The final answer was questionable, especially since Jones is a common last name. Just one decision from the judges, and Ken Jennings would have been gone on the first day.
That Final Jeopardy clue would be null and void today, since M. Jones was busted for doping. Yeah, she still won those medals, but as far as the IoC is concerned now, Marion Jones never ran in Sydney.
There was a bit of controversy on this FJ! at the time this first aired, as they could have dinged Ken on the be more specific with the last name, as there were/are other olympians named Jones/ This is I believe as slim a lead as Ken ever had going into FJ!. Jerry Harvey was apparently the oldest J! champion the show ever had. Word was he was about 80 at the time, but he seems maybe in his 60s here.
@zachhoran Did Julia question it? I wonder why they didn't ask him to be more specific as it was final Jeopardy? It would be interesting to know how they judge this. Why the other and not this one? Thanks for the tidbit. I think there was something I watched instead of Jeopardy but then heard of his winning streak. I can't remember how many he was on but I wondered if they started giving him a suite at the hotel he was staying at? Wondered if he had to pack everything each day in case. ha
Jerry stop clearing you gosh dang throat

Just think, there's some alternate universe where Julia Lazarus is a game show legend, and Ken's still stuck in some windowless cubicle in Utah.

Boy it would suck to be Julia. You get one chance in your life, and you start against Jennings. And you give him a total run for the money.

@trojanowl
What if she was almost as good as Ken, and could have gone on a few dozen-game streak?
