@HevyToy being shorter can actually help in wrestling because you can have a lower base than your opponent and have more leverage when taking them down
Im pretty sure romans started wrestling. It's said they would wrestle naked though. Y'know Mano a Mano kind of stuff. Im not trolling either, they really would.
What is "real" wrestling??? Turks didn't create "real" wrestling... Every country and culture on earth have their own "wrestling" Mongolians have wrestling. Chinese "Shuai Jiao" Japanese "Jujitsu" Korean "Hwarangdo" Greco Roman Wrestling. Egyptians, Germans even have their own form of wrestling. South American tribes, North American Native Indians have games in which the first to touch the ground loss. Every culture has many ofthe same moves, cause we all have the same body...
Good video. Personally, I learnt a lot from that short clip.....probably because I don't come from a wrestling background but want to develop more of a knowledge base in it.
Question for anyone with a wrestling background: Judo, jujutsu, etc. stress that their arts are designed for a smaller person to easily neutralize a larger opponent through technique. Does wrestling offer the same promise to its practitioners, or is it strength PLUS technique versus strength PLUS technique?
This was my first year wrestling and i had no idea how hard it is. I am naturally fairly muscular, and i thought that was all i needed. I got killed in my first match because I relied on strength. As the season went on, i learned more moves and got better. Strength is very helpful but if you want to be a good wrestler you need to know moves.
As your shooting in for a take down, is it still proper technique to put your head in the middle of his torso instead of to the side of it.
The reason I ask is because I do Brazilian Jiu JItsu and I worry that if I put my head to the side of my opponent's body, he will go straight for a guillotine choke.
Man, I am from ex-USSR and I am really liking this teacher. Where is he located? I live in the US, in IN. I would love to take classes with him. Please let me know where you are located.
Of course you can. You can use Karate sweeps when you're in the clinch. Just put one of your free legs behind your opponents knee caps and pull forwards and lean on them.
remember to always keep your head up in wrestling. You may already realize this but from muay thai, you'll always want to keep your head down rather than up. get rid of the bad habit.
@jvn753 that is true, when conditioning for high school wrestling, coaches the always make you keep your head up, or you run the risk of having to run even more
No Bro you cant use the Muy Thai cling to immobilize the persons neck. the muy thai clinch is legal during practice sure you can use it....but in a competition you can not.
iv been wrestling for 9 years now and have done muy thai kick boxing for 12 years.
I agree the Russians are first-class when it comes to wrestling/sambo. Thanks for sharing - also cool that you're raising the profile of wrestling in the UK.
Russians are the best in the world in wrestling. They've proved with complete domination at the 2008 Olympics. It would be a HONOR to train and learn from those guys.
but the best wrestlers are georgians :D :D :D

Always remember to dip your knees one the double leg. It is what makes the move work. It gives you as much power as coming off the d line.
