@totalgirl24 Becouse she is desguised like boy in the novel so she can go to Marius in the barricade and in the novel she dies saving Marius by taking bullet for him

Sam was great as eponine really liked her and nick was good too but he needed to hold her right i mean ''JUST HOLD ME NOW AND LET IT BE ,SHELTER ME COMFORT ME'' and he is holding hers finger xD
this is my favourite musical, and my favourite characters are Gavroche and Eponine. no matter how often i watch this musical i always end up crying at Eponines death (and Gavroche's) this version is no exception :'-)
Please tell me I'm not the only person who wishes Marius had fallen in love with Eponine, his childhood friend, instead of Cosette, whom he spent a day with before deciding that she was the one...
Also, Gavroche is one of the best comedy-relief characters I've EVER seen. XD
@hpwolf123 If I remember correctly in the book, Marius saw her many times before she moved, hence the song "I Saw Him Once"... then go back to meet her again("The Robbery" when it is assumed they already meet there), and Marius not remember Eponine's name, every time she looking for him and She fall in love with him, That's why she takes him to the barricade so no one can have him and they die together But she wanted to die first
PD: I don't speak english, so I'm sorry if you can't understand
@NelenaLoveForever95 That's okay...I think I see what you're saying. :P I haven't read the book yet, unfortunately, so I don't know how much it differs from the musical. But you do make a good point.
"Liar! good evening dear inspector lovely evening my dear i know this man my friends his name's inspector jevert so don't believe a word he says 'cause none of it's true. this only goes to show what little people can do!"
Every time I watch this I think to myself that it's 1) sad and 2) Nick's best performance in the musical and maybe in his career from what I've seen. He actually has a new look on his face and it looks genuine. He also sounds nice in it too.
@Miss199713 i guess i agree, and i know what you mean. i also wish eponine and gavroche and the amis could have lived, but they can't, and then of course the thenardiers get to live...
in regards to Eponine's accents, i think Sam was realizing that growing up where E did then she would have different accents. there's her serious, cute-sy for Marius, and then other times
@LOVxxE Nick was fantastic! His face was so sad, and sweet! You are so mean to him, just because he's a jonas I'll bet! He was perfect and you can't deny it!
@Miss199713 but then there would be no point of the title "Les Misérables", Éponine is one of "the miserables" so therefore she has to die miserables (yet happy) w/the rich people happy in the end.
It's not that I don't like Éponine. She's my favorite character, after all, but this adds to the misery of the miserableness.
The preformance was great, but they need to act a little bit, because they just go infront of the microphone and sing, but he need to feel the character, I mean, in the whole musical no bodies act!!
Okay, so with Eponine singing that she doesn't feel any pain, I keep expecting her to pull a Monty Python on us and say "It's only a flesh wound." Maybe that crops up in a parody of Les Mis somewhere?
Nick Jonas holds everyone back... He's good but he doesn't deserve to be in the 25th anniversary. In 5 years maybe but don't say he's good for a pop singer because he shouldn't have been marius in the first place. Plus he can't act.
I think eponine should be slapped with dirt and covered with much more dirt! this performance is very good but she have to look pitiful to be a perfect eponine.
Detesting this praise towards "A Little Fall of Rain" in this performance -- This rendition of it has nothing on the 10th anniversary one... It is rather lacking in vocals and expression. Watch the 10th anniversary one and then you'll understand why this is lesser.
@2kool2die I agree. I still love this version, but Lea Salonga's and Michael Ball's was filled with more emotion. it was more sincere. Lea's and Michael's voices are better suited for the song also. I do love Eponine's voice, however Marius was just eh.
@2kool2die the staging was indeed awkward, but you cannot totally discredit this rendition. in fact simply the use of younger performers that fit the age of the characters themselves i believe makes it a superior rendition that adults portraying these roles could never do, simply because they are at about the same place in their lives as the characters they are portraying. they are far more enabled to tap into their emotions as actors. truly beautiful.
People who claim that Eponine is "way better than Cosette" forget that she was a total brat toward the abused Cosette as a little kid and the whole Marius situation thing could just be karma coming back to get her for that. They also misinterpret her death as a dying for true love, sacrificing herself for Marius move while (if you read the book you'll see) Eponine made sure Marius was at the barricades so that no one could have him and they'd die together, but she wanted to die first.
4:54, when he whispers her name. You can't hear it, just see his lips moving. He looks so genuinly upset. I don't care what people say about his acting abilities, this scene alone makes me respect him *so* much
It must be maddening for Alister (the one who sings 'she will not die in vain') to hear Nick Jonas sing this as Alister played Marius in the West End and did a better job of it!
@felicity1titanic a lot of the actors in this version have been marius in the past, me and my friend went to see this when it was beamed to the cinemas, and she was pointing out who had been marius (she knows all there is to know about musical theatre) he might have done a better job, but he's unheared of to most people, whereas having Nick Jonas as Maruis has given les mis a bigger fan base now (: and tbh hes not that bad, he was weak in the first half but in the second act he got A LOT better

While I think that the director of this musical couldn't have chosen a worse person to portray Marius, I don't blame Nick Jonas. If I were offered the role of Eponine, I would take it in a heartbeat (and I'm about the worst singer ever). Still, his voice is so weak and nasally compared to everybody else's voice. For stage musicals, one needs a clear, load voice, and Nick just doesn't have it.
This is so painful to listen to! The 10th anniv is just so much more. Nick Jonas sounds like a balloon losing air! There's no emotions at all, unlike that of Salonga and Ball. At 5:74 Jonas purposely broke Barks arm I think ("Let me play Eponine you bitch, I suit the role better!)
This was so beautiful. I wish Eponine and Marius were together in the play she was always there for him, always helping him in the p[lay he was barely with cossette :'(. Gavroche was AMAZING i would have loved to have seen Robert Madge act out the death scene to see how he would do that. I loved the way Nick did the death when he played him
I want Robert to be in a full version of Les Miserables so I can actually see him perform everything they cut. He could handle it! The absence of Little People and his death scene just breaks my heart.
i love robert madge hes awesome . Samantha is just Outstanding , go barksy :) i have respect for nick after this, he isnt the best but hes proved he aint just a stupid pop singer !
It's songs like this that makes me mad they didn't brodcast the actual show. There isn't enough emotion if they're just standing there singing. They don't even look at each other half of the time. BUT it is a verrry good song and from when they gave us, it was awesome.
@Parthenope93 I didn't think somone from a boy band would pall off the role of marius but i was worng Nick Jonas was a superb Marius, he has had experiance in roles like this before though i think so thats why he might have been called to do this, or it might be the more obvios reason that he is a member of the Jonas brothers and if he is playing a big part more people will come.
well whatever reason it was they made the right choice with Nick, and it was great to see Michael ball at the end. :)
amazing Gavroche!!! i love "Little People"...i love Gavroche!! i don't know why he don't say "so you better run for cover when the pup grows up"..i love that line!!
I love the concert version but it can get a little confusing as they cut scenes and the no one is acting as much as singing. If someone just died, you can't really tell, they just leave. Also, you can't exactly tell the setting. Are the dropped lights supposed to be the barricades?
@FluffehPika because she disguise herself as a boy to get into the barricade twice and when she delivers Marius's letter. Only Marius recognises her and tries to get her to stay away from the barricade. Its not until she's shot try to climb the barricade to get back to Marius (according to the musical) that the everyone inside the barricade realizes that she's a girl
@FluffehPika They Call Her A Boy Because Back Then During The Wars Women Would Dress Up Like Men So They Wouldnt Be Molested. Its For Their Own Safety.
It's not a big deal, but some events are off from the book ^_^; 'Ponine's not the first to die. Unless you count some unnamed fighter that might have died first, wouldn't it be Father Mabeauf(sp?) or Bahoral? Those characters don't really show up much in the musical, though.
And Eponine doesn't deliver a letter to Cosette. Cosette's the one who gives a letter to Eponine(though she doesn't know it's her) to give to Marius. Marius does send Cosette a letter, but it's by way of Gavroche.
What annoys me more than anything is that pained, constipated expression he pulls throughout the ENTIRE show, good god. At least everyone else is wonderful <3
What annoys me more than anything is that pained, constipated expression he pulls throughout the ENTIRE show, good god. At least everyone else is wonderful <3
a little fall of rain is beautiful with these two vocally wise i just wish the anniversaries actually had them act out the scenes. it seems so awkward and i would have loved to see their acting skills.
Man, Javert's Facial Expressions Are PRICELESS!!!!!!!!! I Love How Gavroche Said "LAIR!" Then Javert Ran Toward Him Like "Oh My Gosh, Shut Up Kid!" Epic LOL!
@meginmd That's actually a tell-tale sign of liar. =) When you lie, your nose itches (I don't remember the anatomical facts why... something like a fluid filling your nose.) So that was a very accurate touch, I'm glad he threw that in there. =)
oh my gosh she is dying and they're just standing there holding hands. she's supposed to die in his arms "i'll sleep in your embrace at last" they can still do that standing up. this song needs way more emotion
I just need to ask.... Why did Joly called out: "THERE'S A BOY CLIMBING UP THE BARRICADES!" when eponine is a girlll

@PrettyFly4AWytGurl
I think they are planning on doing a musical film version in lik 2013 or something...it is rumoured that this Valjean is the top pick
siriustalker 11 months ago
@siriustalker Oh yay :) I love this Valjean. And I'll admit. I started watching this musical when I found out Nick Jonas was Marius LOL

At 6:30, Nick/Marrius is about to cry. THAT is the mark of an artist. Greatness. I have so much more respect for Nick Jonas after this.
Parthenope93 11 months ago 115
@Parthenope93 I didn't think somone from a boy band would pall off the role of marius but i was worng Nick Jonas was a superb Marius, he has had experiance in roles like this before though i think so thats why he might have been called to do this, or it might be the more obvios reason that he is a member of the Jonas brothers and if he is playing a big part more people will come.
well whatever reason it was they made the right choice with Nick, and it was great to see Michael ball at the end. :)
matthewparsons1996 9 months ago
@Parthenope93 In that case, is it a good idea that the... singers who shall not be named, broke up?

amazing Gavroche!!! i love "Little People"...i love Gavroche!! i don't know why he don't say "so you better run for cover when the pup grows up"..i love that line!!
NelenaLoveForever95 11 months ago
I love the concert version but it can get a little confusing as they cut scenes and the no one is acting as much as singing. If someone just died, you can't really tell, they just leave. Also, you can't exactly tell the setting. Are the dropped lights supposed to be the barricades?
utmythaomy199591895 11 months ago
Why do they always call Eponine a boy in the play? I'm so confused.
FluffehPika 11 months ago
@FluffehPika because she disguise herself as a boy to get into the barricade twice and when she delivers Marius's letter. Only Marius recognises her and tries to get her to stay away from the barricade. Its not until she's shot try to climb the barricade to get back to Marius (according to the musical) that the everyone inside the barricade realizes that she's a girl
LadyEaglestar18 11 months ago

@meginmd That's actually a tell-tale sign of liar. =) When you lie, your nose itches (I don't remember the anatomical facts why... something like a fluid filling your nose.) So that was a very accurate touch, I'm glad he threw that in there. =)

@meginmd Yes, That Is Funny. As Well That Marius Actually Runs In Front Of Him To Stop Javert From Killing Gavroche.

@iheartnacystories Yeah. She climbs over the barricade to get back to Marius, and as she does she's shot by the soldiers.
