I remember it like it was yesterday and being an eleven year old shark lover in 1987 I kept the picture of it on the front cover of the Sun newspaper and I still have it to this day.

I lived in Hervey Bay and the guy that caught the shark is called Vic Hislop, I have met him when he first came to the bay back in the early 1990s. He built the shark show down on the esplanard in Urangan OK. Also the shark was originally caught in South Australia in the mid 1980s were he did most of his hunting, and it was relocated to the bay when he moved there.

This shark was caught in 1986 or 87, near Cowes off Phillip Island in Victoria Australia. It was 7 metres long and weighed nearly 2 tonnes. This was before sharks were protected in Australia so imagine whats out there now in abundance.

I have worked for Years on trawlers in Shark Bay Western Australia and believe me it lives up to it's home! I've never seen a Great White in the Bay but the Tiger Sharks there OMG Every night after dropping anchor we'd have up to and sometimes over 10-12 tigers from 10ft up to roughly 18ft. I tell You Respect them or they'll chew You up and Sh!t You out, We've had 4 Man Over Boards in the last 10years and unless they are rescued immediately no one expects to find them ever again.
