Joran Dax - the Star Trek version of Hannibal Lecter.
and Avery Brooks plays it really, really well: you feel instantly that it´s not Sisko talking here, but a very dangerous, cunning & mentally insane character. he´d cut your throat while smiling.
who said that Star Trek doesn´t have good actors??
I love this show folks, and if you enjoy Avery Brooks' acting, I have no problem with that at all. But in my opinion, his acting was fairly weak overall, and this is one of his scenes that I don't think contains strong acting. This type of role requires very high level acting which I don't think Brooks has, even though i do believe that he puts a lot of effort into his roles.
@darkcyeote Lol, they should have used more Kirk Fu moves. Jadzia could have grabbed the top of the door frame and choked Sisko/Joran with her legs. Then, a slow flying shoulder block and a double-handed weak punch to the lower back and it's game over!!!
Instead of Sisko they should have had someone small & weak to be a body for Joran, seeing how Joran was a complete psycho killer & all. & having a Betazoid there to make sure Sisko had really taken control would have been nice too.
@mysterio5005 Interestingly enough, this was the second take for that scene. The first was apparently too creepy for the director, so they had to redo it. Considering how creepy this version is, take one must have been sheer, unadulterated Nightmare Fuel...
@Diannalover This is taken from the Star Trek Deep Space Nine Companion- The scenes involving Sisko as Joran had to be shot twice because the producers were unhappy with the first set of dailies. The reason for this was they felt that Avery Brooks' performance was too creepy. According to visual effects supervisor Gary Hutzel, Brooks spoke in an almost inaudible whisper that "literally sent shivers up your spine".
Reminds me of when Tuvok mind melded with Suder. You wish these guys would get to do more creepy shit *outside* of a force field.

Avery Brooks hasn't appeared in anything since the shitty 2001 movie 15 Minutes.
FUCK YOU, UNIVERSE!!!

@NotQuiteRight The problem is Avery Brooks is, at least now, completely and utterly batshit insane. We're talking beyond Busey levels of crazy.
