Just by getting rid of the update won't help you guys.

The best thing to do is restore your computer to a restore point before you got the windows illegitimate message. Then go to Windows Update and stop the automatically updates so you can pick what you want to install so you won't get this illegitimate message again.

@wavefiat No matter if you uninstalled the update you won't be able to get rid of it that easy. What you could do is to use the system restore tool and put that OS into a very early stage then use the disk clean up to get rid of other restore points just in case or if not just reinstall the complete OS.

Me and my buddy downloaded Windows7 on our notebook computer and it runs beautifully. We dled it from Windows7FreeDLXcom (replace X with . ) and it installed perfectly.

for those who have this update.... Go to start>control panel>programs>uninstall a program and on the left navigation bar select "View Installed Updates" then find KB971033 , it is the only update with no Publisher... Right click it and uninstall update, restart your computer, turn off automatically download and install updates and you will be good :)

@leftycool It is caused by a dll file that controls explorer.exe that signifys a pirated copy. I will work to find this dll and reverse engineer it so it will not do this again, give me a few days and I can get back to you. If you notice, explorer.exe brings up the genuine prompt now as it used to be a program easily accessible and moved

tried many method mentioned to remove this update and its effects but nothing seemed to work. but i was able to successfully get this update off my computer by using WAT remover 2.2 after uninstalling the update and rebooting then hiding and unchecking the update and then i disabled windows updates. this method seemed to for me with having to reinstall

this happened to me today.

all i did was hold my power button and then when the computer was turning on, I held F8 and went to my system options, entered my password then went back a day before the update. After that I restarted my computer and turned off my system updates, and hid the activation verification update from my computer. Now when my computer does a search for updates, I can read the description of them and find the activation ones so it will never happen again. Problem solved!

Id bought legally a Windows 7 Ultimate!! ik gave me some windows update warnings but i ignored them.
