I don't think the West prefer Khmer much at all. Retationship between US and Kampuchea really went sour after the Vietnam War, as US did not like Sihanouk who would not back US occupation in Kampuchea to fight Vietnam. King Sihanouk kept his kingdom neutral in the War and US did not like that at all. Why do you think Khmer Rouge ruled for almost 4 years and the West (US/ UN/ etc.) did not intervene-- US seem to intervene in whatever that is to the best of US interests, not Khmer.

Besides, I don't think there is school where people who want to work in Music industry can go to have the education. Though, there is the royal university of fine art and...(don't remember).
