Some of my first tying instructions came from your videos and they were very useful. Thanks, your lessons were very pleasant to follow. I have quite a while ago learned to manually whip-finish my tying efforts, but I doubt I could duplicate your finishing knots. I think those finishing hitches are quite beyond the ability of the average beginner to follow.
@CarlNS1 obviously ugly yourself... why post this you stupid, selfish, ugly little cretin go find some friends instead of spending ur life insulting others on you tube.
wow i am 13 and i am really interested in fly fishing. i have only tied few buzzers but i have got to say it is so much more satisfying catching on your own flies! and my next aim is to fly the Montana Nymph!!
Hi Dave! Love watching these videos. Here in the States we call head varnish "head cement". Catching fish with flies i tied myself is a bit more satisfying. Here in Connecticut just downstream from a reservour in a semi deep gorge i catch Walleye with weighted Woolley Buggers.Black is most productive but i have caught many fish with other colors. I used my cats hair for dubbing and some say cat being a predator is a problem. Have any thoughts on this?
Excellent series, Mr. Cammis! I had considered tying my own flies for quite some time but the explanations I've read in books were kind of confusing. These videos are very clear. Thanks!
I am indeed flattered to get a personal response. I did "tackle" tying this particular pattern after watching your video a few times and getting my gear together and organized. This past Sunday I was able to catch two very nice blue gills from some flooded weeds, as well as the back of my right ear. (I was a bit excited about catching a fish on my own fly and fumbled my cast!) I always mash the barbs, though, so both fish and I were easily released.
@gergorymoore Excellent videos!! Your lessons have been the most informative of any I have found on the net. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Please tell me what brand of vise you are using in your video. Thank you, John S.
when i tie this i normaly put some flash in the tailand i dont weight it and i use green hackle wound round the thorax sounds weird but it works very well for rainbows n big browns
Here in the States we call it "head cement". A name brand, Flexament. Get the smaller size as it almost always dries out in the bottle before i use it all.
Your Instructions are the best I have seen. I am glad that I live on a farm, I get feathers for free. I have been thinking about selling some. By the way its nice to see teenagers like GaFlyGuys into Flyfishing.

It's so refreshing to find well thought out, informative videos on You Tube. A welcome change to the 99.5 percent garbage out there. Thanks!

Question:
Can nail varnish be used for the head varnish?
Cheers
Paul.
talbot312 2 years ago
nail varnish/polish is acetone. can disolve some materials on contact. Spend the extra pound.
jrpaint62 2 years ago
Hey Jr
Can you recomend a varnish, such as a brand or that?
Cheers
