chanctonbury63 Ashton got England to a world cup final and Andy Robinson is a very good coach. Look what he did at Edinburgh while he was there and Scotland are playing better than they have for a long time and also he won a world cup. If your gonna talk trash then dont bother posting stupid comments.

  • @MrSRA13 Robinson was an awful England coach. Who said anything about Scotland?? Robinson returned a 40% win/loss ratio with England, oh yes and he lost his last 8 games in chrge. Apart from that he was fucking great. Do your homework then maybe youll stop spouting trash all over this site.

  • @chanctonbury63 I wasnt referring to his poor england record. I was referring to the fact that you said he was useless. Having had him coach firsthand he is not a useless coach so no homework required im afraid. Maybe on your behalf. Its over critical people that ruin this sport so lets just try and enjoy the fucking game without 'spouting trash' yeah.

  • @MrSRA13 Over critical people do not ruin this sport. Boring grinding predictable rugby ruins this sport and when Robinson was England head coach they served it up in spades. In fact just the sort of crap they have served these past 2 weekends against Wales.

  • @chanctonbury63 Thats true, I couldnt agree more actually. Although you have to admit that a powerfull maul or scrum done well is entertaining. I dont find watching Wilkinson hitting drop goals boring either although everyone would love to be able to play like the all blacks.

  • @MrSRA13 You can have a powerful scrum AND play the game at pace. Its not an either/or. The 2003 team were proof of that.

  • @killmcc haha id say ireland and leinster are pretty good teams so not really embarrasing. NZ has a small population but manages its Rugby really well, its religion basically and id imagine rugby in ireland is a big deal also.

  • @CTothill The World Cup win was 8 years ago. Whats that got to do with now? Answer. Nothing. Since 2003 England have posted a 40% win/loss ratio which for a country with our huge player base is nothing short of a disgrace. Very `English` this creative optimism.

  • @chanctonbury63 You mean our player base scattered across more teams than any other country? With the worst governing body this side of the sun?

  • @Talbot6832 Except France, but not with the Heineken Cup. You are right about the RFU and they are in many ways more important than the players in the sense that if the head (management) is sick the body (employees/play/company/whatever) will follow. One of the things I had hoped this whole Johnson and finally World Cup would precipitate would be the implosion of the RFU and for once my dream came true!

  • @CTothill Might want to revisit this comment after there RWC 2011 campaign. Bit of a disgrace mate.

  • @CTothill Yeah, things are going great!

  • @CTothill yes "this" six nations.

  • @CTothill Wow! One Championship since 2003. One World Cup? Very convenient to ignore the other half of the World.

  • id like to see him do that to tommy bowe now lol

  • This was all before the whole thing about it being 'your responsibility to bring the man down safely'.

    @fuckupyourmouth

I can understand wanting to retaliate but it should have been done within the laws of the game. Retaliate with a good but fair tackle, or by running over him when you have the ball. Not by teaming up with someone and almost breaking them in half.

    @ adrianosull

It's not a spear tackle, the guys hips hit the ground before anything else does.

  • @StandCorrected His shoulders clearly hit first, but it still isnt a spear tackle

  • @DerkaDerka66 On second thoughts I think you're right. no way a dangerous tackle, however.

  • It was inbetween both, if the ref was in a bad mood he could have got in a lot of trouble for that tackle...

  • Saywearegoingup: Thats a spear tackle

  • @adrianosull thats a dump tackle actually

  • johnny is awesome

  • Terrible tackle

  • @Chorltonian if that was a terrible tackle... then how the fuck do you tackle, thats probly one of the best ways to tackle, as a prop, thats how i o, as long as you go down with them, no penalities, happy days.

  • @djmurgo I'm surprised he didn't get penalised,its a spear tackle

  • @Chorltonian Like to see you play proffessional rugby and do a better tackle against one of the world's best teams.

  • wow picking up and spearing a smaller guy........

  • @ronaldoforthewin That was in no way a spear. the Irish player turns himself and Wilkinson practiacally puts him on the ground no downward force, no lifting then throwing. A good clean tackle.

  • jonny is shite compared to the likes of Shane Williams! besides jonny is always injured

  • @pcjoel999 whos shane williams

  • @pcjoel999 Jonny is only injured a lot because he throws himself into tackles like this

  • @twotellys12 watch more rugby asshole ! England have played some of the best rugby in history ! You just don't like seeing them winning. Wilkinson is the best thing thats ever happened to english rugby ! And it's not just his golden boot ! He's a pure thinker ! He's one of the top players of all time ! A legend !

  • lol hahaha do yee remember ireland-43 vs england-13 lol

  • Comment removed

  • I think the problem with England is that they just don'y know what their doing, Ireland has a style, as do Wales, Australia, New Zealand even Scotland and Italy, but England, in my opinion, just rely on strenght and...aren't aware of any real phase of play in game if that makes sense, prob'ly not. Whent their good, their brilliant, but that's far too rare.

  • Jonny we love you yes we do.

  • Justin Bishop coaches me, he's awesome :)

  • textbook

  • verging on a spear tackle

  • well i thought it was actually quite good

  • Note to Tan Umunga: this is how you tackle hard but far rather than drop the player on his head.

  • note to tanga umaga: observe how the player is also holding the ball

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp thats still an illegal tackle lol, johny lifted him up and didnt bring him down, he drove him down, it didn't look so bad cause the tackled player managed to stay horrizontal, luck more than anything else lol, tanas was no diff in my book,

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp That was about disrespect i believe. Still a bit over the top, but its like if umaga came to your country and dissed the national song or whatever you guys do, someone would retaliate. The haka to us is much more than i guess you guys give it credit for. It means alot, and it gives us pride seeing our boys out there going hard for their country. You just dont disrespect that. You just dont.

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp Tan Umunga? You sound like a faggot.

  • @eRaGoN0dRaGoN how many rugby world cups has Tana Umaga won? You sir are the fag.

  • @Veneratio10

I dont think that was the point

  • @eRaGoN0dRaGoN Coming from the guy with 'Dragon realm' as there youtube title, give me a break you contradicting bastard.

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp Its TANA not TAN and that was once just like Jonny Wilkinson making a tackle. If you watch it again at 0:08 even he is surprised that he found the smallest guy on the field.

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp .. you fucking idiot ! im from ireland ,and a proud irish supporter but i still cannot fuckin stand people going on about that tackle, yes i said it TACKLE.. it wasnt a spear he lifted him and bod just fell arkwardly , accidents like that happen everyday in rugby .

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp who the fuck is Tan Umunga?

  • @SayWeAreGoingUp haha still cant get over it puftas

  • rugby you fruit

  • No i saw some1 with name like that but on a soccer field.:S

  • South Africa suck donkey balls. you won beacuse we didn't ge that try we played beter than you and we were the better team you got lucky. HABANNA SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JASON ROBINSON WAS BETTER (FACT)

  • YEAHH!!!!!!

  • you didnt get that try because it wasnt a try...his toe hit the line

  • don't lie

  • Thats a pretty awful statement there. South Africa were the best team in that world cup and deserved to win. We were outplayed pretty much all game and it was not a try because his foot was in touch (as bad as that is to say). If only it hadn't been!

  • I personallly cannot remember the final in 2007 as it was the most boring final i have ever seen

  • Yeah I agree, I final won on kicks with NO tries isn't exactly a spectacle

  • Oh dear kid - you are too young. How many you seen? 3. The only decent final was 2003. Others have been boring or 1 sided., 2007 was 2nd best. 87 NZ too strong. 91 - Aussies played like England (who tried to play like France???) & Aussies won. 95 historic but boring disappointing final SA won. 99 - see 87 (Aussies not NZ)

I am an England fan and Ireland are my 2nd team and my Dad was at Landsdown in early/mid 70s when England team played Ireland. Read you Rugby history son - my folks r Irish.

  • em if you look at most of the comments on this video they all seem to agree with me...the 2007 final was boring because you knew what England's game plan was from the start...get the ball up to the other half, get a penalty and Johnny will drop it over..because the Rugby World Cup has only been around for 20 odd years with only 6 finals so you can't really compare in a sense...I have seen 4 out of the 6 finals and they were all pretty poor, because you all knew what the teams plans were gonna be

  • You wouldn't say that to my face you numpty - which part of UK piece of shit am I. Supporting the team of my birth? Being born in a country you don't like or having the dignity to point out the brilliant reception the English team received at Landsdowne Road when all the shit had kicked off in the North in early 1970's.

  • um fact south africa arent shit and we lost cause we were awful and boring and predictable. we were lucky to get to the finals south africa made us look dumb so if there shit we r a bag of shit.

  • Prepare to be raped in the mouth for the next four weeks.

  • @siyabulela365 Bang goes that theory, huh?! lol

  • "nice 1. chek out my own tackles on rugby tackle sonny and cal on you tube"

  • Thats alright...check out samoan assassin...my bro at college

  • man he's some player, lions need him or o'gara

  • Or Stephen Jones. ;) Haha

  • he did play like a man posses in this match, where's the rest of his highlights?

  • im irish and ya have to admit that that was a sweet tackle. your not a true rugby fan if ya dont appreciate that.

  • too right mate. Though im sure being Irish at the mo in the rugby world it's easy to be sympathetic victors! We nearly had you though! doh lost by a point Grr! well done ireland all same! Well fought Grand slam!

  • It was very close to a spear tackle but doesn't matter, now that "Wilko" is gone, England have have gone to shit since they can't depend on him to score penos and drop-kicks all the time.. Ireland have beat yer ass like 5 out of the last 6 years in the 6 nations, including this year 2009. It was 14-13 but should've been like 30-13

  • Lol. England gave away 3 times as many penalties as Ireland yet you could only beat us by one point. Just remember who has the biggest tally you bog brained shite.

  • Just rem who won the most games. Better luck next year, shit stick

  • close to a spear...whoever said that has to be fuckin jokin like.

  • Jonny Wilkinson - Don't worry about playing like a man possessed. Just try playing like Dan Carter.

  • hahahahah that was such a good call

  • He has got a big winners medal at his home that Carter may never get-especially post injury.

  • what r u chatting about he killed them both in 02/03, home and away!!

  • This is why Cipriani has a long way to go.. He does not tackle.. Wilko is still dangerous..

  • not a spear because wilko went to ground with him

  • 'Dangerously close to being a spear'? You having a laugh?! Grow a pair and stop being such a faggot.

  • green man wriggling like an ant...

  • i remember that.

  • Why do folks who obviously haven't taken a tackle in their life get on the "spear" bandwagon. It was an upward driving, textbook tackle. A Spear is when a guy is PICKED up, NOT tackled, and turned so that they are UPSIDE down/vertical then driven into the ground head or neck first. Scares me to death if folks who call this a spear ever get tackled!

  • wilko's great but it seemed he was trying to spear tackle there

  • wouldn't call it a spear tackle as bishop was on his side and wilkinson hardly rammed him down like umaga did with o'driscoll. he was in full control all the way throgh. bishop went to my school in sussex, plastic paddy!

  • wen it wuz england agenst aussie i think he saved the fuckin day wid a last minuite score

    wot a epic player :P

  • what the fuck do you know about rugby? you don't even play it in your country

  • I'wouldn't call one (almost spear) tackle being possesed

  • looked dangerously close to being a spear

  • nice, credit when its due your boy can sure tackle.

  • managed to turn him too, shit that is nice

  • Wilko is England's hero.
